from AJ Power Limited.

AJ POWERDOES IT AGAIN!

A sustained and vigorous approach to securing new customers has resulted in growth of exports outside the United Kingdom to 96% during the 2015 calendar year equating to an increase of nearly £7.5million. The awards were held in the Culloden Hotel, Holywood, Belfast and were attended by over 350 people from some of the top businesses in Northern Ireland.

To come out on top and attain this level of recognition for the third year running is humbling and an achievement that we at AJ Power are very proud of.

For the third year running AJ Power picked up the top award for Excellence in Exporting sponsored by FedEx at this year’s Belfast Telegraph Northern Ireland Business awards, in association with British Airways.

AJ POWER ARE DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE ARE THE RECIPIENT OF A QUEEN’S AWARD FOR INTERNATIONAL TRADE.

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the highest official UK awards for business success. The award was received for achieving outstanding growth in overseas sales over the last three financial years. Her Majesty The Queen makes the Awards on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an Advisory Committee that includes representatives of Government, industry and commerce, and the trade unions. They are announced annually on 21 April, the Queen’s birthday, which this year was her 90th birthday.

AJ Power is one of only two Northern Ireland companies, out of 243 businesses across the UK to receive an award this year.

AJ Power’s managing director, Ashley Pigott, said:

“Winning a prestigious Queen’s Award offers all at AJ Power the opportunity to reflect on the significant export growth and overall business success we have achieved during the last three years. We strongly believe that winning the award will help us to gain recognition and raise our profile throughout the world.”

The award will be officially presented to AJ Power by the Lord-Lieutenant, the Queen’s local representative in the coming weeks.

AJ POWERFOR BEVERAGE COMPANy IN GHANA

Two AJ1400 Mitsubishi powered S12R-PTA gensets, rated at

1250KVA Prime power, 1400kVA Standby power were supplied. Each set was supplied with a 3200 litre day tank which included automatic fuel transfer system from the main bulk fuel storage tank.

The plant room was supplied with sound

attenuators and exterior louvres based on a sound level of 85dBA @ 1m.

For the same installation a smaller AJ275 powered by an AGCO Power engine was supplied, rated at 250kVA prime power.

The three gensets were supplied with set mounted synchronising panels and motorised circuit breakers, the sets are being used

daily to provide power on a load demand start / stop scenario, for the beverage company factory, situated in Accra.

AJ Power previously supplied 2 x 1250kVA generating sets for the same compound for this beverage company. These latest machines brings the total power supplied to this customer to 5.25MVA.

training nEWs:G&J Technical Services Ltd. place a big emphasis on training. In early May this year we welcomed Wisdom and Kwame from Ghana to the factory for full product training. The pair work for a customer of G&J Technical Services.

Training included: All control panels, ATS operation and key parameters, alternator training, reading our wiring diagrams, remote comms demo and how to set up websupervisor and synchronisation of gensets.

It was concluded with a written examination and certificates of completion were awarded.

The AJ Power 9M range of generating sets has been enhanced with the

introduction of the new MTU GX6 2000 Series engines into the product portfolio.

The engines are available in 12,16 and 18 cylinder versions with ratings from 750kVA prime to 1430kVA standby, 50Hz.

The machines ‘hit’ the key market modes of 750, 1000 and 1250 prime power which are widely specified.

The engine displacement has been increased by 12% and performance has been enhanced by the use of state of the art common rail fuel

injection technology with a new faster (processor) controller.

The enhancements are not just confined to increased output. The engines are capable of operation at higher altitudes without derate and lower maintenance costs are achievable due to extended service life of the main components.

AJ Power Senior Electrical Engineer Eugene Devlin (pictured 2nd from right) has recently completed a 4 day training course with MTU in

Germany.

The course was officially titled “System ECU-9/Smart Connect CE3/G (for 2000-06)”. It covered training on the new ADEC ECU-9 Advance Diesel Engine Controller which included the New EIL (Engine Identification Label) on MTU Engines and the new Smart Connect Module for interfacing with the new ADEC ECU-9. Also included was a practical side where Eugene had the opportunity to go to the factory floor to program ADEC ECU-9 on engines using the Diasys2.70 Software.

This interesting course was finished with a Factory Floor seeing the production process firsthand, right from the crank case being made, to the assembly of engines, testing and painting of the engines before they are shipped out.

We despatched the first of these new engines to Russia earlier this year.

These models are rated at 800kVA Prime Power, 880kVA Standby Power.

construction, building material and mining machines and construction vehicles and equipment sets future trends.

The width and height of the AJ275 canopied unit is the same as that of the AJ220. (1150mm x 1980mm) The length of the machine is 4000mm.

It also shares the styling features of the AJ220, chamfered corners for improved canopy rigidity and louvred inlets to aid airflow whilst preventing water ingress, this maintains the

Following the very successful introduction of the revised 5 series

AJ150 to AJ220 range a few years ago, a decision was taken to extend this to AJ275, both open and canopied.

The most dramatic change is the cooling pack fitted with the engine. The aspect ratio of the original radiator fan arrangement (height to width) is relatively high and problematic for canopy design aesthetics. It was acknowledged that a new radiator design would be required in order to improve package ability.

AJ Power engineers, with the help of their major radiator supply partner, developed a new compact cooling pack, similar in layout to the AJ220 unit but with the same cooling performance as the original AJ275 cooling pack. The new cooling pack shares many of the components with that fitted to the AJ220. Although the major benefits of this change are packaging improvement, the commonality of components has major implications for spare parts compatibility.

The compact AJ275 is a similar size to the compact AJ220. It shares all of the available options and includes the new mono-bolted baseframe with rotationally moulded fuel tank as standard. A CE certified version of

family styling concept for this product. Once again the standard machine is available with mono-bolted baseframe and rotationally moulded fuel tank. Baseframe options include bunded base with rotationally moulded tank or welded steel tank and extended operation fuel tanks.

The canopied unit is available in CE certified (97LWA) and non CE certified versions (100LWA).

ENGINEERS OF THE FUTURELOCAL SCHOOL VISITS

inDUsTRiAL VisiT

The school students of today, are the engineers of

tomorrow and so AJ Power is conscious to be involved in education whenever possible.We were approached by the Business Studies department of Belfast Royal Academy earlier this year with the a view to AJ Power becoming a case study for G.S.C.E assessments.

The Belfast Royal Academy was founded in 1785 and is the oldest school in the city. Today it is now a large, coeducational, non denominational day grammar school with strong academic, musical and sporting traditions. There are some 1400 pupils at the grammar school.

We were of course pleased to be a part of this as some of our current staff are past pupils of BRA, as it is fondly known. The first stage of this involved a presentation on AJ Power as a company and a quick overview of a generating set. A few weeks later some 80 Form 5 students visited the AJ Power factory for an industrial visit. The visit included a full factory tour, showing the pupils tests bays, research & development areas and quality assurance procedures.

Later this month AJ Power will feature in their upcoming G.C.S.E. controlled assessment so it was a good opportunity for the students to learn and see more about AJ Power as a business and also give an insight into the world of an engineering led company.

ENGINEERS OF THE FUTURELOCAL SCHOOL VISITS

CAREER’s FAiR

Also in March this year Product Manager, Chris Fox and Mechanical Placement

student Adam Smyth attended a career’s fair at a local secondary school, St. Ronan’s College.

Approximately 630 students from the multi-site school attended the fair. Businesses from all sector were in attendance, from hairdressing to engineering.

Chris and Adam enjoyed the many questions from pupils on the field of engineering.
