Eurasian Lynx The Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) is a medium- sized cat native to Siberia, Central, East, and Southern Asia, North, Central and Eastern Europe. The Eurasian lynx is the largest lynx species, ranging in length from 80 to 130 cm and standing 60–75 cm at the shoulder. The tail measures 11 to 24.5 cm in length. Males usually weigh from 18 to 30 kg and females weigh 8 to 21 kg. The main threats to the Eurasian lynx are excessive hunting, for their fur and for preventing their predation on domestic animals (especially sheep and goats) and the destruction of their natural habitat. DeforestationRomania's forest land, particularly in the

Carpathian mountain range, considered the "lung" of the region, has been drastically reduced since 1989 and is threatened to

disappear due to illegal logging, illegal forest restitution and Endangered afforestation

legislation. The Carpathian mountain system, which winds up Romanian territory from the

southwest to the north, had about 8.5 million hectares of forest after the fall of the

Communist dictatorship in December 1989, the equivalent of 38 percent of the area of

Romania.
