KOBA CIRCLE,GUJARATAHMEDABAD, GUJARAT,INDIA | INFRASTRUCTURE/TRANSPORTATION : RAIL

The first station from Ahmedabad towards Gandhinagar, Koba Circle is rightly visualized as the Gateway to Gandhinagar. Presently, only a vast stretch of agricultural land, Koba Circle holds tremendous architectural opportunity to be developed as a marvel for the vibrant Gujarat.

As foreseen by the architects, Koba Circle demanded attention at city-level master planning. By carefully planning and detail-ing each layer, the architects have not only meticulously integrated each layer of city planning to the other but also at an envi-ronmental level, evolved a master plan which has its sustainability right in place.

As a result the proposed development is not just a super-imposed layer to the existing landscape, but a harmony of multiple strata.

The gateway to the modern capital of Gujarat, Koba Circle has been designed to give the city its architectural landmark. The station at Koba circle derives inspira-tion from the Gandhian philosophy and principles, which form the undercurrent to the city’s many existing tangible and non-tangible layers. The station reprising to form a lotus is a symbol of peace, prosperity and non-violence, the fundamentals of Gandhian philosophy. Iconic and modern, the station symbolizes development and growth.

Koba station falls on the main connecting vehicular artery linking Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar. It is located above an intersection of a road which goes to the air-port as well as to another state highway. Site surroundings are fast growing, so the ‘branded’ station will require a strong architectural expression of its own. This would be a very functional hub. Though it does not speak of direct intermodal activity between transit systems, significant transit traffic will be present so that people from Ahmedabad could have a superior facility for vehicular parking.

Potential for development of the station surroundings as a retail and commercial hub could be beneficial in terms of enhancing transit service. The station aims seamless intermodal connectivity between various facilities• Connectivity from the surrounding incoming and outgoing highway traffic.• Connection with the feeder line

VADAJ,GUJARATAHMEDABAD, GUJARAT,INDIA | INFRASTRUCTURE/TRANSPORTATION : RAIL

The elevated Vadaj Station intermodal program will link Metro to existing transit including a bus terminal and BRT system – es-tablishing seamless connectivity between transit modes. The requirement to develop the station as an intermodal hub is further supported by the footfall statistics. The study indicates 89,037 daily footfall in the year 2016, and a consistent growth with 1, 61,060 daily footfall by the year 2041.

The gateway to the modern capital of Gujarat, Koba Circle has been designed to give the city its architectural landmark. The station at Vadaj circle derives inspiration from the Gandhian philosophy and principles, which form the undercurrent to the city’s many existing tangible and non-tangible layers.

AEC,GUJARATAHMEDABAD, GUJARAT,INDIA | INFRASTRUCTURE/TRANSPORTATION : RAIL

The vehicular roadway below the Metro AEC station right-of-way is quite wide, spanning approximately 50m. Along the road-way, a BRT is operating within a center median. A service road is located at the edge of the right-of-way, along with a 3m pe-destrian spine. Intermodal connectivity must be established between the Metro station and BRT bus stop; in addition topedestrian connectivity from across the road up to the station. Renovating a portion so of the existing BRT station to accom-modate a pedestrian connector leading to the Metro station mezzanine should also be considered.

Creating the AEC Metro station as an intermodal facility is desirable and the multifunctional activities with respect to retail and commercial should be explored considering the elevated pedestrian connectivity from the other side of the road and the BRT stop.

• Seamless connectivity between the Metro station and BRT stop is essential• AEC being an important junction station requires seamless connectivity with both the undergroundand the elevated metro station. Also efficient planning is required to ensure seamlessPassenger transfer across various junction lines as per the phase-wise evolution of the station.• Connection with the feeder line is essential

AKSHARDHAM,GUJARATAHMEDABAD, GUJARAT,INDIA | INFRASTRUCTURE/TRANSPORTATION : RAIL

This is perhaps the concluding station or the first station of Gandhinagar, which is the gateway to the religious center of Ak-shardham. Akshardham has a global existence and a very dominant Indian cultural, religious and social philosophy. The pro-jected footfall would be more than 42,679 daily in the year 2016 and rapidly increases to 2,07,243 per day by 2041, which by itself indicates the importance of this Metro station. An important station it also projected to attract significant footfall making it one of the top footfall stations by 2041.• Connectivity to the Akshardham temple• Connectivity to commercial facilities located in the fast advancing Gandhinagar area.

PALDI,GUJARATAHMEDABAD, GUJARAT,INDIA | INFRASTRUCTURE/TRANSPORTATION : RAIL

The form of the metro station has been derived from nature’s form - of that of a shell. The form symbolises dynamism, move-ment and vibrancy. The massive doughnut-like central cut-out creates inlet for abundant natural light into the station. The overhead station is designed to create seamless connectivity to both the inter-city and the inter-state bus terminal. The hub is accessible to all transport users, ensuring integration between various transport parameters and traffic scenarios for safe and efficient movement of passengers. With an inter-state and inter-city bus station , Paldi would be transformed into a user-friendly Intermodal Hub.
