Officers 2016-17 In Memoriam Lion Marilyn Robertson

Our dear friend and faithful Lion Marilyn Robertson passed away on Saturday, March 18. Lion Marilyn became a Lion twenty years ago in March of 1997. Those of us who have known her in re-cent years remember her as our witty and energetic Tail Twister. Marilyn al-ways made us smile with her jokes and riddles, her songs and her skits. We will remember her fondly and miss her greatly. We extend our deepest condo-lences to her husband, our fellow Lion Terry, and to her children and family. A memorial service celebrating Marilyn’s life and faith will be held Sunday, April 9, at 2:00 PM at Columbia Presbyterian Church, 805 Columbia Ridge Drive in Vancouver. We hope many Fort Vancouver Lions will attend to remember Lion Marilyn and support her family at this difficult time.

Literacy Night at Washington Elementary, March 15 The 2nd and 3rd graders at Washington have been reading and discussing the "Katie Kazoo Switcheroo"series. This night was an opportunity for them to share the stories with family members. You might ask? What does jumping rope have to do with reading. To jump a rope successfully, you need to keep your balance, concentrate and have rhythm; same words are needed to be a successful reader. Ft. Vancouver Lions sponsored the evening, beginning with a dinner for 150, and then moving into the gym to participate in table activities relating to the story. Such words as frilly, peasant, wizard, fantasy, and character were used in games and table ac-tivities to reinforce the stories read. Students were expected to pick apart words, describe them and use them in a sentence. What a fun evening. Lion Martha

Fort Vancouver Lions Board Meeting Friday, February 17, 2017

Minutes

Lion President Tony Licata called the meeting to order at 10:37 a.m. Board Members Present: Lions Tony Licata, Doug Wilson, Gay Enyeart, Chriss Denny, Eva Halter, Martha Johnson, Len Leger, Lee Denny, Craig Limoges, Wanda Slevin, and Steve Staudinger General Members in Attendance: Lion Bill Shalaby Minutes: The minutes from Friday, January 20, 2017 were presented. Lion Lee made the motion to approve the minutes and Lion Len seconded the motion. The minutes were approved as presented unanimously. Correspondence: None Treasurers Report: Lion Gay reviewed club and foundation accounts and satisfactorily answered all questions. Proposals for Board Consideration: Proposal 1617-24: Approval of FTVC Lions Membership—Lion Linda Licata Lion Martha made the motion to approve. Lion Gay seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously and all expressed happiness that Lion Linda is joining the club. Proposal 1617-25: Year End General Membership Meeting Schedule Proposal Description: This proposal is to define a schedule for general membership and board meetings for the period March 2017 through June 2017. Lion Lee moved to approve the motion. Lion Eva seconded the motion. After some discussion correc-

tions were made to the schedule to include White Cane and to move the board meeting in March to

the 24th. Thursday, June 22 was identified as the date for the banquet. Steve moved to approve the

amended motion. Wanda seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

Proposal 1617-26: FTVCL Foundation Residual 2016-2017 Giving proposal Proposal Description: 2017 is Lions Club International’s centennial year. As part of this important anniversary, the Fort Vancouver Lions club is searching for a legacy centennial project. Our FTVC Li-ons Centennial Committee is expected to recommend a project(s) at our March board meeting that will utilize a significant portion of the releasable surplus of the Foundation account. Also, the board recently approved the Foundation reserve guideline and a mid-year analysis and year-end forecast of foundation account activity. This appears to indicate that launching a grant program for 2016-2017 combined with a centennial project(s) is not practical. Because in our original budget we did not pro-vide gifts to all of the foundation’s traditional beneficiaries, this proposal calls for completing that giv-ing and planning for the centennial project. The associated proposed giving plan and numbers are attached. Funds Required

Does this proposal require the club to spend funds? Yes or No If yes, how much? $2,390 Which fund is proposed as the source? Administrative or Foundation

Lion Len moved to approve motion, Eva seconded. After discussion, the motion was amended to add $300 for LERC, there was clarification on International, and the Piano Hospital was removed from the list pending a future project. Steve moved to accept the motion as amended, Martha seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

Incremental 2016-2017 Foundation Giving & Centennial Project

Beginning foundation fund balance $29,795 Impact of forecasted balanced budget 0 Per Guideline - Foundation Reserve $11,600 Balance for additional use this year $18,195 Recommended Additional Giving (Numbers proposed are the average of the previous two years rounded up to the nearest $50) LERC $300 Lions Clubs International Foundation $990 Camp Leo $200 Gales Creek Camp $200
