3.2 Installing SAP Notes Management Designer

The following sections describe the installation activities for SAP Notes Management Designer on the client:

● Prerequisites [page 8]● Installation Process [page 9]● Parallel Installation of Office 2003/2007 [page 9]● Windows Regional Settings [page 10]

3.2.1 Prerequisites

Before installing the SAP Notes Management Designer, the following prerequisites must be fulfilled:

● Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher, Microsoft Windows Vista, or Microsoft Windows 7 is installed.● To use the full range of functions within SAP Notes Management Designer, Microsoft Office Excel 2007,

Microsoft Excel 2010 or Microsoft Excel 2013 is installed includig the latest patches and updates provided by Microsoft.

● Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is installed.● Your user is assigned to the standard user group Administrator, or has comparable rights.● You have write authorization for the installation directory; this is required to change the selects list during

installation.

NoteIf you use SAP Notes Management Designer in a Citrix environment, the user needs to have permission to change the following entry in the Windows database registry after calling the application:

If this is not possible due to restrictions in the Citrix configuration, the directory, which is used for storing selects lists (see above) must be reselected each time you start the SAP Notes Management Designer before you can process forms and reports. In this case, always store the selects list in a directory, which can always be used to store data, even if the current Citrix session has been closed.

3.2.2 Installation Process

To install SAP Notes Management Designer, proceed as follows:

1. Execute the installation file. An installation wizard opens and leads you through the installation steps.

NoteYou can terminate the installation process any time by choosing Cancel. In this case, no changes will be made to the target system. You can start the installation again at a later time by executing the installation file again.

2. In the first step, the installation wizard tells you, which version of SAP Notes Management Designer will be installed. To confirm the installation of this version, choose Next.If you have already installed a previous version of SAP Notes Management Designer, a dialog box informs you about the previous version and the new version that is to be installed. To confirm the installation, choose Yes. To cancel the installation, choose No. If you install a new version, the system retains all user-specific data.

3. Define the installation path. To change the predefined installation path, choose Browse and select the respective installation directory. To confirm your selection, choose Next.

4. The system asks you to confirm the installation. When you choose Next, the system installs SAP Notes Management Designer. It stores the files in the given directory, writes the information into the Windows database registry, and creates an entry in the Windows start menu.

5. In the last step, the installation wizard displays the installation progress and the installation step that is currently performed. After the successful installation, a dialog box informs you whether the installation has been successful.

6. To complete the installation process, choose Finish.

3.2.3 Parallel Installation of Office 2003/2007

SAP Notes Management Designer is an Add-In for Microsoft Office Excel 2007. If you want to use Microsoft Office 2003 and Microsoft Office 2007 in parallel, using Microsoft Office 2003 as your default application, perform the following configuration steps:

1. Iinstall Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (or the entire Office suite if required) alongside your existing Office 2003 on the target system. When installing Microsoft Office 2007, it is essential to specify a directory path that is different from that of your existing Office version. Apart from that, proceed as usual.

2. If Microsoft Office Excel 2007 was successfully installed in parallel, launch Microsoft Excel 2003 and wait for the configuration to finish and for the program to start. Select the option Detect and Repair from the menu, and perform this function with your required settings. Microsoft Excel 2003 is then once again registered as your standard application.

3. In the installation directory for SAP Notes Management Designer, find and open the file cunic Form Starter.config. Within the file itself, specify the file path for Excel 2007 between <path> and </path> (e.g. C:\Programs\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE).

4. Display the entry for SAP Notes Management Designer in the Start Menu, and right-click it to choose Properties. Under Shortcut and Start in:, enter the installation directory of the SAP Notes Management Designer (see above, e.g. C:\Program Files\SAP BusinessObjects\Notes Management\).

Installation GuideInstallation P U B L I C 9

Page 10: Installation Guide - help.sap.com

You can also create the Starter.config file manually and copy it into the directory as a text file. It that case, it must look as follows:

<config> <path>C:\Programs\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE</path></config>

You have to change this path to match the one you require in your system.

3.2.4 Windows Regional Settings

A known error in Microsoft Office Excel 2007 leads to problems when executing automated processes in Excel 2007. Due to this error, it is possible that SAP Notes Management Designer can, at times, not be executed properly if the regional language settings in Windows do not match the Office 2007 language version.

To determine the language version of the Microsoft Office Excel 2007 application installed on the affected client P, open Control Panel Software and check the Office 2007 entry to see if there are any naming extensions included, which indicate a particular language version. If such information is not available, check the language, in which the application texts within Microsoft Office Excel 2007 are displayed.

You can view and modify the Windows regional settings in the Control Panel by choosing Regional and Language Options Regional Options Standards and Formats .

If you are unable to use SAP Notes Management Designer due to the reasons described here, change the regional language setting in Windows so that it matches the language version of Excel 2007.
