The management and staff of the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation are thrilled to report that the 2013 Golf4Smiles Tournament raised over $90,000. 100% of these funds go directly to provide essential oral health services such as dental screenings, sealants, fluoride varnish applications, dental supply distribution and oral health instruction to communities throughout the state of Arizona. With over 200 golfers participating on two courses at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, the event was bigger and better than ever. The Foundation would not have realized such success without the generous support of our sponsors, volunteers, donors and board members – a very big THANK YOU to all who donated time and energy to make this such a success! The 2014 event will be held on Friday, May 16 at Grayhawk Golf Course. We look forward to seeing you and making 2014 another record-breaking event. This event would not be possible, literally, without the dozens of volunteers who give their time, effort and energy to register golfers, gather raffle items, stuff envelopes, move boxes and boxes of “stuff” to the course, create signage, plus take care of the hundreds of other tasks that are required to make this the best possible experience for the golfers and sponsors.

Not only do we salute them, we give them a standing ovation for their hard work and dedication to Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation.

Bank of America Practice Solutions participated in the Golf4Smiles Tournament for the first time last year and Senior Vice President and Regional Sales Manager, Jay Baer, promises to be back. Not only did he learn he must bring a different chipping wedge to the chipping contest so he can take another crack at the prize, he is excited to be back in the Valley helping local dentists achieve their career goals. After 12 years in Columbus, OH managing the entire sales force for Bank of America, Jay is now running west coast operations for the Practice Solutions division, which provides flexible and competitive financing programs for various loan products. From start-up practice loans to business consolidations loans, Jay provides a level of personalized attention, convenience and simplicity to dentists so they can concentrate on their patients. You can contact Jay at [email protected], 614-402-8181 or look for him at the next Golf4Smiles Tournament – he’ll be the guy with the new chipping wedge.

Dr. Feldhake occasionally takes a day off from providing high-level dental care to appreciative patients at his

114th Street and Shea location or his 5310 W. Thunderbird location to play a round of golf. Everyone at Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation is equally as appreciative that he saves one day each spring to play in the Golf4Smiles Tournament. “I truly feel the funds raised at the Golf4Smiles Tournament go to a good cause. There are very few non-profit organizations where 100% of your donation – without administrative expenses – goes directly to provide preventive treatment to children.” We hope you save us another day on your calendar this spring Dr. Feldhake.

Arizona Transitions has a tradition of supporting worthy causes in dentistry. Fred Heppner, principal of Arizona Transitions and Proactive Practice Management, has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Arizona Dental Foundation and instrumental in opening the Arizona Community Dental Clinic in downtown Phoenix, which serves the working poor, patients with special needs and those without access to dental care. Fred believes that the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation’s Golf4Smiles Tournament is another great way for Arizona Transitions to help others achieve good oral health.

Dr. Dale Hallberg feels he has the best dental office staff in Arizona and quite possibly, the entire world! They are always ready and willing to help the needy from Give Kids a Smile to AZDA Foundation’s Donated Dental Services to the Poore Free Medical Clinic to the Mission of Mercy and even to those in need that are treated off the street. So the team jumped at the chance to participate in the Golf4Smiles Tournament. “I’m always looking for a fun round of golf, but to be able to contribute to the programs that DDAZ Foundation supports to boot, it’s a win-win!” said Dr. Hallberg. “I would like to encourage all the other DDAZ participating dentists and dental offices to become involved in this great organization and event.” We will always hold a spot in the tournament for you, Dr. Hallberg! Thank you for your exuberant support of oral health and DDAZ Foundation.

Pacific Dental Services has over 50 affiliated dental practices in Arizona and has a firm belief of giving back to their community, which is why PDS participated in the Golf4Smiles Tournament. In addition to supporting the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation, PDS participated in “We Serve Day” where their dentists, hygienists and staff provided much-needed, free dental work totaling over $350,000 in August 2013 to patients in various local shelters. Their employees also staff the “We Serve Bus” benefitting a wide variety of communities throughout the Valley, including Mesa Care and the Salvation Army just this fall. Dr. Ian Young of Tempe Modern Dentistry and Orthodontics, an affiliated office of PDS, states, “My goal in giving back is to make every person’s life that I come into contact with just a little better than before they came to see me. If we can get people to give just a little back, we can improve the quality of life for so many.”

General Dynamics C4 Systems believes in strengthening communities and the company’s greatest contribution is carried out by the work of their employees and their commitment to public service. Their passion for developing mission-critical solutions for defense and first-responders is matched by their dedication to supporting important local causes. C4 Systems is pleased to support community-based organizations and events, including Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation and the Golf4Smiles Tournament.

Paul Zajas, founder of Dental Elite, a family-owned and operated business that has been

supplying the US dental market with high-quality, affordable dental products for over 15 years, made

his first appearance at the Golf4Smiles Tournament in May. “I had a great time, despite the fact that we were

awarded the prize for the highest score. If we were in a bowling tournament, we would have won!” said Zajas. “Despite that, I’m

proud to support such a worthwhile cause.” He is also proud of the fact that his company provides superior service, has live people answering the phones and offers national quality products with a 30-40% savings over larger established dental supply firms – he would like to show Arizona dental offices the Dental Elite difference. Call 888-228-7706 to contact Paul or one of the Dental Elite family.

Risa means “grin” in Spanish and Dr. Nicolas Porter, CEO and Found-er of Risas Dental, has given many people reason to smile. Not only has he participated in the Golf4Smiles Tournament since he started the company in 2011, making those who support the mission of the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation smile, but he built Risas Dental with the goal of making dentistry affordable for everyone in the community – thus more smiles! To help his patients find their best smile, Risas Dental conducts “Regalando Risas” (Giving Away Smiles) every Labor Day and during the opening of a new Risas Dental office. During Regalando Risas, the company provides one free dental procedure (cleaning, exam and x-ray, filling or an extrac-tion) to patients on a first-come, first-served basis from 8am-noon. That’s a lot of smiles!

