4.1 General

ATTENTION

(see chapter “Safety information anddangers due to non-compliance”)

The unit may only be installed by skilled per-sonnel.

The chapter on “Intended use” must alwaysbe observed!

The pipes must be able to safely support thedomestic water station.

Otherwise mechanical damage or fractures/bursts can occur in the pipes. This can resultin major water damage. People close to thedomestic water station are exposed to ahealth risk due to the large quantities of wa-ter released. Therefore, if necessary, thepipes must be additionally fixed or support-ed.

For convenient operation and maintenanceit is absolutely necessary to ensure the giv-en spacings (see chapter “Discharging thebackwashing water”).

A space of at least 200 mm should be main-tained above and below the domestic waterstation. These distances are necessary tobe able to properly carry out the backwash-ing (see chapter “Backwashing”).

JUDO JUK

ation

4.1.1 Requirements for the place of installation

The room where the unit is installed mustbe dry and frost free!

Unauthorised persons must not have ac-cess to the domestic water station!

ATTENTION

(see chapter “Safety information anddangers due to non-compliance”)

– The ambient temperature must not ex-ceed 30 °C (86 °F)! At higher tempera-tures or direct sun radiation the materialcan be damaged and the filter hood caneven break.

– In order to be able to safely dischargethe wastewater in operation and in caseof any defects that occur in the system, precise compliance with the details giv-en in the “Installation” chapter is neces-sary!

– If the wastewater (backwashing) cannotbe safely and completely discharged, the house and installations can be dam-aged by water.

– A shut-off valve must be installed up-stream and downsteam of the domesticwater station with a bypass to allow con-tinued water supply when the domesticwater station is out of service! This ena-bles the water supply to the domesticwater station to be interrupted during in-stallation, servicing/maintenance, re-pairs and in case of malfunctions. Floodsand serious water damage to house in-stallations can therefore be avoided.

– The unit can be installed in all standarddrinking water pipes.

– It is not permitted to install the domesticwater station upstream of the water me-ter!

Install

4.1.2 Installed position

ATTENTION

(see chapter “Safety information anddangers due to non-compliance”)

Always install the domestic water station ina vertical position (± 5°)!

Failure to observe this can cause uncon-trolled backwashing water to escape andcan result in water damage.

4.1.3 Mounting the built-in rotary flange

Install using the supplied built-in rotaryflange. The built-in rotary flange is used as aconnecting element between the pipe andthe domestic water station.

It is suitable for both horizontal and verticalpipes.

The built-in rotary flange must be in-stalled in the direction of flow. This ismarked by a cast in arrow.

Failure to comply with this means the do-mestic water station cannot work.

ATTENTION

(see chapter “Safety information anddangers due to non-compliance”)

The flange surface of the built-in rotaryflange must be in a vertical position! Thebuilt-in rotary flange must be fitted so thatmechanical stresses cannot occur! Other-wise mechanical damage can result in thebuilt-in rotary flange. Otherwise mechanicaldamage can result, the pipe may burst or thebuilt-in rotary flange can break. This can re-sult in major water damage.

In this case, people close to the domesticwater station are exposed to a health riskdue to the large quantities of water.

8 JUDO JUK

ation

Therefore, during installation, ensure that nolarge forces act on the pipe, built-in rotaryflange and domestic water station.

4.1.4 Installing the domestic water station

The built-in rotary flange for the domesticwater station is supplied with bayonet drillholes. The necessary seals and screws forthis domestic water station have alreadybeen mounted.

Do not unscrew the screws!

– Insert the four flange screws in the bay-onet drill holes on the built-in rotaryflange (see fig. 3 I).

– Turn the domestic water station in aclockwise direction as far as it will go(see fig. 3 II).

– Tighten the four flange screws.

4.2 Discharging thebackwashing water

ATTENTION

(see chapter “Safety information anddangers due to non-compliance”)

For the backwashing water a wastewaterconnection (for example a floor drainage) inaccordance with DIN 1986 must be in place. If there is no wastewater connection an ap-propriately sized bucket can be used.

