Insite Florida
From the President’s Desk:Greetings and Happy Holidays from SITE Florida! Now that fall season has passed, we have a few
precious weeks to enjoy the fellowship of friends and family before we leap back into the fray in January.
I hope you all take the time to recharge your batteries and enjoy the little things while you can. In our
house, we anxiously await our son’s first college report card, and have high hopes that the marks match
his assurances. Wish us luck…
Your SITE Board is very excited about what has been accomplished this fall. As an organization, SITE Florida broke
new ground in holding our first Educational Caribbean Seminar on Incentive Travel in Curacao (please see the details in
this newsletter) It would be an injustice if I did not use this space to praise our fellow Board member Wichita Villacres for
everything she did to make this happen. Along with our incoming president Jane van der Bol, Wichita is very passionate
about bringing educational opportunities in Incentive Travel to the Caribbean, and she worked tirelessly to design and fulfill
this event. Thanks to Wichita for everything she did, the results speak for themselves.
Looking forward, 2013 is a special year for our chapter since SITE Global will hold its annual meeting in Orlando. Visitors
from all over the world will come together to increase their knowledge, form new relationships, and strengthen existing
ones. If you have never been fortunate enough to attend a SITE Global Conference, then we hope you will take advantage
of this amazing opportunity. As our Board works to support this event, we will be reaching out both for assistance in its
fulfillment and to encourage your attendance. We hope you will join us and support your SITE Florida team in delivering a
fantastic event.
Best Wishes to all and we will see you in 2013!

Bon Bini! Curacao welcomes the first Incentive Travel Educational Seminar
Forty five planners, suppliers and Hospitality executives enjoyed the first Educational Caribbean seminar on Incentive travel, held at the Curacao Marriott Resort & Emerald Casino November 14-15, 2012. Sponsors included the Curacao Tourist Board, Massive Production, Goodman Speakers Bureau USA, SITE Florida, SITE Canada, and ECO Destination Management Services Aruba/Curacao.
The program included informative workshops designed to educate all on the finer points of pursuing and retaining
high-end clients in the Caribbean. The Caribbean was well represented, with the Curacao Tourist Board
sending many local industry executives to the conference. In attendance included local hospitality professionals from Marriott, Hyatt Regency, the Plaza Hotel, Princess Beach, Hilton, as well as Yellow Tours, Business Serenity, Eco Destination Management Services and Massive Production.
Eco Destination Management Services, company president Wichita Villacres said, ‘Site Florida is expanding its
efforts and attention beyond professional development and networking by adding the Caribbean region as a viable player in Site Global, as well as an effective and relevant chapter in this global marketplace. It only makes good business sense to reach out to our neighbors, for meetings as well as networking events.’SITE Florida is excited at the developing opportunities in the Caribbean, and looks forward to the area being a key player in the overall growth of Incentive Travel and the professionals that serve the region. The Caribbean’s location fosters a natural synergy between the two markets, and we are grateful that several Caribbean executives have joined Site Florida and committed to assisting us in our ongoing mission.

Site’s Global Conference takes on Beijing More than 400 delegates from
43 countries gathered at the Site
International Conference in Beijing,
to experience all that Beijinghas to
offer as an incentive travel destination
and to expand their knowledge,
expertise and personal connections
with colleagues worldwide. Education
sessions explored everything from the
trends, benchmarking, innovations,
potential barriers to travel, adovacy,
destination messaging, understanding
the opportunities inbound and outbound
from China and other issues important
to our industry today. A highlight of
the education was a keynote session
by Aimia and Microsoft exploring how
one corporate entity views this powerful
business tool and how Microsoft
designs motitvational programs with
shared video of actual award winners
expressing feelings about their
experiences. In a nod to the best of the
best in incentive travel programs, ten
Crystal Award winner were recognized
in the annual award program luncheon
sponsored by IMEX.
All of Beijing was on display for
delegates with the opening evening
holding delightful entertainment and
dinner under the stars at the courtyard
at the Imperial Ancestral Temple. Tours
visited the Summer Palace, the Great
Wall, the Temple of Heaven and more.
The closing night’s Gala Dinner, held at
the remarkable Water Cube, highlighted
not only one of Beijing’s most unique
venues butcomplishment of several
leading Site Members.
Site Mexico President Julia Trejo,
Director of Group Sales for Terramar,
was named Site Member of the Year.
This incredible leader
inspires Site Members
around the globe to
move the industry
forward, and is a
tireless ambassador for
incentive travel business
in her country. Pablo
Sismanian, Meeting
Tourism Coordinator
at the National
Institute
of Tourism
Promotion
(INPROTUR)
of Argentina,
was given the
Kevin Forde
Spirit Award in
recognition of his
passion, advocacy and leadership. Mr.
Sismanian paved the way for Argentina
to host this year’s Site Executive
Summit, which drew an unprecedented
200 attendees from 14 countries. Also
honored was Lucky Morimoto, owner
of Event Services Inc in Japan, who
was Site’s 2012 Master Motivator of the
year. With the support of IBTM Global
Events and Reed Travel Exhbitions,
Site unveiled Site Canada as the 2012
Chapter of the Year.
Overall, delegates enjoyed Beijing’s rich
history, heritage and culture that have
firmly established this destination as
one of the world’s greatest cities. If your
business has not yet connected into
this striking land, or if you have not yet
discovered the beauty that is China first
hand, then talk to Site members who
experienced the hospitality of this great
nation and our Site China members.
Site Florida member,
Sean Mahoney,
Silversea Cruises Ltd.
said: “In our industry,
where going “above
and beyond” is the
norm, Beijing did its
best to demonstrate
how each of us
could recommend or even deliver an
incentive program in this wonderful city.
I must offer my appreciation again to
the Beijing Municipal Commission of
Tourism Development for being our most
gracious hosts. We hope everyone
felt that we delivered on our theme of
“Right Time, Right Place, Right People”.”

✔ Easy and Affordable Lift (ok, at least not grueling beyond
tolerable limits!)
✔ A Hotel that understands how to truly handle incentive
groups (not tour or FIT groups, but actually incentive
groups). A good way to get a measure on this is whether
they are willing to comp the site visit for you and your client –
this tells a lot about how interested they are in courting your
business and how confident that their property will provide a
truly great experience.
✔ Partners/Suppliers who will be flexible on contract terms and
are empowered to modify that contract within reason (every
client’s needs are truly unique).
✔ Unique and interesting area – not just a nice hotel, but a truly
cultural and unique experience.
✔ Service, service, service. In other words, unless you plan
to have a hundred staff on-site, you need to rely on the
property to respond and deliver VIP service to each and
every guest without constant follow-up.
✔ Suppliers with whom you have a very good working
relationship and who have historically proven to deliver
what’s promised.
✔ A really strong CSM committed to be on-site throughout the
program and who actually delivers what Sales promises!
✔ Easy and comfortable transfer between airport and hotel.
✔ No customs or easy enough customs to manage
expectations.
✔ Only deal with destinations that truly appreciate and
want your business, those that have bigger and better
opportunities could end up sabotaging your program in the
end if something sexier comes along.