Greg Harris, Partner at Lewis Roca Rothgerber, has worked closely with Delta Dental of Arizona since 1999. During that time, he has

led the firm’s participation Golf4Smiles and looks forward to continued participation in this event. Mr. Harris enjoys supporting Delta Dental of Arizona because the company is a proven leader in promoting access to dental health throughout the state. Going to the dentist isn’t a luxury, it is a necessity in so many ways for good physical and oral health. Delta Dental helps make possible access to dental care for those who can’t afford this essential health treatment and Lewis Roca Rothgerber in turn helps Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation achieve their goals.

The Best Law Firm has been a long-time supporter of the Golf4Smiles Tournament – and not just because Cindy and Tali are such great golfers – but because they believe Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation provides a great service to the community by promoting oral health for children and families. The Best Law Firm has a passion for healthy families and specializes in family law. The attorneys are extremely

sensitive to the emotional nature of

The Best Law Firm

this type of work and welcome the opportunity to empower their clients as they experience family transitions. All the attorneys in the practice assist in all phases of family law, from mediation to trial to settlement. Cindy Best started the firm 2007 and her daughter, Tali Collins, joined the firm in 2008. Tali is a member of the Golf4Smiles Planning Committee that helps create and execute the tournament and sell sponsorships. We thank everyone at The Best Law Firm for their ongoing support and never-ending smiles!

Septodont, an international developer and manufacturer of dental supplies, was very pleased to sponsor the Golf4Smiles Tournament. The national philanthropic focus of Septodont is to make a positive difference within the dental community. In addition to their regional support of the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation, Septodont provides dental supplies and encourages their employees to volunteer for both the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation and Oral Health America. Septodont believes, that dentistry is about offering the best dental and oral care for the patient. It is much more than a procedure, it is about building relationships with the people in the chair, making them comfortable, putting them at ease and utilizing the best techniques and products to insure an excellent outcome. With this in mind, in 2011 the company acquired OraVerse, the only anesthetic reversal agent that cuts the time being numb in half (oraverse.com). Once learning of the benefits of utilizing OraVerse, dentists enthusiastically incorporate OraVerse into their treatment plan, not only for patient comfort, but also to accurately check symmetry after a cosmetic case.

If you are interested in learning about the benefits of OraVerse, contact David Benovy at [email protected]

3M ESPE Foursome at 2013 Golf4Smiles Tournament, Left to Right: Brenda Huerta,

Andrew Pietrobono, Amy Hooks, Matt Bender

Matt Bender of 3M ESPE has participated in the Golf4Smiles Tournament for the last 4 years because he is on a mission to beat Keith Gauzza, Golf4Smiles Committee Chair and Delta Dental Foundation board member at golf – and because “I truly believe it’s a great cause!” says Bender. “As I work for a company that manufactures and markets more than 2,000 products and services designed to help dental professionals improve their patients’ oral health, I have a

passion for improving oral health, as does Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation.” 3M ESPE has been awarded “Most Innovative Dental Company” by Anaheim Group for the last number of years and Bender has his eye on another prize – the Golf4Smiles Tournament winners’ circle. He plans on making his 5th appearance at the tournament in 2014 at Grayhawk Golf Club. “Keith Gauzza better bring his A game next year!” warns Bender.

According to Brett Wallerstedt at Sun Devil IMG Sports Marketing, “We are a community-owned organization in Arizona due to the substantial investment of countless Sun Devil supporters who contribute to the success of ASU’s athletes and athletic programs. Therefore, the entire department, from administrators and coaches to the student athletes, believe in investing back into the community in numerous ways. It is truly an honor to contribute to the overall oral health of our community by participating in the Golf4Smiles Tournament. It is through community partnerships like these that Sun Devil Athletics is able to support their student athletes to compete at world class levels, but more importantly to develop young men and women into future community leaders.”

Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation welcomed Menlo Commercial Real Estate as a sponsor of the 2013 Golf4Smiles Tournament, although it’s surprising they had time to attend. In addition to working closely with the dental industry providing real estate brokerage services, specializing in tenant and buyer

representation, landlord and seller representation, investment services and real estate consulting throughout the state of Arizona, four of its brokers have been studying diligently for the last two years to obtain the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation from the CCIM Institute, one of the leading commercial real estate associations in the world. In addition to Menlo Commercial Real Estate founder,

Tanner Milne, receiving his CCIM, brokers Rich Andrus, Stuart Milne and Grafton Milne were pinned as new designees of the CCIM Institute in Denver, Colorado this year. We understand their time is precious and we truly appreciate their participation and support of Golf4Smiles Tournament. We hope they will save Friday, May 16, 2014 for us on their calendars.

With a smart approach to financing, National Bank of Arizona (NB|AZ) understands the entrepreneurial

spirit of Arizona business. Founded in Tucson in 1984, NB|AZ is a full-service community bank offering unique business and personal financial solutions that help customers manage and grow their bottom line. As Northern Region and Northwest Region President of NB|AZ, Felix Durazo feels nonprofit organizations are an important part of the Arizona community. As Finance Chair and board member of the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation, Felix wholeheartedly supports the Golf4Smiles Tournament. “I believe it is critical to support the organization’s fundraising efforts…plus, it’s a great day of golf, on a spectacular course and it’s always a lot of fun!”
