suffering. Disasters can be natural or man-made

Natural disasters can be caused by extreme weather events, climatic conditions or changes in the earth's crust. Natural disasters include cyclone, tornadoes, floods, droughts, bushfires, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

Man-made disasters are usually the result of accident, disease or war. They range from catastrophic events like major wars and nuclear accidents which destroy huge amounts of the environment and kill many people, to everyday occurrences like road accidents and crime.

Disasters are a personal tragedy for the people involved.
