2016-2017 Area-Wide Directory

The 2016-2017 edition of the Area-Wide Directory is scheduled for distribution during the third week of May. Please remember to recycle your old books according to the information provided on the inside front cover of the 2016-2017 Directory. Each county has different instruc-tions, so make sure you find the proper instructions for your county.

On the outside of every home or business with communication services, there is a unit called a protector. The protector connects the service to the wiring inside the building. Farmers Mutual Telephone or Federated Telephone owns this equipment.

If you are planning to re-side your home or business, DO NOT try to remove the protector yourself. Simply contact our office a few days in advance and one of our technicians will come remove the unit.

Once the new siding has been installed, contact us so our technician can return to replace the unit (in the same location) for you free of charge. However, if you or your contractor damage the unit, you will be billed for any necessary repairs.

Congratulations Donna, Julie & Brad!

New Construction in Your Future?

Planning to Re-Side Your Home?

Don’t forget to put us on your checklist when planning your new construction or remodeling project. We can run wires much easier when the walls are open and get jacks ready for your future phone, TV or Internet connections.

We may also need to bury a fiber optic line if you are constructing in a new location. If you are having electricity trenched in, we are able to put our underground cable in with it. We want to make sure your project is a successful one and to make sure you have your telecommunications services ready to go when you move in!

Download the Gopher State One Call AppA Mobile app offers quick access to many of the Gopher State One Call’s (GSOC) resources and provides excavators, facility operators and homeowners with another avenue of communication with GSOC from their mobile smartphone or tablet device whether they are at the office, at home or working at a remote job site.

Features include:• E-Ticket: Information can be submitted before the digging begins. The site identified in the locate

ticket can be mapped by drawing a box directly around the area from a smart device.

• Positive Response: After processing a notice, the facility operator can update the status of the notice by submitting to the GSOC Positive Response system whether the site was cleared or marked in the field.

• Ticket Search: This tool allows an excavator to view the information inputted on the ticket by the facility operator. The excavator can view if a facility operator indicated the site is clear, marked in the field or are delayed in marking the site.

INTERNET

Need a Wireless Solution to Extend Internet to Another Building at Your Location?

We are excited to have a new option for our members to extend their current Internet connection to buildings and structures located on their property without having to run underground cable. It’s a great Internet solution if you have an office in an unattached shop on your property. Or, if you want to connect your grain bin to a computerized monitoring system.

There are no recurring monthly fees for the additional buildings. Farmers Mutual or Federated Telephone will discuss the best solution for your needs. Once the best solution is determined, the customer would purchase the needed equipment for a one-time fee along with paying the standard hourly rate for our technicians to install the equipment.

If you would like to know more about extending your current Internet connection to other buildings on your property, give us a call. Our customer service representatives will help schedule a site survey. A technician will come to your location and determine what the best option is for your particular needs. We are excited to have a blanket coverage solution for your property!

Each year at the annual meeting of the members of Farmers Mutual Telephone Company (FMTC), one or more directors are elected to serve on the board of the cooperative. If anyone is interested in running for the board, please review the Bylaws of the Cooperative. (Each new member is provided with a copy of the Bylaws of FMTC. If you no longer have your copy, you can obtain one by contacting our office at 1-320-568-2105 or they are available on our website at www.farmerstel.net.) Article IV deals with directors, Article V covers the meetings of the board and Article VI deals with officers of the board. The FMTC Board of Directors consists of two directors from District I, District II, District III, and one Director from District IV. Each director serves a term of 3 years and is elected by secret ballot at each annual meeting of the members.

In order to qualify for the board, you must be a member residing in the district to be represented. You cannot be an employee of FMTC or closely related to an incumbent director or employee of the Cooperative.

Each director is responsible for appointing one member from his or her district to serve on the nominating committee. The nominating committee is then responsible for nominating a candidate(s) for each director to be elected. Each candidate must be a resident of the district to be represented. The nominating committee was appointed at the April 2016 board meeting and will meet on April 28, 2016.

Article IV, Section 4 details the two ways to a nomination. The first way to be nominated and listed on the ballot is by being recognized as an official candidate by the nominating committee. A list of the official candidates is posted in the FMTC office following the meeting of the nominating committee. The second way to be nominated is with a petition of 15 or more members of the Cooperative not less than twenty days prior to the meeting. Keep in mind that the petition requires a minimum of 15 member signatures - having two signatures from the same household or business will count as one signature as they comprise only one member.

In 2016, the terms of Gerald Stensrud (District I) and Scott Wittnebel (District III) will expire.
