Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to English II. The goal in this course is to improve our four english language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) through the use of tenses, adverbs of quantity, Wh questions, adjectives, modal verbs, infinitives and gerunds to serve specific functions, such as exchanging personal information, talk about public transportation problems in your city, life style changes, food preferences, describing vacation plans, making requests and complains, describing technology and giving suggestions. This course has been tailored and contextualized for maximum learning and (student’s) enjoyment, to make the teaching easier – learning process and to reach the B2 level as suggested by the common European framework. To accomplish this requirement, students have to get approximately 500 points approximately in the TOEFL exam.

Certification Conocimiento previo The common European Framework of references for languages: Learning, teaching and assessment suggests that for a B2 level the learner needs to be able to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. The learner can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions andbriefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Course structure

English II consists of eight topics; each unit has a different topic to be covered in two weeks. It also contains a great number of interactive activities such as listening, speaking, reading and writing to improve the English language skills and to prepare students for the Unit evaluation.

The purpose of this unit, is to talk about events in the past using the past tense, as well as means of transport, comparative and evaluation of adjectives, in addition by using them we can make some changes in our lives.

Unit 2. My Best Vacation.

In this topic we will talk about houses and apartments, lifestyle changes and express wishes by learning the parts of a house and apartment and the different features between them, such as size, parking space, price, privacy and wishes vocabulary. We will work with positive and negative adjectives and nouns to describe the houses and apartments and the different changes and wishes people have about their lives.

Unit 3. Innovation in Technology.

We will talk about food, recipes, instructions, and cooking methods by learning food vocabulary such as, kinds of meat, fish/seafood, vegetables, fruit and spices. Using simple past, present perfect and sequence adverbs we will also talk about our food experiences, ethnic dishes and the different cooking method.
