INSPECTION PROCEDURAL CHECKLIST

for inspecting an electrical panel

• Follow InterNACHI Standards of Practice

• Wear personal safety protection, including glasses and gloves

• Check adeuate workspace

• Panel !ust "e readily accessi"le

• #se proper inspection tools, including !agnet handle, insulated screwdriver, and flashlight

• Check adeuate illu!ination at workspace

• $easure height of !ain disconnect

• Inspect ca"inet front cover

• Check for incorrect type of screws or !issing screws at the ca"inet front cover 

• Inspect panel"oard

• All disconnects !ust have specific identification

• Check for inspection stickers and dates

• Check for identified filler plates

• Identify !ain overcurrent device

• %eter!ine si&e of service

•Safe re!oval of ca"inet front cover 

•  No foreign o"'ects or conta!ination inside ca"inet

• Check entrance conductors and lugs

• Identification of grounded conductor 

• Check cla!ps, connectors, and "ushings

•  No open knockouts per!itted

• Check for disconnected or loose conductors

• Inspect !ain "onding 'u!per 

• Inspect !ain grounding electrode conductor ()*C+

• Check for dou"led neutrals

• Check for dou"led hot conductors

• Identify any "reakers that are not per!itted "y !anufacturer 

•  No white wires on "reakers• est )FCIs and AFCIs

•  No door"ell transfor!ers inside ca"inet

• Check for loose euip!ent grounding conductor (*)C+

• Check for a!pacity or overfusing defects

•  No !elted conductor insulation

•  No rust, corrosion, or water inside ca"inet

•  No gaps "etween ca"inet and wall"oard greater than -./ inch

• Check !ultiple ca"les in connectors

• Check for da!age to wires

• Check for da!age to insulation sheathing

• Inspect for e0posed live wires

• Check identified handle ties

• 1ead the la"el on the ca"inet front cover 

• Identify product na!e and type of ca"inet fro! la"el

• Confir! a!ps and volts are identified on la"el

• Inspect the panel"oard diagra!

• Count !a0i!u! nu!"er of poles fro! the diagra!

• Confir! location of !ain "onding 'u!per 

• Identify twin or 2 "reakers

• In su"panel, confir! the grounds and neutrals are isolated or floating

•  Never leave e0posed panel"oard unattended
