Backrack™, designed and developed by the Company's MD, Mr Bogdan Luklinski, was launched in 2003.

Mr Luklinski is an expert in spinal rehabilitation, with over 40 years of clinical experience. In 1973, he trained with DrCyriax who first developed the principles of Orthopaedic Medicine. Four years later, he trained in Perth, Australia, learningthe techniques developed by G D Maitland, a leading practit ioner in the field of spinal orthopaedic medicine.

How istheBackrack™ different?Effective, safe and unique - developed by a specialist.Backrack™is constructed from high quality, ethically sourced wood, and consists of a number of lateral spindles, each featuringtwo nodules either side of a central channel.

Back pain may be caused by bone deformity directly linked to compression. This is when your spine becomes squashed orshortened from its natural length. Backrack™works directly on the cause of back pain by decompressing your spine. By treatingthe cause rather than just the symptoms, you can banish back pain – for good. It has a unique concept and application in backcare.

If we can decompress the spine, which the Backrack™ does, we can treat the causes, and hence the symptoms, of back pain.

How does theBackrack™ work?

Backrack™is very easy to use. You simply lie down on the device and do a series of exercises that concentrate on particular areas ofyour back and neck.

Your spine is physically suspended in the channel of the Backrack™and nodules push up under the joints of your back.This allowsyour spine to lengthen and decompress, reversing the effects of a range of back problems. The Backrack™ is based on orthopaedicmedical expertise and is entirely safe and effective. Backrack™ can be used at homewithout medical supervision.

Patients are instructed to lie on the rack, in a central position, with their knees bent:The Backrack™mirrors the natural curvature of the spine so that the back is fully supported in a neutral position.

The wooden nodules push up, on either side of the spine, lifting the individual vertebrae, causing them to pivot about the joints inthe back.

As a result the joints are decompressed, the spine lengthens, joint mobility and soft-tissue elasticity increases, reducing stiffness andback pain.

Additionally the pressure on the joints and the inter-vertebral discs is lowered, reducing the risk of spinal osteoarthritis andbulging or herniated discs.

Finally, the pressure on the spinal nerves is reduced, which alleviates symptoms such as acute local pain, sciatica, and pins andneedles.

This is very important: Backrack™is designed to remove unwanted stress on the spine while maintaining the beneficial pressure.

Backrack™treats the causes, and hence the symptoms,of back pain. The spine is decompressed, reversing the effects of gravity aswell as injury, bad posture and old age.

In order to develop a fundamental understanding of the Backrack™ mechanism during thetreatment and prevention of back pain symptoms, a finite element analysis was performed. Thisnew and innovative approach is used in many scientific projects for specific applications. In this case itallowed to simulation of the displacement parameter affecting decompression of the facet joints ofthe spinal vertebrae along the whole length of the human spine - see Figure 1.

The simulation was carried out on a single spindle for three different parts of a human spine:thoracic, cervical and lumbar. Measurements were performed for a number of scenarios: a personof average weight laying in a standard position, and for situations when an increased localload is applied to different parts of various exercise positions of a person lying on the device.

A three-dimensional finite element structure of a single spindle composed of two pseudo-ballsand its analytical mesh is shown in Figure 2. The dimensions and shape agree with the patentedmodel. The modulus value of the material in consideration was specifically chosen, as well as theload distribution along the whole length of the human spine for the final element calculation. Thisallowed the actual displacement values along the spindle to be obtained as a result of the appliedload to specific points. This displacement is directly responsible for the mechanical movement ofthe facet joint leading to stress release associated with back pain problems.

Graphical presentation of the lumbar region in standard positionThe linear graphs illustrate the symmetrical displacement in the direction of the applied load occurring alongthe spindle under certain loads. These vary in a systematic way, translating the load and therefore, theequivalent stress into the relevant part of the spine, causing pain relief. The initial standard position for thecervical, thoracic and lumbar regions of the spine is shown in Figure 3.As the load varies during specific exercises performed by a patient on the Backrack™, the displacement of theweight bearing fluctuates accordingly, increasing its function over the affected regions, as demonstrated inFigures 4, 5 and 6.
