McAbee Construction adds Terex AC350/6 400 Ton All-Terrain Crane

New 400 Ton Lift CAPACITYIt’s hard to miss, but if you haven’t heard about it or seen it yet, McAbee has a new crane in the equipment family. Just last week, a Terex AC350/6 400-ton crane arrived. To say it is big would be an understatement. Notice the 275-Ton Grove next to it in the picture, that used to be our biggest crane. The Terex AC 350/6 is very impressive and will help with numerous heavy lifting and long-radius projects. The crane has a total boom tip height of 412 feet, a main boom of 210 feet, Luffing jib at 236 feet, and supports up to 257,000 pounds of counter weight.

Gift Wrapping Fundraiser for Junior

Achievement Throughout the Christmas Holidays McAbee held a gift wrapping fundraiser for Junior Achievement. For a donation employees could have their gifts beautifully wrapped while they worked. The fundraiser was a huge success with more than $500 contributed to the 2016 Junior Achievement campaign. Be on the lookout for more fun fundraisers coming up!!!

For Halloween, McAbee participated in the community Trunk or Treat event hosted by the Westervelt Transportation Museum and The Tuscaloosa Public Library. Several employees set up a tent with the theme “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” and passed out candy. McAbee employees and their families were invited to attend in lieu of having a trick or treat at the home office. The turnout was great and everyonehad a fantastic time.

Holidays on the River has become an annual event for McAbee sponsorship. This year, the whole event moved to the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, and it was better than ever. McAbee was able to reserve the entire amphitheater for an employee family fun night which included ice skating at the artificial ice rink. A dinner buffet was served along with hot chocolate and s’mores. The Christmas boat parade returned and passed behind the amphitheater for all to enjoy. Santa made an appearance and posed for photos with the McAbee families.

McAbee partners with Oakdale Primary for the Tuscaloosa City Schools Adopt-a-School program. This past quarter, McAbee donated several items to be used in a silent auction at the Annual Fall Festival. Those items were: Skull Candy Grind Edition noise canceling headphones, Nabi S2 Educational tablet, Jawbone UP3 activity tracker, and a Sony wireless Bluetooth speaker.

Mid-November is Adopt-a-School week. During that week McAbee provided boxed lunches for the teachers, while other adopted partners volunteered to sit with students so the

teachers could enjoy a duty-free lunch time. At Christmas we provided 25 families with vouchers for turkeys. Each turkey voucher was accompanied by donations from our partner adopters and nonperishable items from a student-led canned-food drive.

To begin our 4th quarter, McAbee participated in the first annual Worlds of Work student expo at Shelton State Community College. This event is put on by the Alabama Department of Workforce Development to bring awareness to junior high students about all the different job opportunities available in their region. Workforce Development partnered with industry leaders to create a two day, hands on experience for 8th grade students in the Tuscaloosa area and surrounding counties. Students learned about job opportunities in Healthcare, Manufacturing, Automotive, Public Service, Construction, Energy, and Agriculture. Within the world of construction, students participated in building a tiny house, nailing dry wall, bending conduit, making items plumb and level, creating pvc pipe models, trying a welding simulator, and watching a live welding display via a live feed television or from behind safety blinds. The event was a huge success and the committees have already begun plannning for next year, which will take place October 13-14.

TRUNK or Treat

HOLIDAYSon the River

Zilkha Biomass - Selma, Ala.Employees have completed the SE Silo & Hammermill/Baghouse project and will continue operations support and miscellaneous plant maintenance.

Plant McDonough - Smyrna, Ga.Employees are currently working to install an ammonia system which includes foundations, structural steel, equipment, piping, and electrical instrumentation and controls.

Red Hills Power Plant - Ackerman, Miss.This new location will begin mobilization in late January. Employees will be working to install a Mercury test umbilical.

Greene Co. Steam Plant - Demopolis, Ala.Gas Conversion: The plant is currently converting from coal to natural gas. Gas Conversion project began in September 2015 and will complete June 2016 with 100,000 man hours across +/- 120 craftspeople.

Solutia/Eastman Chemical - Anniston, Ala. New customer/site will commence soon with McAbee as the only outside contractor. Expect Full maintenance contract with the possibility of additional work.

Plant Ratcliffe (Kemper County) - Dekalb, Miss.Kemper County is picking up again. We currently have about 65 employees on site, but soon may have over 100. Manpower hours are also increasing as more work is assigned. There will be a significant maintenance outage in March. McAbee also won the maintenance agreement on the combined cycle project.

Gorgas Steam Plant - Parrish, Ala.During the Fall outage three major projects were completed for Alabama Power. The U9 Feedwater Heater replacement, the U10 Draincooler Replacement, and the U8&9 Expansion Joint replacement. All three of these projects were on the critical path of the outage schedule, and were completed by McAbee ahead of schedule and accident free. In total McAbee worked 21,352 safe man-hours at Plant Gorgas in Q4 2015.

