your H unter fan dealer can direct youto a licensed installer or electrician.

damage, do not use a solid-state speed control withthis fan. Use only Hunterspeed controls.

GATHERING THE TOOLS

You w ill need the follow ing tools for

installing the fan:• Electric drill w ith 9/64" bit

• Standard screw driver

• Phillips-head screw driver

STEP 1 - GETTING READY PREPARING THE FAN SITE

The location of a ceiling fan and how

the fan is attached to the buildingstructure are essential for reliableoperation, m axim um efficiency, andenergy savings. For this reason, w ehave included a separate booklet —“G uide to C hoosing and Preparinga C eiling Fan Site”— to help youselect the best location for your fan.The booklet also provides inform a-

tion to ensure your fan support andelectric outlet box m eet U L-approvedsafety codes for ceiling fans.

The instructions in this installationm anual assum e that you have used“G uide to C hoosing and Preparinga C eiling Fan Site”to pick the fanlocation and m ake certain the proper

fan support and outlet box are in-stalled.

CHECKING YOUR FAN PARTS

C arefully unpack your fan to avoid

dam age to the fan parts. C heck forany shipping dam age to the m otoror fan blades. If one of the fan bladesw as dam aged in shipm ent, return allthe blades for replacem ent.

Hint: If you are installing m ore thanone fan, keep the fan bladesin sets, as they w ere shipped.

The fan includes a separate diagramof the screw s and other sm all partsneeded for the fan. Keep this dia-gram handy for identifying parts dur-ing installation; the diagram indicatesthe step in w hich each part is used.

INSTALLER’S CHOICE®

This patented 3-position m ountingsystem provides you m axim um instal-lation flexibility and ease. You can

install your H unter fan in one of threew ays. The steps in this m anual in-clude specific instructions for the fanm ounting m ethod of your choice. Fora ceiling 8 feet or higher, standardm ounting is recom m ended.

Flush Mounting (Figure 1a) fitsclose to the ceiling, for low ceilingsless than 8 feet high.

Standard Mounting (Figure 1b)

hangs from the ceiling by a connec-tor pipe (included), for ceilings 8 feetor higher. For ceilings higher thaneight feet, you can purchase H unterextension rods. A ll H unter fans usesturdy 3/4" diam eter pipe to assurestab ility and w obble-free perfor-m ance.

Angle Mounting (Figure 1c) hangsfrom a vaulted or angled ceiling.

STEP 2 - INSTALLING THE CEILING PLATE4. A lign the slotted holes in the ceil-

ing plate w ith the pilot holes in

the w ood supp ort structure.Note: The isolation pads shouldbe flush against the ceiling.

1. D rill tw o pilot holes into the w oodsupport structure through the

outerm ost holes on the outletbox. The pilot holes should be9/64" in diam eter by 2 3/4" indepth.

2. Bring the lead w ires around thesides of the ceiling plate. Thread-ing the lead w ires through thehole in the m iddle m ay causeproblem s w hen installing the re-

m ote and trying to close thecanopy.

3. Your fan com es w ith tw o neo-prene noise isolators. Position theisolators betw een the ceiling plateand ceiling by inserting the raisedareas on each isolator into theholes in the ceiling plate. Refer toFigure 2a.

stalled in a standard m ounting posi-tion.

Included w ith the fan are tw o pipes:one 3" long pipe/ball assem bly forstandard m ounting on 8' ceilings andone 12" long pipe for 9' ceilings andhigher. See Figure 3a.

If you are going to install the fan us-ing the standard m ounting, go toSTEP 4 - A SSEM BLIN G THE FA N .

If you are going to install the fan us-ing the 12" long pipe for 9' ceilingsor higher, com plete the steps below .

1. Locate the 3" pipe/ball assem bly.

2. Rem ove the positioning screwfrom the top of the ball.

8. Insert the pin into the tw o holesin the 12" pipe so that the pin isplaced evenly in the hole.

9. Insert the threaded end of the

pipe into the flat side of the ball.

10.A lign the cutouts in the ball w iththe pin and the ground screw as-sem bly.

11.Slide the ball up the pipe until ithits the pin.

12.Insert and tighten the positioningscrew into the ball so that the

head of the screw is tight on theend of the pipe.

NOTE: M ake sure that the ballis positioned so that it is level orstraight.

CAUTION

Do not overtighten the posi-tioning screw as it may causethe ball to seat improperly, re-sulting in fan wobble and thefan hanging crookedly.

WARNING

• Failure to complete thesteps above properly couldresult in the fan falling.

7. Insert and tighten the groundscrew /leadw ire assem bly into thesm all screw hole on one end ofthe 12" pipe.

CAUTION

The pipe has a special coatingon the threads. Do not remove

this coating; the coating pre-vents the pipe from unscrew-ing. Once assembled, do notremove the pipe.

