The following pages will guide your work towards the end ofour objective which is solving a problem that you will have tounderstand using strategies you already have and strategies youwill learn throughout this sequence of activities.

These guidelines are focused on the development of readingcomprehension and written production. Through some activitiesrelated to this area of study, you will be able to successfullydevelop the thematic content and linguistic objective of theselearning sessions.

Before beginning our activities, take a look at the following table thatexplains the learning objectives for this unit. It’s very important that youknow what is expected from you at the end of these activities. Presentation and comprehension of thesituation (problem).

Read the following situation:

The owner of the famous delicatessen “Tasty Ham”, Mr. Juan, wantsto optimize the attention of his customers by using an electronic

display that shows the attention number. Besides, Mr. Juan wantsto increase his sales by implementing a better advertising of hisproducts through an electronic display which shows messagescontaining offers of his products. The purpose of this display is toattract more customers.In order to do this, Mr. Juan must consult with the telecommuni-cations technician. Mr. Juan requests the technician to install thedisplay inside his delicatessen and to explain how the led displaysign works for him to control it. Mr. Juan needs to know how theelectronic sign works and what advantages it might have for hisdelicatessen.

What are Led DisplaysThe variable message displays with LED technology are electronic tools for communication, controlled by a CPU. These devices are able to memorize anddozens of informative and advertising messages, in several formats and ditiming.In the last few years the world of LED visualization faced an impressive revotechnology made available even for small and medium businesses a fundamadvertising tool, able to visualize high impact promotional messages.

LED technology improved drastically in the past decades. Particularly in th

years new production techniques have been developed to increase LEDs’ briand reduce the decay. All these innovations allow LED bright signs to keep fufor over 10 years without changing the LEDs.

What are the advantages of led displays?• Variable message displays can memorize up to 100 informative and promo

messages, easy to schedule.• Luminous notice boards can transmit variable messages while customers p

allowing a higher exibility in communication with the public.• The great exibility of bright display allows to advertise products and spec

and at the same time to broadcast information of public interest.• The effectiveness of a variable message sign is not affected by the space asurface available as the traditional static signs.

• Luminous boards act as a street vendor, attracting potential customers and lthem into the shop.

• It is possible to change the messages visualized in case it is necessary to pinformation to a specic category of customers. This function can result veduring events and shows to offer a service of public interest.

• In some models of LED bright boards it is possible to broadcast logos aimages, in the order and with the timing dened by the shop’s owner.

These days creating something of your own is the “in” thing to do. Itis both creative and economic. Get your message across in a bright,vibrant way. Learn how to make your own LED sign for display. This signis for indoor use only as the LED strips are not waterproof.

1. Step 1Connect the 12v AC Adapter to the LED Strip Power Connector.Then connect the LED Strip Power Connector to the rst FlatheadLED Strip.

2. Step 2Two LED strips connected using a LED Strip Power ConnectorBend the rst strip as your project requires. Using the LED StripMounting Brackets, mount the strip to the mounting board of yourchoice. Use mounting brackets as needed.

3. Step 3Connect the LED Strip Interconnect to the rst LED Strip then tothe second LED Strip. Continue to bend the strips as your projectrequires using the LED Strip Interconnect to connect each strip toone another. Remember to use the LED Strip Mounting Brackets tohold the strips in place as you see t.
