Texas. Texas DECA is inviting 350 business professionals to judge and evaluate student presentations at the 2018 Texas Career
Development Conference in Dallas. Conference attendees will present either a prepared business plan, research project, or sales
presentation or take part in an interactive role play as they work to solve a current business situation.
You, along with your colleagues, are in the perfect position to use your experience and knowledge of the working world to provide

Each DECA member will present their case study solutions,business plans or projects to judges in their respectiveareas of competition hoping to make a lasting impression.As a judge you’ll evaluate innovative ideas from forwardthinking DECA members while expanding your professionalnetwork and impacting the lives of our future – all in aday’s work.

While in Dallas, DECA members will be given a case studythat requires them, as a team or individually, to quicklysolve a problem. DECA members participating in writtenevents will prepare to deliver their presentations that theyhave been perfecting for nearly six months.

LEARNMore than 200,000 members are in high school and college classrooms studying marketing, entrepreneurship,finance, hospitality and management. DECA brings theirlearning to life by allowing them to apply their knowledgein realistic business scenarios. Top performing membersfrom local and district qualifying rounds will travel toDallas to compete at DECA’s state level of competition.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWHAT IS DECA?DECA is a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that focuses on o�eringco-curricular programs to high school students across the globe. DECA’s mission is to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. DECA’s Comprehensive Learning Program aspires to integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business and promote competition.
Students will take part in one of 50 di�erent competitive events. Categories range fromAutomotive Services Marketing to Human Resources Management to Travel & Tourism.The events focus around marketing, finance, hospitality, management and entrepreneurship.
No, DECA has local chapters in all 50 states, as well as 9 countries across the globe. Each state/provincial association sends their top performing students to compete annuallyat the International Career Development Conference. In 2016-2017, Texas DECA was thelargest association in the world with 14,420 members.
A number of our events require participation from 7:00 am - 5:00 pm. However, someevents run either only in the morning or only in the afternoon. A breakdown of the timesneeded for each event are detailed in this packet. It is imperative that you are able to stayfor the duration of your competitive event. Volunteers will receive breakfast and/or lunch as detailed, complimentary parking, and a thank you gift.
Yes! There are two ways for your company to sponsor a competitive event: 1) Provide 9 volunteers to serve as judges for that competitive event OR 2) Sponsor a competitive event by paying the $500 sponsorship feeAdditional sponsorship opportunities are available by visiting www.texasdeca.org/partner.
Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age and have experience in the field(s) of marketing,management, entrepreneurship, sales, hospitality, travel and tourism, human resources,finance, accounting or retailing.
Yes. There will be a judge training session upon arrival at the conference, as well asmaterials sent via email in advance. A DECA advisor and/or conference sta� will be availableduring the competition to answer any questions you may have throughout the day.

From 7:00 AM – 12:30 PM**
Students will assume the role of a financial consultant. A recent collegegraduate has scheduled a meeting with you because he/she is interested in
investing in a retirement plan. The college graduate would like you to make recommendationsthat will have the most positive financial impact. The college graduate
is interested in how much to save, retirement plans available and how long to save.
Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling**Judges Needed on Wednesday, February 21, 2018
From 12:00 PM – 4:30 PM**
Students will assume the role of a catering sales manager for a hotel.A potential client is interested in holding a three-day conference for 750 attendees
at the hotel and is meeting with you to determine unique and creativecatering options. Each conference attendee’s registration includes two breaks, a seated
dinner, a reception and two lunches during the three-day conference.
Professional Selling**Judges Needed on Wednesday, February 21, 2018

Students will assume the role of a sales representative of a virtual realitytechnologies firm. A human resources director of a major company has scheduleda meeting with you because he/she is interested in using virtual reality technology
to create a training experience for the company’s employees. The human resources directorwants to learn how your firm’s products will be beneficial to training the
company’s employees.

Operations ResearchThe 2018 topic for each career category is the development or
enhancement of a customer experience management strategy. Participants willcollaborate with a local business or organization to analyze current
customer experience management strategies and then present a plan to improve the customerexperience within the business or organization. The career categories include:

EntrepreneurshipThe Innovation Plan involves the idea generation and opportunity
recognition needed to take advantage of market opportunities to introduce a new business, product or service. Any type of business, product or service may be used.
The Start-Up Business Plan involves the development of a proposal to form a business. Any type of business may be used.
The Independent Business Plan involves the development of a comprehensive proposal to start a new business. Any type of business may be used.
The International Business Plan involves the development of aproposal to start a new business venture in an international setting. It may be a new business
or a new product or service of an existing business. Any type of business may be used.
The Business Growth Plan involves strategy development needed to grow an existing business owned by a current DECA member. Options may include franchising,
expanding into new markets, opening a second location, licensing agreements, merging withor acquiring another business, diversifying product lines, forming strategic
alliances with other businesses, expanding to the internet, etc.
The Franchise Business Plan involves the development of a comprehensive business plan proposal to buy into an existing franchise.

Marketing Representative EventsThe Advertising Campaign provides an opportunity for the participants to
demonstrate promotional knowledge and skills needed by managementpersonnel. Participants in the Advertising Campaign Event will
develop an advertising campaign of any length for a real product, service,company or business.
The Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan provides an opportunity for the participants to demonstrate promotional knowledge and skillsneeded by management personnel. Participants in the Fashion
Merchandising Promotion Plan will develop a seasonal sales promotion plan,using apparel and accessory items only, for a retail store.
The Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan provides an opportunity for theparticipants to demonstrate promotional knowledge and skills needed by management
personnel. Participants in the Sports and EntertainmentPromotion Plan will develop a seasonal sales promotion plan for a
sports and/or entertainment company.