Miller Steam Plant - Quinton, Ala.MRCS: McAbee is presently installing a Mercury Re-emission Control System on all four units at Plant Miller. This project entails setting four large silos, as well as fabrication and installation of 5,000LF of pipe. McAbee has worked 14,610 safe man-hours on this project to date. Plant Miller has an expected completion date of March 2016. In Q4 of 2015, McAbee worked approximately 17,959 total man-hours at Plant Miller.

International Paper - Rome, Ga.Employees at the Rome job site will be starting off the year with some concrete jobs, pouring U-drains and slab work. Employees will also be continuing routine plant maintenance. McAbee has added Jeffery Bates to the supervision team at the jobsite. He is a Pipefitter by trade and is from the Rome area.

International Paper - Prattville, Ala.The plant is planning a PM2 capacity upgrade early this year.

Georgia Pacific - Cedar Springs, Ga.Currently, employees are working to rebuild coal pulverizers throughout the plant. Routine plant maintenance will also continue. This past quarter, employees were called upon for two emergency jobs when the main water line inlet to the plant ruptured. McAbee welders organized and worked around-the-clock to safely and quickly repair the water line and allowing the plant to return to normal operations. Great Job!

Resolute Forest Products (formerly Bowater) - Calhoun, Tenn.Employees at Resolute Forest Products recently completed a wood yard outage and immediately rolled into a second outage working on Digesters. McAbee is finishing critical tie-ins for the new continuous digesters so that they can be installed and put online. Soon, McAbee employees will have a new stainless steel pipe job, which begins later this month.

Barry Steam Plant - Bucks, Ala.CO2/HES: Continuing operations and maintenance support throughout the plant. Foundations, structural steel, equipment, piping, electrical instrumentation and control installations are progressing for a Mercury Re-emission Control System (MRCS), an acid injection system, and an auxiliary boiler.

Jobsite Update

International Paper - Vicksburg, Miss.IP in Vicksburg, Miss. is a new site we have recently begun working. McAbee employees will be working the maintenance agreement at this location.

Mead (now WestRock-MWV) - Cottonton, Ala.MeadWestVaco is currently going through a corporate merger with Rock-Tenn to form the new WestRock- MWV. Employees will be assisting with a mill-wide clean-up project for the merger. Included are various piping repairs and upgrades throughout the mill. WE will have a larger maintenance presence and take care of such projects as they arise. There will also be various 1-2 day outages as the clean-up progresses. The McAbee crew at WestRock worked safely all quarter with NO RECORDABLE INCIDENTS. Keep up the safe work!

Nissan - Canton, Miss.Over the Holidays, employees worked a very successful outage completing an Anode & Eductor changeout in the Paint 2 area. Our successful changeout has opened the door for McAbee to win future business.

Mercedes Benz United States International - Vance, Ala.Employees recently completed two important projects. The first, a mezzanine reinforcement in the assembly shop, and the second was a conveyor refurbishing. McAbee crews successfully finished two days ahead of schedule, and the plant became operational ahead of schedule. Mercedes was very pleased with McAbee’s efficient and quality work.

Plant Gaston - Wilsonville, Ala.McAbee started the U5 Natural Gas Conversion Piping installation at Plant Gaston. Since October 2015, it has installed more than 20,000LF of large and small bore pipe (which was fabricated by our shop). We have worked 32,493 total safe man-hours in Q4 2015. This project entered the U5 outage and will wrap up at the end of February 2016.

Gadsden Steam Plant - Gadsden, Ala.In August, Billy Wright started supervising a small concrete job at Plant Gadsden and has since picked up several projects which carried a small labor force into 2016 - - including the remodel of the Plant’s main entrance & security gate. We have worked a total 5,334 safe man-hours under his supervision at Plant Gadsden.

Demand on the fabrication department has taken off since December. There are jobs and prospects lined up for the rest of 2016. - Four different pipe fabrication packages for a power plant in Maryland (Pipe Fab)

- 415 pipe spools for an underground pipe fabrication project for a customer in Massachusetts.

- A Crude oil column for Continental Refining in Kentucky (Vessels)

- An overhead receiver for Hunt Refining (Vessels)

- 150” Autoclave for American Autoclave

- Benzene Stripper Column (distillation column) for CPG/Continental (Vessels)

- Reflux Tank for CPG/Continental (Vessels)

- Blowdown vessel for Barry Steam Plant

- 20’x50’ Vapor Body made of Monel 400 for CYDSA- Mexico

McAbee Jobsite from the PAST

Acensium Chute Fabrication Project - (To be installed at Miller Steam Plant)The sheetmetal shop is currently wrapping up fabrication of one of their most complex projects to date. This project involves fabrication of 3D designed coal transfer chutes to be installed at Plant Miller during the upcoming spring outage. These chutes are made of 3/8” stainless steel plate welded together from 985 individual pieces to create the final product. This system will efficiently transfer coal from two incoming conveyors, then split the coal onto the main conveyors into the plant with full redundancy. McAbee is currently installing structural steel and performing relocations to accommodate the new chutes onsite.