2. Slide the dip sw itches to the de-sired on/off position using a ball-point pen or sm all-head screw -driver. Rem em ber the on/off po-sition of the sw itches for usew hen setting up the receiver.

Note: Be sure to change the fac-tory default sw itch settings toyour ow n unique code.

3. Install a 9 volt battery (not in-cluded). Refer to Figure 6a onpage 15.

Note: To prevent dam age to thetransm itter, rem ove the batteryif it is not used for long periodsof tim e.

4. Replace the battery cover on thetransm itter.

5. M ount the rem ote holder usingthe tw o screw s provided w ith the

rem ote kit. Slide out center pieceon the holder to see screw holes.

Replace center piece after m ount-ing to w all. Refer to Figure 6b.

6. The transm itter can be placed onthe rem ote holder for conve-

nience or safe-keeping.

INSTALLING THE RECEIVER

1. Slide the dip sw itches to the sam eon/off position as the transm itterusing a ball-point pen or sm all-

head screw driver. Refer to Figure6c.

2. M ake w iring connections usingthe w ire nuts supplied. To con-nect the w ires, place bare m etalleads together. Place a w ire nutover the intertw ined length ofw ire and tw ist clockw ise untiltight as show n. Refer to Figure6d.

Sub-steps 1 and 2 apply to Flush,Standard, and A ngle m ounting. Sub-step 3 applies to Standard and A nglem ounting only.

1. Sw ing the fan up so as to alignthe canopy screw holes w ith them ounting holes on the ceilingplate. Refer to Figure 8a.

2. Install and tighten the tw o #10-32 x 1/2" m ounting screw s.

3. For Standard and AngleMounting Only: In addition tosub-steps 1 and 2, lift the fanhousing tow ards the ceiling androtate the fan until each canopytab engages a groove in thehanger ball as show n in Figure 8b.

Note: If the tabs are already en-gaged, do not rotate.

H unter fans use several styles of fanblade irons (brackets that hold theblade to the fan).

1. Your fan m ay include blade grom -m ets (see Parts List). If your fanhas grom m ets, insert them byhand into the holes as show n inFigure 9a.

2. A ttach each blade to blade ironusing three blade assem bly screw sas show n in Figure 9b. Som e fans

and attach lightly to the fan. In-sert the second blade m ountingscrew , then securely tighten bothm ounting screw s.

CAUTION

Make sure the upper switch

housing is securely attached tothe switch housing mountingplate. Failure to properly at-tach and tighten all three hous-ing assembly screws could re-sult in the switch housing andlight fixture falling.

The sw itch housing is m ade up oftw o sections: the upper sw itch hous-ing, and the low er sw itch housing.

ATTACHING THE UPPER SWITCHHOUSING

1. Partially install tw o #6-32 x 3/8"housing assem bly screw s into thesw itch housing m ounting plate asshow n in Figure 10a.

2. Feed the upper plug connectorthrough the center opening of theupper sw itch housing. See Figure

10a.

3. A lign the keyhole slots in the up-per sw itch housing w ith the hous-ing assem bly screw s installed insub-step 1.

4. Turn the upper sw itch housingcounterclockw ise until the hous-ing assem bly screw s are firm ly

situated in the narrow end of thekeyhole slots as show n in Figure10b. Install the one rem aining #6-32 x 3/8" housing assem bly screwinto the third hole in the uppersw itch housing. Tighten all threescrew s firm ly.

ATTACHING THE LOWERSWITCH HOUSING

Your hunter fan includes one of tw olow er sw itch housings. Both low er

sw itch housings are show n in Figures10c and 10d. The type of low ersw itch housing you have depends onw hether your fan includes a light fix-ture, and if so, w hat type of light fix-ture it is. U se table 10-1 to assist you.

If your fan has a low er sw itch hous-ing as show n in Figure 10c, and youA RE installing an accessory light kit

or single-globe light fixture includedw ith your fan , go directly to STEP11 - IN STA LLIN G LIG H T FIX TU RE.

If your fan has a low er sw itch hous-ing as show n in Figure 10c and youA RE N O T installing a light fixture, orif your fan has a low er sw itch hous-ing as show n in Figure 10d, com -

plete the follow ing steps:

1. C onnect the upper plug connec-tor from the m otor to the low erplug connector in the low ersw itch housing assem bly. See Fig-ure 10e.

Note: Both plug connectors arepolarized and w ill only fit together

one w ay. M ake sure that bothconnectors are properly alignedbefore connecting them together.Incorrect connection could causeim proper operation and dam ageto the product.

STEP 11 - INSTALLING LIGHT FIXTUREYour fan m ay include a light fixture.Inform ation for w iring and installingall included H unter light fixtures fol-

Note: If you purchased a fan w ith-out a light fixture, you m ay purchasean accessory light kit separately. Forbest perform ance and beauty, useonly H unter-brand light kits, Type A -Z. H unter light kits are designed,tested, and U L approved for all

H unter fans, and are available atm ost H unter dealers. To install thelight kit, follow the instructions in-cluded w ith the kit.

