What is STEM?What is STEM?

STEM is a career cluster of occupations that focuses on:

SScience, TTechnology, EEngineering & MMathematics

STEMworks INDIANA is a comprehensive pipeline initiative that will create educational and occupational opportunities for two important audiences – dislocated

workers and disadvantaged students. This program will help develop tools so these audiences may identify their

occupational interests, hone in on appropriate educational pathways, transform into STEM career candidates and

become employed in gateway STEM jobs.

STEMworks INDIANA InitiativeSTEMworks INDIANA Initiativeo The long-term key to continued U.S. competitiveness and growth in the

global economic environment is to supply STEMSTEM workers to incorporate knowledge and skills into new processes, products, and services.

o STEMworks INDIANA was created to help broaden the talent pool of the current and future Indiana STEM workforce by offering educational and training opportunities to receive a post-secondary degree, industry-recognized license, certificate or credential that will lead to job placement in a STEM occupation.

o STEMworks INDIANA will aid Central Indiana’s growing industries by exposing the young people to STEM occupations and focusing on updating skills of dislocated workers. STEMworks INDIANA will utilize current certificate and associate’s degree programs, including accelerated programs in STEM disciplines and college-level courses for high school students, to provide training and ongoing support to ensure participant success and placement in gateway jobs.