The dimensioning depends on conditions onsite (e.g. wastewater pipe gradient, numberof pipe bends, length of the wastewaterpipe, etc.). The dimensioning must at leastallow all the wastewater to be discharged atthe same time. If it is not possible to providea wastewater connection directly beneaththe domestic water station, the flushing wa-ter can be fed several metres to the nextwastewater connection, either through ahose or a pipe to be fitted to the flushing wa-ter valve. This pipe must have the same di-mension as the flushing water valve.

In all options, a free discharge must beensured in accordance with DIN EN 1717.

The following points must be noted if a buck-et is used for backwashing:

– If the mains pressure is high, water cansplash out of the bucket. In this case, damage to property close to the domes-tic water station is possible.

– When the bucket is half-filled, the back-washing process must be stopped. Oth-erwise it is possible for the bucket tooverflow. Therefore the bucket must beadequately dimensioned and the back-washing should be carried out quickly.

(see chapter “Safety information anddangers due to non-compliance”)

Always observe the chapter on “Intendeduse”!

5.1 Commissioning

Before starting up (initial putting into serviceor startup after maintenance work), fill thedomestic water station with water and vent!

– To this end, after installation the domes-tic water station is filled with water byopening the upstream shut-off valve.

– The domestic water station is now at thesame pressure as the water system.

– The enclosed air must then be immedi-ately removed from the domestic waterstation in order to avoid damage to theinstallation caused by pressure surges-The domestic water station is vented bymeans of backwashing (see chapter“Discharging the backwashing water”).

– After backwashing and venting the do-mestic water station is ready for use.

The filter contains a silver-plated suctionpipe unit located at the sieve insert of theprotective filter for an optimum prophylacticgerm protection. If the prophylactic germprotection shall remain durably, the suctionpipe unit has to be replaced after one yearby trained personal. The function of the filter, however, is unlimited.

5.4 Backwashing

The domestic water station must be back-washed (= cleaned) at the specified cyclesin order to remove the filtered dirt from thefine filter screen.

A complete backwashing process is carriedout by turning the handwheel through a fullturn. At the same time the handwheel en-sures free discharge.

When the handwheel is rotated in any direc-tion three suction pipes rotate around thefine filter screen.

At the same time a patented ceramic flush-ing valve on the underside of the domesticwater station opens so that the backwashingwater can flow out. The filtered water flowsfrom the inside outwards through the screeninto the suction pipe, taking the adheringparticles with it. During this time filteredwater flows out. The fine filter screen iscleaned. At the same time the inside of thetransparent filter cover is cleaned togetherwith the wiper lips of the suction pipe.

Immediately continue turning the handwheeluntil it audibly locks into place.

All sizes of domestic water stationare backwashed with filtered water. The supply of filtered water to thedomestic water station is main-tained throughout the backwashingprocess. Dirty water cannot get in-to the clean water side duringbackwashing.

JUDO JUK

tion

The ceramic flushing valve thus closesagain and the backwashing process is com-pleted.

This backwashing process can be repeatedif necessary.

ATTENTION

(see chapter “Safety information anddangers due to non-compliance”)

This backwashing process must be carriedout until the audible locking into place of thehandwheel. If the locking process is discon-tinued before the audible locking into placethe ceramic flushing valve is not fully closed.

Water permanently escapes as a result.Apart from high water consumption, this canalso cause water damage, especially if thebackwashing water is not discharged as de-scribed in the chapter “Discharging thebackwashing water”.

5.4.1 Backwashing interval

The domestic water station must be back-washed:

– Every six months at the latest.

– If the water pressure falls.

– If the domestic water station is visiblydirty.

The degree of pollution as well asthe cleaning off operation can bewatched from outside.

There is a display button attachedto the domestic water station. Itcan be slid along the months scale. This enables the backwashing in-terval to be monitored.

O-LongLife 13

Page 14: Installation and operating instructions JUDO JUKO-LongLife

Opera

ATTENTION

(see chapter “Safety information anddangers due to non-compliance”)

If the interval until the next backwashing islonger than six months, the particles on thefilter screen can stick or a large filter pres-sure resistance can result.

Unauthorized persons must not operate thedomestic water station! Persons who oper-ate the domestic water station must observethe operating instructions. Failure to ob-serve these instructions can result in dam-age to property and personal injuries.

