Jan. 12, Introduction to Pastel 1 - 4 p.m. Guest Artist Vanda Eding-ton. Learn about pastel and create an impressionistic landscape painting. This workshop is for beginners but enjoyable for anyone that enjoys art. After an introduction of the medium of pastel and some basic on papers, choosing your palette, composition and how to use pastel, you will create your own painting, step by step. Cost is $35 and includes all materials - if you have a set of pastels please bring them with you.

Jan. 16, Toddlers Crafting Fun Every third Wednesday, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Fun, fluffy snowmen to be put together!

Jan. 22 - 24, Slaf and Sling Pottery 1 - 5 p.m. Learn hand built pottery techniques and create a stoneware sling platter. Students are asked to bring an old pillow case. Cost is $45 and includes stoneware clay, use of tools and instruction. An eve-ning class can be scheduled if there is enough interest in a later time.

Jan. 26, The Stein Class Re-vis-ited noon - 3 p.m. Learn to pour one of our Collectible Steins or any item of your choice. Students will learn slip casting and finishing techniques. Transition-GPS (Goals, Plan-ning, Success) Are you separating in the next 12 months, or retiring within the next 2 years? If so, plan to attend a 5-day workshop to provide active duty, guard and reserve, spouses and DOD civilians with skills and knowl-edge to successfully transition to a second career and life after the mili-tary. Workshop includes valuable VA benefits, interviewing skills, resume writing and more. YES ProgramThe Youth Employment Skills (YES)

program is an on-base volunteer program for high school students. YES allows students to “bank” $4 in grant funding for every hour volunteered at a base function. Students may accumulate as much as 250 hours over all four years of high school combined, for a potential maximum of $1,000 toward their future vocational-technical or academic endeavors. Applications may be picked up at the Youth Center. Applications for the 2012-2013 Youth Employment Skills (YES) program are currently available for high school students (grades 9-12). The YES program allows enrolled high school students to earn money to go toward their post-secondary education/training at a rate of $4.00 per hour at an on-base position.

Voice InstructionThe Youth Center is proud to now

offer voice lessons conducted by experienced and professionally trained teachers who can help school age children, teens, and/or adults, whether they are beginners or are looking to improve their current vocal skills. Sessions are offered for $65 per month for two 45 minute sessions per week per student. Discounts for more than one family member are available as well as a reduced monthly cost for one 45 minute session per week. Call the Youth Center register for lessons or to receive additional information.

KempoThis is an instructional program

designed to teach the fundamentals and importance of sports and exercise as well as physical conditioning.

This class is a combination of both hard and soft styles of martial arts, utilizing hard techniques such as kicking, punching, and blocking, as well as soft techniques similar to Brazilian Jui Ji Tsu. Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Pee Wee (ages 4 - 6), 6 - 6:45 p.m., Juniors (ages 7 - 15), 6:45 - 7:45 p.m. and Seniors (ages 16 & older), 7:45 - 8:45 p.m. Pee Wee class is $30. The Give Parents A Break Program is January 12,

Warren Fitness ChallengeGetting fit and healthy is a great

way to bring in the New Year. The 2013 F. E Warren Fitness Chal-lenge will kick off on Jan. 21 and run through Apr. 12 at Freedom Hall Fit-ness Center. It’s an individual fitness challenge to improve your overall fitness and health. You will complete a pre-fitness evaluation which in-clude weight, abdominal circumfer-ence measurement, 1 minute timed pushups, 1 minute timed sit ups, pull ups, cardio beep test and a flexibility test. Throughout the eight weeks you will participate in activities that will help you improve your overall fit-ness. Activities include Freedom Hall aerobic classes to improve your fit-ness and Warren Health and Wellness Center classes to teach participants how to start and continue healthy lifestyle choices. You will complete a post-assessment in 8 weeks to record your final improvements. Top 3 win-ners from each category will receive a prize. The grand prize will be given to the member with the biggest im-provement.
