North Americans dont need to worry about vitamin D .

Its time to stop worrying about your vitamin D intake if you live in the USA orCanada, according to a report published on Tuesday. The report, put together bythe USA Institute of Medicine, was commissioned by the countries' governments

partly to clarify the supposed benefits of huge doses of vitamin D.The reportconfirmed the importance of calcium and vitamin D in maintaining bone health.Health claims suggesting high doses of vitamin D can prevent cancer and diabetes remain unproven.Most people under 70 need no more than 600 international units of vitamin D dayamount. The average American and Canadian gets from a normal diet andexposure to sunlight, the authors say. The report contradicts findings in 2006from Craig Garland at the University of California, San Diego, and colleagues,suggesting that if all USA adults received units of vitamin D a day, 28,000 peoplewould be saved from colorectal cancer every year.
