DENDY PORTSIDE TURNS 6

THE RACETHAT STOPS THE NATION

Restaurants across the precinct are gearing up for Melbourne Cup and it’s time to start thinking about where to watch the race that stops the nation. Chefs are putting the final touches on menus and there are plenty of vibrant coloured dresses, shoes and fascinators filling the shop windows, perfect for the big day. Tickets are on sale for all Portside Wharf Melbourne Cup Luncheons so pick your favourite restaurant and call to secure your place.

To celebrate their 6th birthday, Dendy Portside is offering $6 movies for 6 days before 6pm (notice a theme?) From Tuesday, September 18 until Sunday, September 23 enjoy $6 movie tickets before 6pm. Dendy has the birthday, and we get the presents!

The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour was broadcast in black and white on BBC1 on Boxing Day 1967 to family audiences. Now, 45 years on, the virtually forgotten film has been fully restored with a 5.1 soundtrack and is being presented properly for the first time.

Magical Mystery Tour is a surreal take on the British tradition of a coach trip to

the seaside, featuring John, Paul, George and Ringo as themselves along with an eccentric cast of characters played by professional actors. Other passengers were friends and associates with family invited along for the ride. They set off from London and headed west down the A30 to Cornwall where most of the film was shot.

ONE DAY ONLY Wednesday 27th September at 10.30am and 7pm

WHAT’S ON

BRISBANE CHEESE FESTIVAL A ROARING SUCCESS

NEW RETAILER - BOU’S FOR MEN

ELLA BACHE HAMILTON AT PORTSIDE SCOOPS UP AWARD

URBBANA HITS THE RUNWAY AT MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION FESTIVAL

Portside Wharf played host to the Brisbane Cheese Festival (BCA) on Sunday, September 9 and this year was another huge success for BCA organisers and volunteers. Now in its seventh year, the festival is the largest of its kind in Queensland and that was easy to see on Sunday when hoards of people from across South East Queensland descended on Portside to sample hundreds of fine artisan cheeses and wash it down with boutique beers and wine. The masterclasses held by Australian cheese expert, Will Studd and beer writer, Matt Kirkegaard proved very popular with the crowd, as did the cheese toasties that could be found in almost every hand at the festival.

The men around Hamilton will soon have no excuse for not looking their best when Bou’s for Men opens its doors in October. Having already established themselves in Brisbane City, Simon and his team are taking up residence at Portside Wharf and the ladies in the area couldn’t be happier! Not only will Bou’s for Men be offering barbering services like hair cuts and cut-throats, they will also have a range of hard-to-find products and old-style razors and brushes. We can’t wait!

A big congratulations to Ella Bache Hamilton at Portside who scooped up an award at the Ella Bache Awards last month at the Doltone House, Pyrmont. Steve and Fusun won the Ella Bache QLD/NT Business Development Award 2012 and were finalists in the Ella Bache QLD/NT State Therapist of the Year Award. Congratulations to the team - you’ve done Portside Wharf proud!

Urbbana’s debut to the Mercedes-Benz catwalk was nothing short of brilliant when Sam Abi showcased his latest collection of Urbbana menswear at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival. Choreographed by Sam himself, the show began in silence as the crowd watched the male model dress himself in shoes and jacket. But the music soon kicked in and a pumping soundtrack mixed by resident DJ at The Family nightclub, Simon Backhouse (Dynasty), had the crowd dancing in their seats. The show certainly impressed the country’s fashion elite and even managed to sneak in some outfits for the ladies. Make sure you check it out for yourself - watch the video at www.mbff.com.au/gallery/day6/Urbbana/

ARE YOU FIT TO RIDE?

CELEBRATE SPRING AND CRUISE INTO SUMMER

SCRUMPTIOUS SUMMER MENU AT MODA

Whether you ride to work in the morning, go for a casual ride to the shops on the weekend or you’re training for a triathlon, your legs are probably toned, taut and terrific, but what about the rest of your body? Do you find you start off strong and powerful and as the ride progresses your hips start to seesaw in the saddle, your lower back begins to ache, you start feeling the strain in your shoulder and neck muscles and you begin to slow down?

The problem is probably your core crying out for greater strength. The trainers at Jetts Gym Portside recommend a series or core stability exercises that can be done with little to no equipment. For some tips, head into Jetts where you can work out on your own or with the assistance of a trainer at a time and a pace that suits you.

Spring has sprung and Cruising Down Under are offering spectacular deals on what will be the biggest cruise season EVER for Australia. Celebrating the arrival of no fewer than five new cruise ships to our waters plus the return of several very popular seasonal ships plus the locally based favourites, Cruising Down Under have greatly reduced fares, and are offering bonus deals and free upgrades on over 200 departures during summer. Altogether, Australia will have 33 cruise ships sailing through its waters between October 12 and April 13.

Moda Events Portside’s new summer menu by Stephen Nardo has an emphasis on making the old new again, drawing inspiration from his culinary journey and previous workplaces. The delectable lamb cutlet entree is served with risotto and lamb glaze and is followed by the mouthwatering sirloin steak, Moda Mac n Raclette with edamame and beef sauce, and finished with Manjari chocolate Jaffa mouse with panforte, raspberries and oila...ahhhhh, the perfect meal.

WITH ELLA BACHE

With the change of season comes a change in your complexion. Heading into the warmer months the skin begins to soften and regain the moisture lost throughout winter, meaning it’s time to change your cleanser and choose a lighter moisturiser to enhance your natural glow. To find out what products you should be using to get your skin primed for the warmer months, head into Ella Bache Portside for a complimentary skin analysis. And while you’re there, get your body prepared for the spring racing carnival with all your beauty needs - from waxing to spray tans; pedicures and manicures.

Ella Bache’s high gloss non-chip gel nails last up to four weeks on the toes and three weeks on the fingernails with vibrant colours available. And, if you are feeling a little pasty, their professional tan, to be launched in October, has been reformulated with virtually no odour and it only takes two hours to dry!

The seasons are changing and the days are warming up and if you’re feeling the warmth, drop in and peruse the extensive range of sparkling wines at Stewarts Wine Co. They’ve just picked up a cracking little sparkler from Burgundy, Veuve d’Argent and they are offering it up for only $15.99. This is usually a restaurant-only wine but Stewarts have been lucky enough to get it onto their shelves. This bubbly is best enjoyed chilled in the afternoon light but if you’re still feeling the evening cool and throwing on vests and jumpers then maybe try the new range of Murray Street Vineyards reds for the special price of $25.99. Choose from Sublime Shiraz, Chewy Cabernet or Macho Mataro.

Stewarts Wine Co. have also picked up a whole new range of wines for their 3 for $40 deals including Barossa Valley Estates (makers of E&E Black Pepper Shiraz) and the family-owned McPherson Vineyards.

…And don’t forget the FREE weekly tastings every Saturday from 1pm-3pm. There’s a different wine each week so pop along and join the regulars who enjoy a FREE drop.

Brookfield Residential Properties has settled more than $64 million of apartments in Promenade, the latest stage of its Portside Wharf masterplanned community.

In total over 100 apartments have settled in the luxury building that stands 15 storeys tall with a fabulous mix of retail, dining and entertainment on its doorstep.

Brookfield Residential Properties Project Director Lee Butterworth said the figure represented over 80 per cent of the 125 apartments sold at completion in Promenade.

“The settlement rate has been extremely strong in the current market and, in addition, we have made more than $6 million in new sales since Promenade was completed, which is a fantastic endorsement of the quality of what has been delivered.”
