Transcript of Inside the #OrangeLife March 2016
Welcome to our 3rd edition of “Inside the#OrangeLife”. In this edition, we spotlight our supporters and sponsors, as well as continue to try and offer as much information as possible in one vehicle about your club.
From Lacrosse to Soccer, Tri-Club to Volleyball, Spring is a very busy time in the club. Throughoutthe Sandhills we see the #OrangeLife and its overwhelming affect on our community. Hopefullyin this issue we reflect that, and continue ournew tradition of bringing a little bit of the #Orangelife into your home.
Thank you and happy reading!Todd AbbeyExecutive Director
In this edition, readers will find out more informationon our multiple sport platforms. Read about how Lacrosse has grown, Volleyball’s success and Soccer’s continued growth and involvement in the Sandhills Area.
We will explore more about our newest tradition; the ACS Run or Dye Tryin 5K Color Run. We are excited to be hosting it at West Pinehurst Community Park. The unique aspect about this 5K is that it will all run on the property’s disc golf trailsl. You’ll start nice and clean and finish the color of the rainbow! There’s no race like this in our area.
In every issue of “Inside the # OrangeLife”, we want to give you something more. March is no different by far, at more than double the number of pages as our first launched January issue, this outlet is growing fast and loved by many! As you read, please take note of our sponsors as they are now using this new media outlet for offers and information about their businesses. We always want to make sure we are taking care of the ones taking care of us, and now you will learn a little more too.
Finally, March is the beginning of the end of our yearly soccer season. We now gear up for 2016-17! So note dates and times for all tryouts and registration coming up. Also don’t miss our Inaugural Awards Dinner in April!
In this edition, we continue to showcase our multi-sport platform as we focus on our Lacrosse Program.
ACS Lacrosse is now in the program’s third year of existence. Through much hard work, dedication & outside of the box thinking, our Lacrosse Director, Nikki Schwob, has made the sport viable in the Sandhills.
“There are many challenges we face when the club looks to add a new sport platform.” Executive Director, Todd Abbey states. “You have to look at trends, purpose, and most of all the people that will be driving the sport from behind the scenes. It is not as simple as just throwing it out there and having kids sign up. You want it to be as successful as it can be, that takes time. You have to make sure the Director has the same passion that we all do about giving youth as much opportunity to play as possible. Nikki has definitely done that and more. We are very lucky to have her, and are thankful for what she has been able to accomplish in such a short period of time.”
ACS lacrosse has stepped outside of the traditional club systems seen around the country and started to offer in-house and recreational levels to introduce the game. Abbey says, “With Nikk i ’s knowledge of how Lacrosse is run in the country, it was important to build the learning curve, and make sure
we created a base that the sport could draw and sustain from.”
On this months cover, we highlight Ellie Campbell. Ellie has transitioned from Soccer to Lacrosse in the club and is flourishing in the sport. Nikki notes, “Ellie is one of many players that is hoping to make the Select Team and travel to places like Asheville and Myrtle Beach to compete against some of the top club teams in the state.” Congratulations to Ellie for making the March Cover of Inside the #OrangeLife!

“U17’s WIN REGION TOURNAMENT IN GREENSBORO!” That was the headline on February 27th, at Greensboro College. This was very exciting for our girls and club, as this was only the 3rd time an ACS Team has accomplished that feat! The structure of Travel Volleyball re-seeds Teams every time they step on the court, so it makes winning tournaments a challenging task. The U17’s had to overcome a 12 Team tournament, with 4 out of their 7 matches going the full best of 3 Sets. Congrats to the 17’s, as they have had a very successful 2016 season,
so far, and wish them good luck as they head to Roanoke, VA on March 12-13th , for the Shamrock Festival 2-day Tournament. Our U13, U14, U15 & U16’s all competed tough in Region events recently. The U16’s lost a heartbreaker best of 3 set match in the Quarterfinals, in Climax, NC, and the U15’s competed tough, eventually losing in the Semi-Finals, in Fayetteville, NC. All 5 Travel Teams have a few more Region events in March, and then will prepare to head to the end of the year Regionals Tournament!
CONGRATULATIONS to TWO of AC Sandhills Volleyball Alumni that plan to take their game to the next level to play in College. Danika Woodford has signed on to play at Randolph-Macon College, in VA, and Erika Groff has committed to Sandhills Community College, NC! We would like to thank them for their successful time with ACS, and wish them a healthy & successful volleyball future at the college level!
TRAVEL VOLLEYBALL
DEVELOPMENTAL VOLLEYBALL
I n a d d i t i o n , o u r U 1 2 Developmental Program headed t o t h e i r 2 n d a n d f i n a l Tournament on February 27th! After competing tough in their first Tournament, both U12 Teams bounced back and both achieved wins, including one of the Teams winning in an exciting best of 3 the last match of the day! Congrats to Coach Tara & Celeste and all the girls to a
great season!! To cap off Year 2 of our Developmental Program, the coaches & players celebrated with a “Volleyball Social” night that included their favorite drills and lots of great food! Thanks to all the Coaches, Players & Parents for making this program a success!

COACH SPOTLIGHT
SPORT CLIPS COACH OF THE
Sports Clips Coach of the Month
We are excited to be partnering with Sports Clips of Southern Pines to recognize an ACS coach each month for their contribution to our club. This month we would like to announce Alison Walker as our first recipient of this recognition including a prize from Sports Clips of Southern Pines!
“Allison Walker demonstrates the qualities we hope for in a recreational soccer coach. She focuses on making sure that every player is enjoying the game, learning different skills to improve individually, and most importantly, teaching core values which are important on and off the field. Alison has used her position as coach to create a love for the game in her players and a desire to work hard in all that they do. We are so very glad to have her coaching in our program and we hope she continues for many many seasons to come!” ~Tyler Hudson
“Coaching soccer was not something I ever planned to do, however, during my sons first season of U10 I became the assistant coach. I became the head coach in the Spring season. After the first practice, I knew I could make this an absolute awesome experience for each kid! I taught them that sportsmanship, teamwork and believing in themselves would make them winners in all that they choose to do in life. They followed these values and never once had bad attitudes, never hung their heads when they lost and always tried harder to improve on their soccer skills. During practices and games I reminded them that they are the soccer players and I was there to guide them and cheer them on! Now at U12, it's extremely rewarding to see how they have continued to improve and how much they love the game! I also believe that having wonderful support from the families of our team helps make it such a great experience! Thank you to all of my soccer families!