If you are not installing a light fix-ture, turn to O PERA TIN G Y O U RH U N TER FA N for additional instruc-tions.

WARNING

• To avoid possible electrical

shock, before installinglight fixtures, disconnectpower by turning off thecircuit breakers both to theoutlet box and to its asso-ciated wall switch location.If you cannot lock the cir-cuit breakers in the off po-sition, securely fasten aprominent warning device,

such as a tag, to the servicepanel.

• Connect house wiring tothe fan before attachingthe light fixture to the fan.

• All wiring must be in accor-dance with national and lo-cal electrical codes andANSI/NFPA 70. If you are

unfamiliar with wiring, youshould use a qualified elec-trician.

INSTALLING INCLUDED ACCES-SORY LIGHT KIT

1. Rem ove the p lug and sw itchho using caps from the low ersw itch housing. Refer to Figure11a.

Note: D o not discard the caps.You w ill need this if you rem ovethe light fixture in the future.

2. Locate the w hite w ire and theblack w ire com ing from the lightfixture.

3. Thread the tw o w ires from thelight fixture through the centerhole in the low er sw itch housing.Be sure to thread the black w irew ith the larger connector headthrough first and then thread thew hite w ire w ith the sm aller con-

nector head through.

the w ires. M aking sure the lightfixture m ounting screw holes arealigned; hold the light fixture andtighten the nut on the inside ofthe low er sw itch housing. Insert

and tighten the tw o #6-32 sem slight fixture m ounting screw s.

5. Refer to Figure 11b. Locate theblack/w hite w ire and the w hitew ire in the fan sw itch housingthat have connectors attached.Pull the dum m y term inals out ofboth connectors. C onnect the

4. Screw the fixture into the low ersw itch housing. Th read the

lockw asher and nut provided over

w ire to the w hite w ire of the lightkit.

6. C onnect the upper plug connec-tor from the m otor to the low erplug co nnector in the low ersw itch housing assem bly. See Fig-ure 10e on page 25.

CAUTION

Be sure no bare wire or wirestrands are visible after mak-ing connections.

1. Place globe over thread edlam pholder in cup. Install andhand tighten threaded lockingring on lam pholder as show n inFigures 11c and 11d.

To install the light kit, follow the in-structions included w ith the kit for

w iring, m ounting, and assem bly. A f-ter com pleting the light kit installa-tion, follow sub-steps 1 and 2 onpage 23 to reattach the low er sw itchhousing.

INSTALLING SINGLE-GLOBEFIXTURE BULB AND GLOBE

Refer to Figure 11e.

1. Install light bulbs.

2. Insert the globe around the bulband into the fixture. Install andtighten thum bscrew s m anually.D o not overtighten.

INSTALLING INTEGRATED MULTI-LIGHT FIXTURE BULBS ANDGLOBES

Refer to Figure 11f.

1. Place silencer band around theneck of each globe.

2. Insert globe in cup.

3. Install and tighten thum bscrew sm anually. D o not overtighten.

4. Install bulbs.

1. Turn on electrical pow er to thefan.

2. The pull chain controls pow er tothe fan. The chain has four set-tings in sequence: H igh, M edium ,Low and O ff.

•Pull the chain slow ly to changesettings.

•Release slow ly to prevent thechain from recoiling into the

blades.

OPERATING YOUR HUNTER FANWITH A REMOTE

Once receiver is installed and

power is turned back on, DONOT pull the fan or light chainswhile power is connected.

WARNING

Refer to steps 1, 3, and 4 in the O P-ERATIN G YO U R HU N TER FA NW ITHO U T A REM O TE. U se thefollow ing steps to operate yourrem ote.

1. Turn O N the w all sw itch. The lightw ill turn O N at m axim um bright-ness.

2. Light Operation:

Press and quickly release the lightbutton on the hand held rem oteto turn the light O FF or O N .

Press and hold the light button for

m ore than 0.7 second to dim or

brighten the light. Release thelight button w hen the desiredlight level is reached. The lightdim m er range is 20% to 100% .The Light key has auto resum e,

3. Fan Operation:

Press the fan button to turn O Nthe ceiling fan at H igh speed.Press again to change the speedto M edium , then again to Low ,

and then again to turn the fanO FF. Refer to Figure 12c.

C aring for finishes: For cleaning, asoft brush or lint-free cloth shouldbe used to prevent scratching the fin-

ish. A vaccuum cleaner brush nozzlecan rem ove heavier dust. Surfacesm udges or an accum ulation of dirtand dust can easily be rem oved byusing a m ild detergent and a slightlydam pened cloth. A n artistic agentm ay be used, but never use abrasivecleaning agents as they w ill dam agethe finish.
