• What’s changing?• New national Integrated Competencies (ICs) and Performance
Indicators (PIs)
• Who developed the ICs and PIs?• The Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice (PDEP)
comprised of 3 equal national partners:• Educators
• Professional association (Dietitians of Canada)
• Regulators (the Alliance)
• When?• Drafted by a Working Group and piloted in 2010 /11• Approved across Canada in early 2012

programs• Accreditors – as the minimal standard for program accreditation• Regulators – as the baseline for dietetic registration in Canada

and registration

3. Consent to Treatment•What?
• Practice Guideline produced by the Quality Assurance Committee• Complements other legislation (links are on the CDBC Home Page)
•Who for?• All RDs who work with clients/patients
•Why need consent for dietetic services?• Required by law• An integral part of health care• Communication allows for explanations, questions and an informed
decision:• give consent• not consent, or • revoke consent

• Considerations for obtaining consent:• Capacity for making an informed decision• Communication style used• Client/patient’s age• Consent may be given in a variety of ways
• When obtained?• Admission form in a health care facility provides adequate consent for
most dietetic services• Revisit consent If dietetic care changes or there’s a change in consent
status
• Where recorded?• On client/patient record – in writing, check box, etc
