Common Substrates

BRICK & BLOCK _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Adhesion Requirements: If brick/blocks are smooth faced and have very little or excessive absorption rates, ROCKCOTE

Keycote must be used. Surface Preparation: Substrate must be clean and free of dust, dirt, oil, salt, mould, or any other contamination.

Substrate must be wet down to assist with correct cement hydration and bonding. Application of ROCKCOTE Quick Render may proceed once the “shine” has gone off the wall. Before applying any coatings, please ensure the surface contains no more than 15% moisture (WME). Important: If total thickness of coating system is to exceed 10mm, and is to be less than 30mm, use Quick Render

PM100 High Build as a base coat prior to the application of Quick Render. For coating systems greater than 30mm, contact ROCKCOTE Technical Department. ROCKCOTE recommends that on large broad wall areas, ROCKCOTE Masonry Primer Hi Op be applied prior to the application of Armour to ensure uniform coverage and colour consistency. Please read all relevant Technical Data Sheets & Safety Data Sheets prior to product use.

AAC PANEL (75MM) _________________________________________________________________________________________________

Surface Preparation: Substrate must be clean and free of dust, dirt, oil, salt, mould or any other contamination.

Patch any deep holes or imperfections with ROCKCOTE Patch & Prep. If a greater working time is required the surface can be sealed with ROCKCOTE Rockbond 27 before commencing application of Step 1 in order to control absorption and improve adhesion and minimise joint grinning. Before applying any coatings, please ensure the surface contains no more than 15% moisture (WME). Important: These systems are dependant on correct and straight installation of the cladding and the level of finish

required. If walls require straightening apply ROCKCOTE Rockbond 27, then a base coat of ROCKCOTE Quick Render FR (Fibre Reinforced) to achieve desired level (this can replace the Polymer Render in Step 1).

AAC PANEL (50MM) _________________________________________________________________________________________________

AAC panels must be installed strictly as per manufacturer’s specifications.

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED/COATED MASONRY _________________________________________________________________________________________________

Adhesion Requirements: Check the adhesion of the existing coating on every wall and at least every 3 metres over the

proposed application areas. Glossy and smooth surfaces should be sanded with a coarse grit sanding paper to ensure a key for satisfactory adhesion. If the old paint is oxidized or chalky apply an alkali-resistant, penetrating primer /sealer. Surface Preparation: Remove all loose materials. Any loose or peeling paint should be scraped back to a firm and sound

substrate to leave surfaces clean and free of dust, oil, dirt, mould or any other contamination. Apply ROCKCOTE Keycote to entire surface to a thickness of 1-2mm leaving surface rough to provide suitable key for render application and to provide optimum adhesion for ROCKCOTE Quick Render. Before applying any coatings, please ensure the surface contains no more than 15% moisture (WME). ROCKCOTE Natural Materials Systems Guide

ROCKCOTE understands that everyone wants and expects different things from their architectural coatings. This systems guide helps assist property owners, applicators, builders and architects choose a traditional ROCKCOTE Natural Materials product to use on their project with consideration given to substrate, situation and finish. This document is designed to be used as a guide. If you need any further help, contact ROCKCOTE on 1300 736 668 or email at [email protected].

The question of “which system best suits the purpose” is dependent upon a number of factors:

1. Location 2. Environment 3. Substrate 4. Construction Type (Residential, Commercial or High Rise) 5. Green Rating (i.e. use of environmentally friendly materials) 6. Skills and experience of the applicator 7. Expectations of the client

ROCKCOTE is recognised for manufacturing high quality, consistent and reliable products. Our products meet all government statutory warranty responsibilities. The application of ROCKCOTE Natural Materials is a highly skilled process that requires experience working with natural building products and systems. It is the responsibility of the applicator to select the right product and system for the job and ensure correct installation and application according to the above and other relevant criteria. We recommend that project managers and clients appoint only applicators experienced in the relevant ROCKCOTE Natural Material in situations and with desired aesthetics similar to the project at hand. Colour Disclaimer

Being traditional natural products, ROCKCOTE Natural Materials will display their natural patina over time in different ways. If colour consistency and accuracy is required, customers should select a painted finish or one from ROCKCOTE’s extensive Coloured Render range instead. Many of the ROCKCOTE Natural Materials can be tinted with oxides, however colour consistency and accuracy will depend on a large variety of factors such as dispersing time, oxide type and drying times and polishing and burnishing techniques. ROCKCOTE strongly recommends a colour and finish sample be provided for sign off by the selected applicator or artisan prior to the start of each project. Always speak to ROCKCOTE first before deviating from this guide.

INDEMNITY ROCKCOTE Enterprises Pty Ltd will not accept responsibility for any misuse of this product or if not applied by a skilled and experienced applicator and in accordance with our technical specifications. Due to our policy of continuing product improvement ROCKCOTE Enterprises Pty Ltd reserves the right to change these specifications without further notice.

PAINTED RENDER __________________________________________________________________________________________

Adhesion requirements: Check the adhesion of the existing coating on every wall and at least three metres over

the proposed application areas. Glossy and smooth surfaces should be sanded with a coarse grit sand paper to ensure a key for satisfactory adhesion. If the old paint is oxidised or chalky, apply an alkali-resistant, penetrating primer/sealer. Surface Preparation: Remove all loose materials. Any loose or peeling paint should be scraped back to a firm

and sound substrate to leave surfaces clean and free of dust, oil, dirt, salt, mould, or any other contamination. Apply the first step to entire surface to a thickness of 2mm leaving surface rough to provide a suitable key for application of the 2nd step. Considerations: Care must be taken, not to exceed the maximum film build recommendations, or cracking of the

dried film may occur. Important: The application of ROCKCOTE Natural Materials is a highly skilled process that requires experience

working with natural building products and systems. It is the responsibility of the applicator to select the right materials for the job and ensure correct installation and application according to the guidelines in the ROCKCOTE Natural Materials Systems Guide and the attached specification.
