CUSTOMER FEEDBACK NATUROPATHIC CONSULTATION “Its been 4 weeks since you prescribed a few things for Polly, since then she has been getting more perky every day! Her coat is shinier and her bowels are moving much easier. She is also more inclined to spend her days out in the yard, which is some-thing she was never keen on before. She is much more cuddly & purrs more. She has never been that affectionate, so this is real big news for us. Your advice has made a marked change for the better. I can't find the words to express our gratitude Julie, all I can think of is 'Thank you'! I'm sure you have added a few more years to her life and a lot of enjoyment as well. She looks and acts so much happier now. No more pained looks & she is moving freely & runs up and down the steps.” EMOTIONAL CONSULTATION “You made a remedy for our totally "stressed out" 4 yo blue heeler and we are writing to say thank you!! What a difference it has made. She can now do things that she has never been able to do and she is so much happier - need-less to say and so are we. You truly are a remarkable find and a brilliant talent. Once again we are delighted to express our gratitude. Thank you!”

GREENPET MUESLI TREATS “My dogs love these, they are great on their own or can be broken up and stuffed in treat toys as a boredom bust-er and used for training.”

TECHNYFLEX CANINE “My 6 year old rough collie had been con-stantly licking her knee joints in her front legs. These joints were always hot and I noticed she limped quite badly after exer-cise in the park. My vet diagnosed arthri-tis in her front legs. I did not want to use conventional drugs and searched for natu-ral remedies online. I found Greenpet and received a quick reply then ordered Tech-nyflex and Essentials powder. Since using these there is a noticeable improvement in her legs. The joints are not hot any-more, nor does she devote her spare time to licking them. Thanks!”

VETZLIFE ORAL CARE GEL “This gel is amazing! I have a chihuahua who had a dental at the vets 15 months ago and the vet said her bad teeth are due to genetics, he said she will need den-tal cleaning procedures every 18 months. Well I’ve been using this gel daily and her teeth are still pearly white, no bad breath. We changed vets and the new vet says he has never seen such clean teeth on a little dog. Also now using it on our new rescue chihuahua.”

LIPOMA SUPPORT PRESCRIPTION PACK “I purchased this about a month ago to use on my dogs growth on his muzzle - a small fatty lipoma which was the size of a small wart. The growth has shrunk a lot and flattened out and is almost gone.”

GREENPET HERBAL PET SHAMPOO “My dog's old sensitive skin shampoo always left him licking his skin areas for two weeks after his bath, however the Greenpet shampoo was great, no skin lick-ing at all - problem solved! Thank you very much”

WART PRESCRIPTION PACK This pack was amazing. My dog had a papilloma in his mouth for around seven weeks and it had grown quite large. It wasn’t giving him any discomfort it just didn’t look nice. I was recommended this product and literally after one treatment it had reduced in size dramatically. Now after only 3 days there is barely anything left – amazing! I am going to continue to use it as the products are natural just to help keep anymore potential ones at bay.

have never actually tried adding it. So be positive! If they refuse the food, then remove and discard the meal and do not offer anything else until the next mealtime. Try again and continue to remove the meal if it is refused. This is the crucial part because if you give-in and give their old favourite again. Then next time it will take even longer as they know if they hold off long enough, you will weaken and give-in. So, to make it easier on yourself and the animal, be consistent. Some animals are extremely stubborn, but they are not silly, and will eventually eat if fresh food is offered to them when hungry enough.

It is actually beneficial for healthy animals to fast occasionally, so don’t despair; they will not die from starva-tion if they do not eat for a couple of days. I have not yet come across an animal that willingly committed suicide by starvation over not liking a particular food. As long as they are not suffering from any health conditions or diseases, then it is fine for them to go without food occasionally as would happen naturally in the wild.

It is often surprising what a couple of days fasting will do to the appetite and many will relish the new diet with gusto, once they give it a chance.

Once they have accepted eating it, then gradually increase the amount of new healthy food, while reducing the old diet. This may take days, weeks or months depending on the particular animal. Each time they again refuse to eat it, remove the bowl until the next mealtime. They will soon learn that it

doesn’t pay to refuse it as long as you are con-sistent!

It is not advisable to leave food out all day for dogs or cats to nibble on. Do not leave food out for longer than half an hour before removing the bowl. It is not good for their digestion to nibble and it is much healthier to feed one or two meals daily for healthy adult animals and allow their digestive system to rest between meals.

If you are trying to add vegetables to your animal’s diet, then they must be finely minced or pureed, grating is too coarse and will not be absorbed properly. Ideally, they should be processed in a food processor until fine or you can use the pulp from a vegeta-ble juicer, with some of the juice added to moisten it.

Again, start with a small amount – ½ to 1 teaspoon for cats or 1 dessertspoon for larger dogs and increase gradually every few days or weeks until you are giving the desired amount. Cats need less vegetable matter than dogs do, and the amount varies also with puppies and older dogs.

To get your dog or cat to eat bones, try giving them some minced free-range chicken carcasses from a butcher and gradually move to chicken wings cut into bite size pieces with a meat cleaver. Then as they get used to them, increase the size until they will eat bones and all.

If your animal friend refuses to eat

TEMPTING FUSSY EATERS

What do you do when you have an animal that wont eat anything except a particular brand of pet food or only one kind of meat or fish & nothing else?

This can become a nightmare for some pet carers, especially when it comes to improving their health with more balance and variety.

In many instances this can be harder than trying to get the kids to eat their veggies!

