Speed Railway lineTecnimont is responsible for preliminary design, environmental impact evaluation, for final and detaileddesign and for the environmental monitoring. Tecnimonthas also dealt with the interface with the systems designer, the control and supervision of the design and construction(testing included). The first stretch, Turin-Novara, was

started in 2002 and, despite its technical and constructivecomplexity to keep open the motorway, the principal roadscutting across and the irrigation grid, was completed by theend of 2005 in time for the 2006 Torino Winter OlympicGames. The remaining connection with Milan is due to becompleted by 2009. Both lines respond to growing demandfor passengers and freight no more satisfied by the existing

    transportation grid.

Tecnimont has also dealtwith the interface with the systems designer, the control andsupervision of the design and construction (testing included).Over 80% of the line runs in tunnels under the Appennines.

Civil Engineering works have been completed within 2005.Major technical and constructive problems had to beovercome, such as: i) tunnel excavations within poor andvariable soil, ii) line construction fase safety, iii) landvariability, which required a big effort in landscaping andinfrastructural interventions within the areas crossed by theline.
