ACCESS TO INNOVATION PARTNER

GOLD PARTNERS

The goal of the World Agri-Tech Innovation series, now in its fifth year, is to accelerate the transition of technology from the laboratory to the field by connecting entrepreneurs with partners, investors, accelerators and growers.

This year’s theme is “Commercialising Innovation in Tomorrow’s Agri-Food Systems” and we look forward to two days of disruptive thinking on the potential of AI, robotics, gene editing and synthetic biology to transform the efficiency and resiliency of our farming systems.

Most importantly we hope to pool the expertise of everyone in the room to really push the boundaries of innovation, and generate new ideas around open innovation, collaboration and partnerships and how we can better nurture the start-up ecosystem here in Europe to fast-track R&D to the field.

Roundtable discussion groups, our networking drinks reception and the ability to arrange 1-1 meetings during the summit create extensive opportunities to connect with new partners and we encourage everyone to participate. The Rethink team will be available throughout the summit if you need assistance with meetings or to facilitate introductions.

I would particularly like to thank our sponsors and exhibitors for their support for this summit, and the ten exciting young technology companies who we look forward to hearing from in our innovation showcase sessions.

This year, for the first time, one of the presenting companies will be the winner of the World Agri-Tech Demo Day, to which we invited 10 seed-stage companies to pitch. All 10 of the short-listed companies will be here at the summit.

As we look ahead to next year, and to our sister summit in San Francisco, please take the time to share with us your thoughts, feedback and suggestions. Your input is essential to ensure we continue to build engaging and informative events that are of real value to your business.

I hope you have a great summit.

Agroceutical Products (APL) isolates pharmaceutically active compounds from a selected range of daffodil varieties grown in the Welsh uplands. These daffodils produce a range of alkaloids which have been shown to have an impact on a range of diseases. Currently APL is focusing on the extraction of Galanthamine, a proven drug used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease. APL has developed its own protocols for growing, processing and isolating alkaloids from daffodil materials.

Aspire Food Group is an award-winning enterprise developing the most advanced edible insect farming technology in the world. Its fully-automated, patent-pending and modular technology can be scaled to any size in any geography. It targets markets that utilize insects for nutrition, and utilize insect by-products in numerous industrial applications.

Cerescon is a young and rapidly developing high-tech start-up that is focused on the development, production and marketing of a selective asparagus harvester. Harvesting asparagus is very labour-intensive. Cerescon has developed a patented technique for subsurface detection and based on that the first selective harvesting robot in the world. The machine has a capacity of 40 hectares replacing up to 70 manual workers. It halves harvesting costs and gives more and better-quality asparagus.

ecoRobotix develops autonomous weeding robots to strongly reduce herbicides in a large variety of crops, resulting in lower weeding costs, reduced crop damage, and lower toxic residues in food and the environment. The robot detects and classifies the plants using machine learning techniques, and deposits herbicide only on the weeds. The machine is fully solar-powered and auto-piloted. Its low weight makes it safe. The market is high-added value crops with inefficient or expensive herbicides, representing in weeding costs of several billion Euros each year.

edete develops end-to-end automated pollination systems. The company’s controlled, manageable mechanical pollination system is designed to reduce dependency on haphazard, insect-based pollination processes and to increase agriculture yields. edete’s solution is based on a pollen harvesting and production system including long-term storage of pollen stock and an autonomic system that rapidly and thoroughly covers any open flower in its range. Its top market is almond and other deciduous trees.

Founded in 2014, Fyteko focuses on fighting the impact of climate change on crops, by developing new innovative and sustainable (bio based) solutions for agriculture. Fyteko’s strengths relies on over 30 years of R&D knowledge, that enabled the development of a new approach in producing specific bioactive compounds (no extracts or mixes). With the goal of helping farmers maintain yields, Fyteko’s first products (Nurspray® and Nurseed®) enable crops to recover better after droughts or heat waves.

Harris Geospatial Solutions delivers scientifically proven technologies to help make accurate, informed decisions using remotely sensed imagery and data. ENVI® Crop Science – its leading agriculture product – analyses the spectral information within imagery to provide extensive crop health information, even to users who have little to no experience with remote sensing techniques.

iCownect is a cloud-based herd management software application that allows farmers to consolidate all their data, and assess their technical and economic efficiencies in real time. Its broad spectrum of features allows famers to predict and anticipate, to leverage their livestock, and to easily collaborate with suppliers and partners, resulting in better decision-making and enhanced profitability.

Founded in 2012, Novihum Technologies developed a revolutionary soil additive that does in “one shot” what takes decades to achieve using current standard methods. It modifies lignite to make it identical to stable humus, a key component of fertile soils. Novihum is an easy-to-use granulate with immediate and long-term action, that dramatically increases soil fertility. Data shows yield increases of 50% or higher vs. standard practice in a quarter of all trials, with an overall average increase above 10%.

RootWave™ is pioneering the use of electricity to kill weeds as an organic alternative to chemical herbicides which are under increasing pressure due to resistance building in weeds and from regulators restricting their use. RootWave’™ is working with partners to integrate its technology into existing weeding platforms. The company has won a €1.3m grant to integrate with an automated agricultural weeder. It’s working with a global garden tool manufacture to co-develop a consumer hand-lance.
