Congratulations and thank you for participating in the 2019 Midwest Plains Regional for the 14U Softball Tournament, hosted by Columbus Girls Softball Association in Columbus, Kansas.

Columbus Girls Softball League and their families would like to welcome your state, team, families and fans to Columbus, Kansas. It is an honor and a privilege to have you in our community and we hope it will be a memorable and rewarding experience.

Attached to this Welcome letter is the tournament schedule of events, hotel information, picnic and opening ceremony information and a few other things to expect during the Midwest Plains Regional Tournament.

Team check-in is on Friday July 5. Team members, managers and coaches, wearing their jerseys, are required to attend at their scheduled check-in time. On Friday July 5, the Tournament Picnic will be at 2pm and the Opening Ceremonies will be at 3pm with games beginning @ 4:00 pm.

Both the 1st & 2nd place teams qualify for the World Series held July 15-24 in Jensen Beach, Florida.

Tournament check-in will be located at Columbus Community Fields on the east side of the concession stand. Times and locations are subject to change. Please confirm your check-in time with the Regional Softball Commissioner or the Tournament Director upon your qualification for the tournament. Please be sure to have your team tournament credential binder and coaches contact information at this time.

Meet Community Host A local community member will be assigned to each team as their host. The host will meet with their team at the team check-in time. After check-in they will present the players with welcome packets and familiarize the team, parents and fans with our community and surrounding area answering any questions they may have. The team host will exchange phone numbers with the team manager and be available throughout the tournament to make suggestions and answer questions.

MEMO TO REGIONAL TOURNAMENT MANAGERS

1. Credential Packet: Double-check your credential packet. Be sure you have all required documents.

2. Managers Contact Information: You will need to provide contact numbers for all coaches and managers at check-in. IF there are changes to the schedule for games, we will contact you at the numbers you provided. We are NOT responsible if you do not answer and are late for games.

3. Team Check-In: Make sure you arrive at the check-in site at your designated time as a complete team. Teams are required to arrive and depart as a complete group. There will be NO exceptions, unless there has been prior approval from the Regional Commissioner. All such requests must be fully documented. Any player not excused and missing from check-in will not be allowed to participate in the tournament.

4. Picnic & Coaches Meeting: The team, manager and coaches are required to attend the welcoming picnic. Managers and coaches are required to attend the "Coaches & Officials Meeting" in which tournament rules will be discussed.

5. Tournament Questions: Any questions regarding any aspect of the tournament should be directed to the task force member in charge.

6. Coaches Attire: Remember that managers and coaches shall wear uniforms consistent with the Babe Ruth Champion Teams which must include the "2019 35th Year" Babe Ruth Softball patch on the left shoulder.

7. Sportsmanship: Good sportsmanship makes the game enjoyable for everyone. Anyone acting in an unsportsmanlike manner will be removed from the playing fields and facilities immediately.

8. Team Meeting: Be sure to have a team meeting with all players and parents to read through the Player's Guide as a team! Be sure they know what is expected of them as team members and fans.

IMPORTANT NOTES & TIMES


1. Tournament Picnic: ALL coaches, managers and players MUST attend the picnic at Columbus Community Fields on Friday, July 5th. Families are welcome to join as well for no charge. The menu will include: hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and water/soda.

2. Coaches and Officials Meeting: ALL officials, coaches, managers, state task force and members of the tournament committee are REQUIRED to attend. The meeting will be held at Field #2 of the Columbus Community Fields at the completion of the Player & Coaches Meeting.

3. Opening Ceremonies: ALL coaches, managers and players MUST attend Opening Ceremonies in full uniform as there will be team pictures, state pictures and a picture taken of all teams together as one Midwest Plains Region at this time. Following Opening Ceremonies a Babe Ruth Softball Midwest Plains Regional background banner will be available for parents and teams to take individual or team pictures.

4. Concessions: Hot and cold concessions will be available before, during and after all games at the ballpark. Bring some extra spending money and enjoy a snack during the game. Water coolers will be provided in the dugouts for players, coaches and managers only. COOLERS, PICNIC BASKETS, OUTSIDE FOOD OR ALCOHOL WILL NOT BE

ALLOWED IN THE COLUMBUS COMMUNITY FIELDS COMPLEX.

5. Team Awards: Participation certificates will be presented to all managers, coaches and players. A team plaque and championship banner will be awarded to the champion, and a runner-up plaque to the Runner-up team. Championship Rings will be awarded to the 1st place team and individual medals will be awarded to the Runner-up team. The Colleen & Norm Travis Team Sportsmanship and accompanying individual pins, and the Commissioner's award will also be presented. ALL awards will be presented during closing ceremonies on Sunday, July 7.

6. Tournament T-Shirts: Our local apparel and spiritwear store, Team Threads, will have a booth set up at the Columbus Community Fields Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6 with the official 2019 Midwest Plains Regional Championship shirt available to purchase. Team Threads will also have many other items available for purchase at this time. Please be sure you check out their booth early Saturday.

7. Individual Awards: SHE (Sportsmanship, Hustle and Enthusiasm) pins will be awarded

(1 per team) after each game.


8. BSN Uniform Fitting: One uniform per rostered player and coach will be provided by Babe Ruth League for the Regional Champions of all age groups who advance to the World Series. Fitting time will be scheduled during check-in of the Regional Tournament for a BSN Sporting uniform supplier representative to allow the players and coaches to be sized. This way, you will have your uniforms when you arrive at the World Series. There will be several options, including the ability for the non-Regional winners, who advance to the World Series, to purchase uniforms; and for World Series advancing teams to purchase a second uniform, similar to "home and away" uniforms.

