HEUI-HI315B® Operation

The injector utilizes a two-wire, multiple

waveform electronic control strategy to

energize the solenoid and control the

injection cycle.

Injection can be tailored to provide:

Ramp Rate Shape Injection

Square Rate Shape Injection

Multiple “Split” Injections (Pilot Injection)


Delivery Tolerance (Trim Code)

Slight differences between

injectors have an effect on

fuel delivery.

Machining tolerances

Friction between parts

Magnetic forces

Unique Trim Codes for

each injector tailor their

performance to more closely

match the target injector.

Why Trim Codes are Important

The trim code affects timing and

fuel delivery throughout the ECM

map.

To get the maximum benefit from

this type of injector, you MUST

upload the trim code file to the ECM

when you install the injector. Failure

to do so may result in poor engine

performance, rough idle, poor fuel

economy, increased emissions, and

could also result in engine damage.


Trim Code Installation

A disc containing the unique trim code file is

supplied with each injector.

In order to enter the trim code into the ECM

either of the following is required:

Delphi Trim Code Upload Software with

NEXIQ USB Link

or

Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET)

program with Communication Adapter 317-

7484

Failure to enter the correct trim code into

the ECM can affect engine performance and

emissions.

Hardware Requirements

Diagnostic cable.

NEXIQ USB Link

Laptop Computer with

internet connection.


Program Features

Swap (Exchange)

Load (Change)


ECM Serial Number GrabIt Program

Sequence of operation

Connect diagnostic cable to

the vehicle

Connect to the NEXIQ

Connect to the laptop

Start the GrabIt software

Click on Grab It

Select the connection


Delphi Trim Code File Loader Program


Connect diagnostic cable to

the vehicle

Connect to the NEXIQ

Connect to the laptop

Connect to the internet

Start the program

Select C7 or C15

Click on Connect

Select the connection


Upload a Trim Code file


Select the Injector

Click on Load (Change)

Locate the Trim Code File

Click on Open

The Trim Code File is

uploaded to the ECM


Swap Injectors


Select the injector

Click on Swap (Exchange)

Select the other injector

Click OK

The injectors are swapped.

Trim Code Installation – ET Program

Once the Electronic

Technician program is

open, click on Service

then Calibration.



Select Injector Trim

Calibration, then click

on Start.



Double click on the

injector that will be

replaced.



On the Open screen

select the location of

the appropriate trim

code file located on

the CD-Rom disc

supplied with the

injector.



Enter the 4 digit

Confirmation Code

from the injector.



Select the

appropriate response

to the warning

message.



Click OK on the

Attention box.



The serial number of

the replacement

injector should now

show on the list.
