A man went into the pet shop and told

them that he would be playing Long John

Silver in the local amateur dramatic society’s

version of the great classic, Treasure Island

and that he needed to buy a parrot to sit on

his shoulder.

“I don’t have any parrots at the moment,

but you wouldn’t want a real parrot for that.

It would squawk in all the wrong places,

poop on your shoulder and generally be a

nuisance. What you need is a stuffed parrot.

Just as realistic and easily controlled,” said

the owner.

“I’m not sure a stuffed parrot would be

okay,” said the customer. “I do want this

performance to be as realistic as possible.”

“I am sure a stuffed parrot would be

fine,” said the pet shop owner. “I have one

at home. I’ll bring it in and if you come back

on Thursday you can have it.”

“Sorry,” said the customer, “I can’t make

it on Thursday. That’s the day I’m having

my leg cut off.”

SOME SENIOR THOUGHTS

God grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to run intothe ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference. Now that I'm older (but refuse togrow up) here's what I've discovered:1. I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.2. My wild oats have turned into prunes and all-bran.3. I finally got my head together, and now my body is falling apart.4. Funny, I don't remember being absent-minded.5. Funny, I don't remember being absent-minded.6. If all is not lost, where is it?7. It is easier to get older than it is to get wiser.8. Some days, you're the dog; some days you're the hydrant.9. I wish the buck stopped here; I sure could use a few.10. It's hard to make a comeback when you haven't been anywhere.11. The only time the world beats a path to your door is when you're in the bathroom.12. If God wanted me to touch my toes, he'd have put them on my knees.13. When I'm finally holding all the cards, why does everyone want to play chess?14. It 's not hard to meet expenses . . .they're everywhere.15. The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.16. These days, I spend a lot of time thinking about the hereafter . . .I go somewhere to getsomething, and then wonder what I'm hereafter17. Funny, I don't remember being absent-minded.

A DEAD BATTERY

A few years ago the battery in my beat-up VW Beetle had died because I left thelights on overnight. I was in a hurry to getto work on time so I ran into the house toget my wife to give me a hand to start thecar. I told her to get into our second car, aprehistoric oversized gas guzzler, and use itto push my car fast enough to start it. Ipointed out to her that because the VW hadan automatic transmission, it needed to bepushed at least twenty kilometers an hourfor it to start.

She said fine, hopped into her car anddrove off.

I sat there fuming wondering what shecould be doing.

A minute passed by and when I saw herin the rear-view mirror coming at me atabout fifty, I realized that I should havebeen a bit clearer with my directions…

WILL IT WORK?

Are you tired of scrubbing your bathroomso frequently? A recent study reveals thatplant-filled bathrooms contain up to 60%less mold, mildew and bacteria than bath-rooms without plants.

TOP PLANT CHOICE: The peace lilyThe over-sized leaves soak up microscopicmold spores and carry them down theirroots, where they’re used for food. Fewerspores landing on your curtains and tilesmeans less cleaning for you. Peace liliesalso absorb chemical vapors from commonbathroom products.
