INSIDE

GOSSIP

The Firs Christmas Fair was a very popular event with two VIP guests visiting the event, Father Christmas & his reindeer, Jeff. The Fair was opened by Reverend Terry Williams, vicar of Codnor and Waingroves who blessed the home’s Christmas tree in tribute to a much loved

resident who had recently passed away. Father Christmas kindly visited all our residents in the home to give them an early Christmas gift whilst Jeff stayed outdoors in the home’s garden. Altogether, an amazing £211 was raised for the residents fund! Thank you so much to everyone who attended the fair and all the staff

for helping out and making it a successful event.

Aldercar Beauty College came to visit our residents to give them a bit of a pamper during the cold, awful weather. Having a hand massage and a manicure soon brought a smile to everyone’s face. Everyone was

pleased with the end result!

A Panto Visit!

Tickled Pink Productions performed a Winter Wonderland which all our residents, relatives & staff enjoyed. Quite a few residents even got involved near the end by joining in singing and even getting up to have a dance!

Congratulations Rose!Congratulations to our Senior Carer, Rose Wheeler who has been selected as a finalist in the National Great British Care Awards 2013. Judges were very impressed with her interview during the Regional Finals. Rose has been invited to the Awards Ceremony at the very glamourous Marriott Grosvenor House in London this Spring. We’ve

got our fingers crossed for you Rose!

New Year’s WishesAlthough our residents didn’t really have any New Year’s Resolutions, we have put together a New Year Wish tree. Smalley Hall’s Mural

Happy New Year to you all & I hope you had a great Christmas, I certainly did.

I am very pleased to say that the mural at Smalley Hall is nearing completion.

These are the latest pictures I have on my camera, but those of you who have visited the home recently will know the last few weeks have been fairly energetic and that the mural is in its final stages…

Just before Christmas we had a visit from one of the local schools, Morley Primary School. The children had kindly come to sing carols with our residents. I was very impressed with how confidently everyone sang and the residents, staff and visitors all enjoyed themselves.

It is not everyday that school children can view a mural in the process of being painted so I asked their teacher if they would like a talk about it on their way out. This was taken up with resounding enthusiasm.

The children were very interested in how the design had come about by gathering together all sorts of memories from our residents. All the children and teachers crowded into the main lobby, we even gained some other visitors and staff, the space filled right up. We had a good old chat about the painting, the local history and about techniques. There were some quite tough questions and I really enjoyed myself talking to such a brilliant and lively bunch of children. And who knows one of them might even be encouraged to take up art on this sort of scale one day…… I just hope that there are no unexpected murals appearing in bedrooms across Derbyshire, or I will not be too popular!

My DayWritten by Margaret Critclow, King William Resident

Every morning, every day,Around 8 o’clock, I get up from where I lay,

For Breakfast I eat a full English meal,To me this is quite a big deal,

Bacon, Black Pudding, Tomatoes and Bread,Running out of something is something i dread,

Listening to music and singing a song,Next to Joan, in the lounge I belong,My favorite past time is doing a Quiz

When Jessica comes with the book I say ‘Gee Wiz!’

Then ,When 6 o’clock comes I give a big cheer,It means my favorite programme, Eggheads is here!

After my soaps are done I take to my bed,Until the next morning, I rest my head.

At the King WilliamWritten by Judith Smith, King William Resident

When I get up at the crack of dawn,I start my day off with a big yawn.

A coffee and cigarette is my priority, Sometimes a carer comes outside with me.

Next on the list is a fried breakfast,Saving the best (a fried egg) till last!I often make our head cook laugh,

As sometimes the kitchen is treated as a cafe.Into the lounge, next to Phyllis I sit,

I remind the girls to feed the fish to do my bit.I like to watch the show, Jeremy Kyle

Watching the fights often makes me smile.I like all the food, the trifles the best,

But Jessica’s cheesecake beats the rest. The rest of the day I snooze away,

Listening to the music that they play.I look forward to tea as my husband comes here,

To see me every tea time, his company is dear.Off to my bed, between 11 and 12 o’clock

Where the carers check on me giving the door a knock. And there I lay as quiet as a mouse,

Until I am awoken, it can be a noisy house!

Valentine’s Day is here,Yet again another year.

Our memories we keep forever,And we will always be together.

On this day I think of you,Because I know our love is true.

My Wedding day I will always treasure,Because loving you was my greatest pleasure.

We made a lovely family which is expanding still today,And I am pleased to say I am proud in every way.

So this is my way of saying that I Love You,And now each day I look forward to doing something new.
