Each C5-HOMI balun has the following connections: a gold-plated HOMI port for connectionto and from an HOMI signal cable; two gold-plated RJ-45 CAT-5 connection ports fortransmission from the Transmitter balun to the Receiver balun; and a barrel-style powerconnection for use with the power supply that comes with the Transmitter balun.

Niles C5-HOMI baluns allow HOMI-equipped devices such as OVO players and satellitereceivers to be located at an extended distance from the system. Connecting one of thesedevices with conventional HOMI cabling is both expensive and prone to signal degradation.By using a pair of HOM! baluns and two runs of CAT-5 or CAT-6, the problem is inexpensivelysolved without signal loss or the introduction of noise. Additionally, in today's retrofit marketan installer cannot always easily run a wire from point Ato point B, but there may be unusedtwisted pair cabling in many homes. By using a pair of HOMI baluns with these unused ,cables,an installer can complete a job that he otherwise could not.

INTRODUCTION

C5-HOMI baluns enable the system installer to send an HOMI signal over two CAT-5 or CAT-6cables. Typically, sending an HOMI signal requires high quality interconnect cables, which canbe expensive to run over long distances. But Niles HOMI baluns allow the installer to sendHOMI signals over cost-effective and easy-to-run CAT-5 or CAT-6 cabling.

-H al 0 si of two ty es of modules: Transmitter and Receiver. Yo must use aTransmitter and a Receiver to complete a C5-HOMI system. There are two form factors thatprovide an application solution for each type of module: awall-mount version and a chassisstyle version (See Figure 1). Any combination of the form factors can be used when creatinga system as long as one Transmitter and one Receiver are used. The Transmitter module (bothwall-mount and chassis) comes with the power supply that powers both the Transmitter andReceiver modules in a system. As a convenience, this power supply can be plugged into eitherthe Transmitter module or Receiver module to power the C5-HOMI system.

INSTALLATION LIMITED WARRANTY

NOTE: WALL-MOUNT AND CHASSIS BALUNS CAN BE MIXED AND MATCHED, AS LONG AS ONE IS ARECEIVER AND THE OTHER ATRANSMITIER.

1. Turn off all power to equipment prior to installation.

2. Terminate all cables as straight-through T-568A terminations.

3. Make all CAT-5 connections using the components shown in Figure 2. Make sure that the CAT-5cable plugged into the CAT-5 #1 port of the Transmitter Balun is connected to the correspondingCAT-5 #1 port on the Receiver balun and do the same for the CAT-5 #2 ports.

NOTE: CAT-5 CABLE MUST BE SAME LENGTH.

4. Do not share any other signals on the CAT-5 cable other than the signals being extended by theCAT-5 baluns.

5. Using the appropriate HDMI interconnect cables, connect both the source and the destinationequipment to the appropriate HDMI baluns.

6. Connect the power supply supplied with the Transmitter module to the power port of theTransmitter or Receiver module, and make sure that the green LEOs light up on both theTransmitter and Receiver Module. Wall-mount and chassis baluns can be mixed and matched, aslong as one is a Receiver and the other aTransmitter.

7. Once all connections have been made, you may power on the equipment again.

Afactory Return Authorization Number will besent to you. DO NOT RETURN ANY UNIT WITHOUT FIRST RECEIVING WRITTEN AUTHORIZATIONAND SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS FROM NILES.

If the above conditions are met, the purchaser's sole remedy shall be to i"eturn the product to NILES,in which case NILES will repair or replace, at its sole option, the defective product without chargefor parts or labor.