What to Expect at Columbus Community Fields: Columbus Community Fields Complex has been built and maintained by donors and volunteers. The complex consists of a T-ball field, Cal Ripken baseball Volunteer Field, Sr Babe Ruth baseball Bomber Field and two softball fields: Rockette Field and Titan Field . Rockette Field consists of a 200-ft outfield fence, Ag-lime surface infield, large block dugouts and covered bleachers. Titan Field consists of a 200-ft outfield fence, Aglime surface infield, large dugouts with metal bleachers. Fans may set in the covered bleachers of Rockette field, set up lawn chairs along the fence or park along the outfield fence of both fields. There is room for canopies in between fields and along the outfield fence as well. The complex also provides a centrally located playground area, restrooms and plenty of parking. Teams may warm up on the t-ball field, Volunteer Field or Titan Field if it is not being used for the day. There are also 3 batting cages available throughout the complex for teams to warm-up.

TIME SENSITIVE INFORMATION 1. TEAM PICTURES: Please email your team pictures ASAP (by end of the day June 30)

with player names in the order they appear in the picture to the Tournament Directors. If you do not receive a reply email within an hour, please contact one of the cotournament directors via phone call.

2. Souvenirs: Regional Shirts ($20) and Programs ($3) will be available on-site Friday and Saturday.

3. Pre-Game Information: Home team shall use the third base dugout and visitors shall use the first base dugout. Be ready to play and available to turn line-ups into official scorekeepers 15 minutes prior to scheduled game time.

4. Gate Admission: Gate fees will be $3/adult and $2/children per day.

PLAYER INFORMATION


Officials of Babe Ruth League, Inc and the hard-working host city have made extensive efforts to make certain your stay will be pleasant and rewarding. Therefore, we shall expect that you absolutely cooperate with the following regulations pertaining to your actions during the tournament.

• Assistance: We want all players to thoroughly enjoy themselves, during the tournament. If you need any information or assistance, please contact your team manager immediately.

• Conduct: Your conduct must be above reproach on and off the field. Any misbehavior or misconduct could not only cause you disqualification from the tournament but could also disqualify your team as well.

• Schedule: Follow your team schedule at all times. Be at tournament games and special events on time. Be sure to check with your manager and Tournament Director whenever you wish to divert from the listed functions.

• Appearance: As champions we expect your dress to be neat. You may, of course, dress informally and comfortably. At all times, neatness and cleanliness of appearance is required.

• Uniforms: Each player on the same team shall wear a different number on their uniform. The "2019 35th Year" Babe Ruth Softball patch must be worn on each team member's left shirt sleeve in lieu of the normal Babe Ruth Softball emblem. For sleeveless uniforms, the shoulder emblem must be worn on the left front chest. For additional requirements see the attached Regional Uniform Requirements.

• Swimming: You must check with your team manager and/or coach prior to planning to go swimming particularly on game days.

• Flags/Banners: If your league or team has a banner or flag (or state flag) please arrange to bring it with you. We will request you to display it during the opening ceremonies.

• Housing: No host family housing will be provided for this tournament. • Managers/Coaches Uniforms: The manager and coaches must each have a matching

jersey which matches their players. Coaches jerseys do not need to contain a number. Coaches may wear "coach's shorts" as long as the coach's shorts are the same color, matches each other and are in general color coordination with the team colors. The division appropriate Official Shoulder Emblem must be worn on each coach and managers left shirt sleeve. Coaches must wear appropriate shoes, no sandals or opentoed shoes.

• Umpires: The umpires provided for this tournament have many years of experience working softball. They will enforce all rules and regulations covered in the Official Babe Ruth Softball Rule Book. Please treat them with respect at all times. Only the manager will be allowed to discuss and umpire's decision or any play of a controversial nature. The home plate umpire will be informed of the identity of each team's manager prior to the start of each game.

• Sportsmanship: Any player, manager, coach or fan acting in an unsportsmanlike manner will be removed from the playing field and facility immediately. Such behavior may also result in disqualification from the tournament.

• Action Photos: No photographers shall be permitted inside the playing fields, bullpens or dugouts. Media photographers shall obtain permission from the Tournament Director.

• Spending Money: Each player should bring enough money to potentially purchase a program, tournament shirt, concession items and other personal items that they might need.

• Say "Thank You": Players please take the time to say thank you to the host volunteers, who have given their time and gone out of their way to make players, coaches and families feel welcome at the tournament.

• Catcher's Gear: Catchers are required to wear a mask and helmet during warm-ups both before and during the game. Any other player used to warm up a pitcher either between innings or in the bullpen is required to wear and helmet and mask as well.

• New in 2019, the 1st and 3rd baseman and pitcher will be REQUIRED to wear a defensive mask while playing defense.

• Batting Helmets: An approved double ear flap batting helmet must be worn at bat, while running bases, in the on-deck circle and by any other player that might be coaching at first or third base. In addition, all bat persons must wear a batting helmet while on the playing field. The use of "caged helmets" is required for all Babe Ruth play.

• In the Dugouts and on the Field: Only players, managers, coaches and bat persons will be allowed in each team's dugout or on the field. Anyone in the dugout must be on a league's roster during the regular season and also included on the tournament roster. This does not include the bat person.

• Equipment: Bats, gloves, balls and other equipment must be kept in the dugout, in the proper place and never on the field. Discarding of bats, helmets, gloves or any other items in an unsportsmanlike manner can result in an ejection from the game.

• Host Team: Members of the Host Team are to be treated like all other competitors and are subject to all the same regulations as the other participating teams.
