We beat the July heat and stayed active….
At Creekside our get-togethers,
activities, exercise, and other
festivities make summer one of
the most enjoyable times of the
year. Keeping cool and hydrated
during activities is important.
Experts tell us that as we age our
bodies can’t handle the heat like
they did when we were younger.
A senior body often doesn’t
detect the heat and will not begin
sweating until their body
temperature has skyrocketed.
What’s more, our body’s cooling
devices don’t operate as
efficiently as we age.
Together we can beat the heat
and still be active!
We did it!

August Birthdays
In astrology, those born between August 1–22 are Leo’s Lions. Lions are the “kings” of the zodiac: dramatic, ambitious, confident, and hard to resist. Those born between August 23–31 are Virgos. Detail-oriented Virgos have a deep sense of humanity, a trait that makes them careful, tender, and practical. Often, all that precision is put into the service of others.

Natural Relief for Arthritis Pain
P A G E 3
Take charge of your body…today!
Eat well. To stay as healthy as possible, give your body the best nourishment it needs. You can start making healthier food choices today. Instead of potato chips, reach for an apple or banana (always in the bistro).
Stay active. Regular exercise strengthens muscles that support the joints and improves flexibility and balance. To start, join in on morning exercises (see your Creekside calendar). Then add a stroll around the grounds or halls. Keep moving, stay active!
Take a break. Balance activity with periods of rest. Rest can help reduce inflammation. If you need to, take time out to relax your entire body by lying down for 15 minutes. Or allow a specific joint to rest. Letting yourself refresh mentally and physically can reduce arthritis pain and restore energy.
Keep squeezing. Instead of increasing hand joint pain, tackle it with increase flexibility and reducing stiffness. Continuous use of a “hand arthritis squeezer” will give you the assists you need. Need a squeezer? You can make one for free in August, see your activity calendar.

met her husband. She later moved to Florida and
today she resides in Tennessee near her daughter

She grew up enjoying Tom Jones music, while
planning and executing wonderful dinner parties.
Liz enjoys spending time with her two grandchildren.
Her favorite food: Root beer, French fries with malt
vinegar is a favorite and chocolate.
Liz’s proudest accomplishment: “Margaret” (her

Whoo Whoo am I? I love working at Creekside. I grew up in North Carolina where I married my husband of 20 years. He was a neighborhood and Dad approved! I am the proud Aunt of four. During my free time I enjoy my vegetable garden. We have a four-legged family member named “Harley”. Each day I chat with my best friend in North Carolina who is also my sister! Do you know who I am? (See my photo on the
back page.)
