6.3. WHAT ARE VERBS?A verb is a "doing" word. A verb can express:
A physical action(e.g., to swim, to write, to climb). A mental action(e.g., to think, to guess, to consider). A state of being(e.g., to be, to exist, to appear).
The verbs that express a state of being take a little practice to spot, but, actually, they are the most common. The mostcommon verb is the verb to be.
Los verbos que expresan un estado de ser a veces pueden ser difciles de detectar, pero, en realidad, son los mscomunes. El verbo ms comn es el verbo ser. Verbo TO BE.

6. Phrasal VerbA phrasal verb is a verb made up of more than one word (usually two words). Estformado por dos palabras, un verbo principal y una preposicin o partcula. No debemosfiarnos del significado del verbo principal al que estamos acostumbrados cuando va solo, porque al ponerle la preposicin cambia completamente de significado.
A phrasal verb has a main verb and another word (either aprepositionor a particle). Thephrasal verb usually has a meaning different to the main verb. For example:
A burglar will often break a window to break in. Un ladrn normalmenteromper una ventana para entrar (sin permiso)
(Here, the phrasal verb break inmeans to enter illegally, which is different to break.)
If you drop the baton the team will drop backto last place.
(Here, the phrasal verb drop backmeans to fall behind, which is different to drop.)
