Insulin Injection

for Children

There are six easy steps to giving your child insulin.

1. Pinch the skin to create a small skin fold and pull upward.

2. Wipe the skin with alcohol wipe, allow to dry

3. Insert the needle at a 90-degree angle into the skin; push down on the plunger to inject the insulin.

4. Leave the needle in the skin for at least 10 seconds after the thumb button plunger is fully pressed down

5. Remove needle from skin, and release

6. Dispose of the used needle into the safety container.

1. Back of arms

2. Abdomen

3. Thighs

Below is a picture of the injection sites. Be sure to change sites with each injection. It helps to keep a diary or a journal to track each injection site.
