Chart to show main types of cyber crime in the UK
The chart shows us that the main types of cyber crime in the UK are through viruses, employee abuse of the internet service privileges, followed by unauthorised access by insiders.
Viruses Viruses are designed to harm your computer and steal
private information. There are two common types of viruses: Worm Trojan horse
Spyware Software that has been scripted to keep a log of private
information. This can be commonly be known as a key logger.
Spyware is similar to a Trojan horse in that users don’t mean to install the product.
Usually found on websites that say “You are a winner click here”
Spam/Email Viruses can be found in email Email is used to mail people with a click of a mouse and
saves paper and costs nothing. Spam can flood and Email with unwanted data such as: Adverts Fake winnings Useless tool bars
Phishing Phishing is an attempt to steal personal and financial
information. They will use methods such as fake websites of the real
ones. Phishing normally happens when entering information on the
hackers website.
Firewalls Firewalls stop unwanted files from invading your computers
and the network you are on. Adds a filter of what computers can connect to you. Keeps you safe on the internet.
Anti-Virus Software There is anti virus which stops malware and also comes with
a firewall which ensures safe browsing. Will keep you safe browsing on the internet. Stops a virus attack from attacking your computer
Pop-Up Blockers A Pop-up is something that can lurk in a website and will
popup in a window claiming some bizarre remark such as “You Won” or “Your computer is slow click this to fix”.
Fear not there is help; pop-up blockers exist! There is free software that can stop this which will stop this
from popping up and delete it when it opens.
How to keep secure Physical security: Is one of the first areas to look at. Hacking from the outsider is a danger but more damage can be
done within a system. The servers of a large area network (LAN) are one such point.
Type of Physical security:• Locks• Visitors passes • Security guards• Alarms• Sign in/Sign out systems
