Many thanks to Bill Shipley, Dave Tarver and Chuck Williams for planning this picnic. GOCC 2011 Corvette Birthday Celebration

Hosted by Byron and Sally Kane The first Corvette came off the assembly line on June 30th 1953, and to commemorate this important event in auto sports car history, GOCC members have celebrated with a cruise and dinner in a local restaurant for the past several years. Our cruise this year was an hour-long drive that included Sawdust Hill just North of Poulsbo. This Corvette friendly road is paved but just a narrow strip of asphalt where the “rubber meets the road”. We did have to brake for a squirrel, a chipmunk and a robin on this secluded road. Our cruise was a scenic and relaxing ride though the back roads of North Kitsap. There were 16 Corvettes on the cruise, which included C3, C5, and C6 Corvettes in coupes, convertibles, Z06’s and Grand Sports (yes, we had two Z06’s and two Grand Sports). Nearly every basic color of Corvette was represented on this Birthday Cruise. We arrived at the Island Jamz Caribbean Restaurant in Keyport where most Corvettes did the Corvette thing and backed into parking slots. We had a nice buffet dinner, drinks, Corvette chat and were entertained by two steel drum musicians. This is proving to be a fun annual event for our club and hopefully more will join in the celebration in the years to come.
