Pamarco has announced the onboarding of a new Technical Sales Rep-resentative for the Southwestern U.S., according to an article appearing in Flex-oGlobal. The appointment goes to Mark Sherk, who lives in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and has a background in graphic arts, in pressroom management, and in inks, rubber, and anilox rollers. The article cites his positive record of sales and territory management, and Pamarco stated their excitement to have him join their team.

Tetra Pak and supplier Braskem are now the first in the food and beverage packaging sector to sustainably source plant-based fibers using Bonscuro’s sustainable sugar cane standards, says an article in Packaging World. This step is a part of Tetra Pak’s larger Planet Positive initiative, through which they encourage members of the industry to focus on including lowered carbon emission goals along with efforts towards a circular economy. According to the article, Braskem, the supplier, has now reached 100% certifiable levels of Bonscuro sustainably sources sugar cane.

UPM Raflatac has launched a new product line now available in the Americas, says an article appearing in Labels & Labeling. The new product is RAFNXT+ Paper Label for use in a variety of applications. These products are a part of UPM’s Forest Positive approach, a sustainability initiative that aims at healing and improving the planet’s forests. Further, according to the article, RAFNXT+ Laminates are up to 20% more carbon positive than traditional paper.

Andrew Berlin is stepping down as Chairman and CEO of Berlin Packaging, according to an article featured in Ink World Magazine. According to the article, the company specifically clarified that this departure is not due to any disagreement with the organization and that he will remain in an advisory capacity through the end of the year in order to ensure a smooth transition. Berlin and his father purchased the company in 1988; since then, the company has had earning’s growth every single year, starting at $70 million in sales when purchased to $1.4 billion last year.

The company’s Michael Grebe will now serve as executive chairman and John W. Zimmerman will serve as an interim CEO until a permanent replacement can be found.

Constantia Flexibles has opened the first construction plant to produce exclusively more sustainable and recyclable flexible packaging, says an article in Label & Narrow Web. This new site is located in India and took two years to construct. Although the facility has been performing test runs since September, the official opening day is November 20th. Currently, the new factory employs 50 people, but that number is expected to triple by the second quarter of 2020. The facility will produce only Ecolam products, which is a subset of Constantia’s Ecolutions products.

CCL Industries has announced an upcoming acquisition, says an article in Ink World Magazine. They intend to purchase Stuck On You Holdings Pty Ltd and Stuck on You Trading Pty Ltd, known together as SOY, is an Australian manufacturer of personalized children’s labels. CCL is purchasing their shares for around $8.1 million in a deal expected to close by the end of November.

FUJIFILM Donates To Clemson University’s

Clemson Unviersity’s Sonoco Institute has received another equipment donation, according to an article in Ink World Magazine. Coming from Fujifilm, the institute is receiving an Acuity Select 26 digital UV flatbed press and the Illumina LED Retrofit System, as well as 3 years of maintenance and training for the same. The article affirms that the opportunity to gain experience by technology that’s in use throughout the industry will help students of the program be more prepared and effective for their eventual careers in the field.

HERMA has developed a new label material created from sun dried hay, according to an article in Flexible Packaging. The process for creating grass-based labels from sun dried hay is significantly less impactful to the environment than the process for creating papers from wood. For example, CO2 emitted is significantly lower, the process does not use any chemicals, and water and energy savings are 99% and 97% respectively.

The final, finished product, called HERMAnature fieno (grade 340), includes 30% of this hay-based material. Further, the material does not contain any allergens (subject to (EU) 1169/2011 labeling requirements), which makes it ideal for use in consumables like food or cosmetics.

Gallus has marked a major milestone, selling their 100th overall Labelmaster press at LabelExpo Europe 2019, according to an article in Ink World Magazine. It will be installed at Interfas, a company headquartered in Louviers, France in 2020.

Gallus Labelmaster, a conventional, 8 color label press has a printing width of 440 mm, has 3 die cutting units, and includes integrated cold foil finishing.

All American Label And Packaging was founded in 1995, and is a full-service label and packaging company that offers digital, flexo, and offset capabilities. Label Art was founded in 1965 and offers digital and flexo.

The Tag & Label Manufacturer’s Institute has announced new board member’s and officers declared from their annual meeting in California, says an article appearing in Labels & Labeling. Tara Halpin, CEO at Steinhauser; John McDowell, the president of McDowell Label and Screen Printing; and Kristin Yerecic Scott, marketing director of Yerecic Label; have all joined the board in the converter field while David Ellen, who is the global divisional director of Domino Digital Printing, joins in the supplier field.

Converter’s Expo South is scheduled for February 12th, 2020 at Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, NC, according to Flexible Packaging Magazine. This will be its 3rd annual event that aims to bring together businesses and suppliers from across the converting industry. The early-bird registration rate of $50 for attendance is currently in effect but is set to expire on January 2nd, 2020.

The event, which lasts from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, will include a free lunch buffet and happy hour for attendees to network.
