Eurasian LynxThe Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) is a medium-sized cat native to Siberia, Central, East, and Southern
Asia, North, Central and Eastern Europe. The Eurasian lynx is the largest lynx species,
ranging in length from 80 to 130 cm and standing 60–75 cm at the shoulder. The tail measures 11 to 24.5 cm in length. Males usually weigh from 18 to
30 kg and females weigh 8 to 21 kg.The main threats to the Eurasian lynx are
excessive hunting, for their fur and for preventing their predation on domestic animals (especially sheep and goats) and the destruction of their
natural habitat. The lynx is endangered in Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia, where it has disappeared from
many areas.
DeforestationRomania's forest land, particularly in the
Carpathian mountain range, considered the "lung" of the region, has been drastically reduced since 1989 and is threatened to
disappear due to illegal logging, illegal forest restitution and Endangered afforestation
legislation. The Carpathian mountain system, which winds up Romanian territory from the
southwest to the north, had about 8.5 million hectares of forest after the fall of the
Communist dictatorship in December 1989, the equivalent of 38 percent of the area of
Romania.