Experience shows that increased dirt is de-posited during the initial running period. Ifso, the unit has to be flushed more oftenthan usual.

Failure to flush in good time can cause dam-age to the screen. Larger quantities of fil-tered particles can deform the screen and asan extreme incident cause the tearing of thesieve. As a result a filter function is not anylonger ensured. In addition, larger quantitiesof dirt can cause mechanical impairmentconcerning the backwashing function.

14 JUDO JUK

tion

5.5 Modifications / changes / spare parts

ATTENTION

(see chapter “Safety information anddangers due to non-compliance”)

Only original spare parts are to be used!

Arbitrary modifications and changes areprohibited for safety reasons! They can im-pair the function of the domestic water sta-tion, lead to leaks and as an extreme inci-dent they can lead to the bursting of thedomestic water station.

The imprinted test marks are only valid iforiginal spare parts are used.

5.5.1 Servicing / Repair

Before carrying out any work on the domes-tic water station, which extends beyond pureoperational control, the domestic water sta-tion must be depressurised! Failure to ob-serve this can lead to an uncontrolled es-cape of water and therefore lead to waterdamage in the building. Strictly comply withthe instructions given in the “Installation”and “Maintenance” chapters.

5.6 Stoppages

ATTENTION

(see chapter “Safety information anddangers due to non-compliance”)

If a domestic water station has to be re-moved from the flange or unscrewed, thechapter "Intended use" must always be ob-served!

– Protect the flange surfaces from dam-age! Damaged flange surfaces cannotclose tight any longer. As a result, es-caping water can damage the buildingand installations.

– Ensure that no dirt can get into the do-mestic water station! This dirt can get in-

O-LongLife

Page 15: Installation and operating instructions JUDO JUKO-LongLife

Fau

to contact with and be discharged intothe drinking water when the domesticwater station is switched back on. Thehealth of people who drink dirty water isat risk.

– Store the domestic water station in frost-free conditions! Frost can cause any wa-ter contained in the domestic water sta-tion’s voids to freeze and thus cause me-chanical damage to the domestic waterstation so that it leaks at operating pres-sure or can burst. Leaking water cancause major damage to the building. Inaddition, people near the domestic waterstation can be injured by breaking off fil-ter parts.

– When restarting the domestic water sta-tion, follow the instructions for a new do-mestic water station.

6. Faults

The opening of the units and the replace-ment of the water pressure charged partsmay only be effected by authorized per-sonal in order the ensure the unit securi-ty and its tightness.

Help with faults:

Fault Cause Remedy

Backwashing water con-tinues running.

Ceramic flushing valve notfully closed.

Repeat the backwashing andthen turn the handwheel until itlocks into place!

Dirt in the ceramic flushingvalve.

Water flow rate falls. Screen is blocked. Carry out backwashing!

7. Maintenance

ATTENTION

(see chapter “Safety information anddangers due to non-compliance”)

Always observe the chapter on “Intendeduse”!

7.1 Cleaning

ATTENTION

(see chapter “Safety information anddangers due to non-compliance”)

Use only clear, drinking water concern-ing the cleaning of the housing and thetransparent filter hood.

Domestic all-purpose cleaners and glasscleaners can contain up to 25 % solvents oralcohol (spirits).

These substances can chemically attack theplastic parts, which can lead to brittlenessright up to [brittle] fractures.

These kinds of cleaners must thereforenot be used.

ance

8. Warranty and services

In order to comply with the legal warrantyclaim, it is necessary that backwashingtakes place according to the existing operat-ing conditions (see chapter 5.4.1).DIN EN 13441-1 specifies that backwashingmust take place at least every six months. However, JUDO recommends to carry outbackwashing every two months!

Further, an annual check of the setdischarge pressure at the pressure gauge(visual check) when no water is flowing andat the peak flow (large amount drawn off) isnecessary.

Regular inspection and routine servicing areindispensable in order to continue toachieve a successful process for manyyears after the unit is put into service. In thebuilding services sector this is covered byDIN EN 806-5.

A servicing agreement is the best way toensure a good operating function beyondthe warranty period.

Wherever possible, the regular servicingwork and supply with consumables andwearing materials, etc. should be carried outby the specialist trade or the factory’scustomer service department.