Variety is just as important for animals as it is for humans. A diet consisting solely of one food is not healthy for anyone & dogs and cats are no exception to this either.

It is often cat’s or small dogs that tend to be fussy, but any breed can be rather particular about what they do and don’t like.

So how do you go about changing your fussy dog or cat’s diet to include more variety, healthy foods, etc?

The best advice I can give for this is to be consistent as this is the key to whether you will succeed or fail.

Start by mixing a tiny (even ½ teaspoon if necessary) of the new healthy food with their favourite food and be positive about offering it. They can pick up on your ‘negativity’ if you are reluctant before giving them a chance to taste it. I have heard so many clients say to me, ‘my dog/cat would never eat anything with that in it!’ When they

.Continued from previous page…..

anything raw, then start by cooking the meat gently under a grill to lightly cook the outside, while leaving the inside rare.

The following may help to increase palatability of foods when making the change over : Cats often love the taste of brewers or nutritional yeast. Coconut oil can be good to combine with supplements before adding to meals. A small amount of mashed sardines or pink salmon in spring water. Peanut butter or almond butter. A few drops of tamari or soy sauce.

Warm food to room temperature before serving or plunge bones into hot water to soften if taking straight from the fridge. Placing the meal under a grill for a few minutes will increase the aroma and often helps to tempt fussy eaters.

Most animals can eventually be tempted to eat a healthier diet, but some may take longer than others. It is certainly easier to start them off on the right track as puppies or kittens, but even older animals can be changed. You may not be able to teach an old dog new tricks, but you can teach them to eat healthier with perseverance and love!

CALCIUM IMBALANCE ISSUES FOR HORSES

Problems with calcium metabolism are common in Australia especially in re-gions where horses are grazing high oxalate grasses like Setaria and Buffel. The problems can be serious and very debilitating and unsightly, to rectify the issues is not just about adding lots of calcium to the diet, in fact this can make the problem worse. It is actually more about all the other nutrients which are necessary to help the calcium to do it’s work – look out for XtraCal.au Here’s a great example: ‘Shardy’ is an 8yr old Purebred Egyptian Arab, his owner was having no end of trouble with him. His issues included: - Frequent lameness issues and struggling to climb hills - He became spooky - Nose-rubbing a lot, especially when out riding, stopping on the track to rub his nose on his leg. - Muzzle twitching - Then he suddenly also developed the facial crests At this point friend and fellow Emmett therapist suggested getting in touch with Calm Healthy Horses for some diet adjustments.

He had been getting other ‘oxalate’ products for 2 years with zero results. The pictures show the results after just 3 months on XtraCal.au A very basic feed was recommended (oaten chaff, soaked beet and/or copra, 2 tablespoons salt daily, grassy hay) with XtraCal.au + Supreme Vit & Min. He was also fed GrazeEzy for the spookiness.

DIATOMACEOUS EARTH

What is it? There are two different grades of Diatomaceous earth (DE); Food grade and Pool grade.

Food grade diatomaceous earth is safe to use for the home, yards, and animals.

Pool grade diatomaceous earth is altered by high heat and is only safe to use in pools. This should never be given to animals. DE is a naturally occurring siliceous sedimentary mineral compound from remains of tiny fossilized water plants called diatoms. These plants have been part of the earth’s ecology since prehistoric times. 30 million years ago the diatoms built up into deep, chalky deposits of diatomite. The diatoms are mined and ground up to render a powder that looks and feels like talcum powder to us. It is a mineral based pesticide. DE is approximately 3% magnesium, 33% silicon, 19% calcium, 5% sodium, 2% iron and many other trace minerals such as titanium, boron, manganese, copper and zirconium.

It is 100% ecologically safe to the environment and non-poisonous to man and animals. In fact, if you’ve eaten anything made with flour, you’ve most likely eaten DE.

It’s used in commercial grain storage as a means of natural, poison-free insect control.

Are there any safety concerns with Diatomaceous Earth?

Although it is totally non-toxic to ingest, you must wear a dust mask when applying it as it can irritate the mucous membranes in the nose and mouth. If adding it to feed, avoid breathing in the dust and use in a well ventilated area and mix into moist food before feeding.

Once the DE dust has settled it won’t bother you.

Animal Use – Suggested feeding and application rates:

Horses - 1/2 to 1 cup in feed daily

Dogs - 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon daily in moist food

Cats - 1 teaspoon daily in moist food

Chickens - 5% in feed

Goats - 1% in grain feed

Diatomaceous earth can be used as a dust or spray for control of bed bugs, fleas and other insects in buildings, on pasture, crops and trees. The most important thing to do when using food grade diatomaceous earth to treat fleas or bed bugs is to ensure it is applied in all the places they love to hide.

• Around the borders of all the rooms in your house

• Along the door frame

• Under all furniture

• Any gaps in the walls

• On all sides of mattress & base

• On edges of sofa cushions, as well as under them

• Around the edges of the carpet

• Behind picture frames & mirrors It is best to leave the DE for two to five days before vacuuming up and apply-ing a second coat. By vacuuming every few days, you help to get rid of eggs and dead insects.

To use as a spray - Mix up to 1kg of DE with 4 litres of water with a wetting agent. Be sure to keep mixture agitated. Trees - Sprinkle liberally on the ground around base of fruit trees. Tree trunks can also be painted with a mixture of DE, water and a wetting agent. This will inhibit migration of various fruit flies (maggot stage). When a spray is desired, refer to spray rates.

DE is completely harmless to animals, fish, fowl or food.
