Gal 3:26 “For ye are all the children of God by faith in ChristJesus.”
“God has no grandchildren.” This“older than dirt” quip rings clearthat God only has children to the
first generation. A Christian is not someone who is born to Christian parents.People become God’s children through personal faith in His Son, Jesus Christ(Ephesians 1:5). It is an individual trust in Jesus Christ’s sufficient payment forsin and its penalty - eternal death. It is the reception of forgiveness and eternallife imparted through the resurrected Savior.
This personal trust has an impact on the life of the individual. At minimum, it is arecognition of and appreciation for the love that God has to us (I John 4:10) which,in turn, results in a love for God. “We love him, because he first loved us.” (I John4:19)
A faith like that is not passed down through the bloodline. No one is raised aChristian or made one by Christian parents. People will sometimes say “I wasraised in a devout Christian home. I consider myself a Christian but I….don‘t attend church….am not interested in the Bible,…am not very religious,….don’tcare for organized religion, etc.” In honesty, such folks should say, “I had a Christian exposure when I was young but I really don’t love Jesus, or have a desire to know God or be around those that do. I am not a Christian.”
