Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
ENRICHMENT WEEK 15th – 19th July 2019
What is Enrichment Week? During Enrichment week, normal timetabled lessons will be suspended. Instead
a variety of activities and trips will be organised by staff. These activities will develop cross-curricular themes
and dimensions and give students an opportunity to enjoy a wealth of experiences beyond their normal
curriculum. These activities will also be fun and help to promote the values of the Beckfoot Oakbank Learner.
Activities and trips on offer: There are a wide choice of activities to choose from and there is something for
everybody. The activities and trips are outlined in this booklet. Students should look through this booklet
carefully with their parent/carer and decide on their choices together. If you do not choose anything then your
child will be allocated to an activity based on availability. To avoid disappointment, it is important to meet the
deadline below.
Residential information evening: For students who gain a place on a residential trip, it is a requirement that
they attend the enrichment week residential information evening Thursday 16th May where students, parents
and carers can ask trip leaders any questions. If parents and carers are unable to attend this event then please
make Carol Sanderson (Trip Co-Ordinator) aware via email at [email protected]
Returning the Slip: When students have decided which activity they would most like to take part in, they
should fill in the Activity Request Slip at the back of this booklet which should then be signed by their
parent/carer. Please make three different choices, the second and third choice being a reserve in case their first
choice is already full or does not run due to limited uptake. Then write down the codes of the activities, which
can be found in the top left hand corner of the booklet. Forms should be returned to Student Reception, no later
than Friday 23rd November 2018. The sooner the form is returned, the easier it will be for us to start planning
and paying deposits for the trips. Any slips returned after this deadline will result in the student not getting their
chosen activity. Please do not send any money at this stage.
Confirmation of trip place and payments: Once your child has been allocated a place (either on a residential
or a non-residential) contact will be made via a letter to parents, confirming which trip they are on and this will
then appear on your ParentPay account (see website). A deposit will then need to be paid no later than Friday
7th December 2018 with a further four further payments (see payment schedule on page 4). If you have any
issues with this, then please contact Carol Sanderson.
Importance of good behaviour: All allocations are subject to continued good A2L throughout the remainder
of the school year and students may lose their place, and any monies paid, if the school feels their safety and
the safety of others will be compromised on the trip.

Range of Activities and Costings
We have made every effort to ensure that students have a wide range of activities to choose from,
that all curriculum areas are covered and that all budgets are catered for. These costs cover materials,
accommodation, transport and admission fees depending on the activity. I hope all parents/carers will
be able to support us in this exciting week, which is a great opportunity to extend our students’
experiences beyond the normal curriculum. Payment plans for all trips can be found on the next page.
It is important that parents keep up to date with the payment schedule as these coincide
with the payments school will be making to travel companies. Missed payments (unless
contact is made with the school) will be considered as non-commitment to the trip and the
result in loss of place and all previous payments made.
Funding Please be aware that school is unable to subsidise Enrichment Week trips (see the Pupil
Premium policy on the school website). However our aim is to ensure every student in school has the opportunity to be part of at
least 1 residential during their time at Beckfoot Oakbank and there maybe potential for school to help our students achieve this.
If you have any queries regarding this, then please contact either Mr Paul Hopkins – Assistant Head Teacher [email protected] or Mr Hill – Assistant Head Teacher (Acting)
[email protected] or by telephone, who will be happy to help.
Duke of Edinburgh
Please note that students who have already chosen to do Duke of Edinburgh do not need to choose
another activity for Enrichment Week, as they will be completing the expedition phase of their
programme during Enrichment Week.
Key Dates
16th - November (Fri) - Booklets go out during tutor time
23rd November (Fri) - Return slip to Student Reception
7Th December (Fri) - Deadline for deposit payment
16th May (Thursday) - Residential trip evening – 6pm – 7pm
15th July (Mon) – 19th July (Fri) 2019 - Enrichment Week
Commitment to a trip and non-refundable deposits
Once students, parents and carers choose their activity they are committing it. The school will have
already made financial commitments / deposits, in order to secure the bookings for the
accommodation, transport, insurance and activities – as with any other trip booking.
The safety of our students is paramount on all trips, and unless we are advised not to travel by the
Home and Foreign Office, then the trip will still go ahead. As a result deposits are non refundable
regardless of changing personal circumstances or events in the news (including terror attacks). It is
crucially important therefore that parents/carers think carefully before committing to an activity,
especially residential trips.
