nationalsocialeconomy(SE)supportcentre.Myroleinthegroupistoincreaseourcapacityandinvolvementinagriculture.Also,atthemoment,IaminvolvedinInterregprojectforagrotourism,wehavestartedaprojecttoformaDigitalinnovationhubforagriculture,firstofit’skindinCroatia,withinERASMUS+project,andweareforminganoperativegroupfortransferofknowledgefromuniversitiestoproducersinagriculture.IthinkofmyselfasanjungexpertwithalotmoretolearnsoIwillgladlyacceptanyadvicefromyouandgiveanyadvicetoyou.IamverygladthatIamabletopartoftheBONDprojectsinceit’salignedwhymygoalsforselfdevelopmentandthedevelopmentofagricultureinmyregion.

watershedoftheTisza,toincreasetheirfloodsecurityandenvironmentalsafety,topreserveandenrichtheecologicalvaluesoftheriverandtoprovideanadequatequalityoflifeforthepeopleofthisregion.Ourassociationhelpslocalproducersoftheriver’swatershedtoreachmarketsbyrunningthe‘LivingTisza’trademarksystem.ALTisamemberofthe(Hungarian)National Association of Interest Representations for Small-scale producers and serviceproviders.Ourorganizationisseekingalternativewaystoreviveruralcommunities,sincemostofthemareburdenedbyageingpopulationandlackofeconomicperspectivesinourcountry.Agoodopportunity for them could be to strengthen the networks between urban and ruralcommunities.Istudiedtheopportunitiesofcarefarmsandurbanfoodstrategies.Iwouldliketoget toknowbestpracticesof these, spread theirmessage inHungary,anduse them forfindingnewwaysofruraldevelopment.

AlexSchreinerIhaveabackgroundintheenvironmentalandsocialchangemovementandfromthisbackgroundtookthedirectionoffarming.IrunmarketgardenDeVoedselketen-asmallscalemarketgardenbasedonpermacultureprinciples.Wewanttoworkwith,notagainst,naturetoproducehealthyandtastyvegetables.Weworkwithaboxing-schememodel,inwhichwehavedirectcontactwithourcustomersandtrytoincludetheminthedecision-makingprocess.Wehaveano-tillpolicyandworkwithplant-basedfertiliseronlyandpoly-culturesinsteadofregularcrop-rotation.WiththeVoedselketenIwanttocreatepractisesandexperiencesotherfarmerscanfollowandapplytotheirownsituation.Partofthisisbeingpartofabiggermovement-bothlocallyandinternationally.OnalocalscaleI'mpartofaninformalgroupofmarketgardenerswhichaimstosupporteachotherbyorganisingby-monthlystudygroups,performingvarietytests,
andthecollectivepurchaseofplantingmaterial.OnanationallevelI'mpartofToekomstboeren(FutureFarmers),anassociationforfarmerswhoareexploringnewwaysoffarming-pioneersinnewmodelsandmethods,suchascommunitysupportedagriculture,permacultureandgrowingspecialbreedsandvarieties.Toekomstboerengivesthesefuturefarmersavoiceandsupportsthemintheirstruggle.Toekomstboerenfocusesonsharingpositiveexamplesofalternativesolutions:tosupportourmembersinachievingtheirfarmingdreams,andtoinspireotherstodothesame.

I’mLauraTarrafaandI’m26yearsold.I’mfromaruralvillageinthenorthofPortugalwhereagriculturepredominates.IstudiedEnvironmentalEngineeringattheUniversityofCoimbraandnowI’mworkinginConfederaçãoNacionaldaAgricultura-CNA,Portugal,assumingtasksinenvironmentalarea(example:NacionalStrategyforClimateChangeAdaptation)givingtechnicalsupporttoourorganization,localassociationsandfarmers.Also,I’mworkinginaprojectcalledInformarparaDesenvolver(InformtoDevelop)thataimstoorganizeinformationactionsinrural/farmersareasinPortugaltoinformfarmersaboutthemesthatareveryimportantfortheirdailywork(safetywithtractors,agriculturalequipmentandmachinery;shortagri-foodcircuits;localmarkets,CAPrules,agroecology,andothers).Theseactionsaredevelopedwithlocalfarmersassociations,whichareourpartners.Theprincipalproposeoftheprojectistocontactwithreality,makestrongerlinksbetweenfarmerstoabetterlocal,regionalandnationalorganizations.RecentlyIamparticipatingasaninternationalinvitedstudentatEscueladeAcciónCampesina,organizedbyPlataformaRural(Spain).Personally,Iliketogotothecinema,concertsandread.IthinkI’masociallover.Ilovetoknownewpeopleandnewplaces,understandthewayoflivingandthoughtsandlearnmore
aboutindividualandcommonlife.Ithinkthatistheonlywayforustobemoretolerant,understanding,solidaryandatooltobuildstrongerconnections.Iliketobeinvolvedinsocialorganizations,todiscussaboutpolitics,historyandsociety.
AnnaVejvodovaAnAgriculturebusinessadviserandYoungfarmercurrentlyreconstructingandrenovatingasmallfamilyfarmintheCzechRepublic.ThefarmwillspecialiseinorganicmilkproductionfromWaterBuffaloandproducingitsownbrandedproductsforexamplecheese,yogurtandicecreamsellingdirecttotheconsumer.AnnastudiedattheCzechAgriculturalUniversitybeforeshejoinedtheMinistryofAgriculture.AfterworkingontheCzechPresidencyoftheEuropeanUnionin2009AnnadecidedtostarttoworkindependentlyanddirectlywithawiderangeoffarmersandfarmingorganisationsinCzechRepublic.After6yearsofadvisingfarmersinCzechRepublicsheboughtsmallfarmandstartfarming.Annahasaninterestinsustainablefoodandfarmingandenvironmentallandmanagement.

Case studiesCS1: Norwegian Agricultural Co-operatives (Norsk Landbrukssamvirke)TodayNorwegianfarmershavecooperativesinallsectors.Theyaremainlyorganizedassingle-purposecooperatives.Startingwithsmalllocalcooperatives,throughincreasedcooperationbetweencooperatives,eachsectornowhasonenationalcooperativewithmembersfromacrossthecountry.NorwegianAgriculturalCo-operativeswasestablished1945asancooperativeumbrellaorganization.NACisownedandgoverendby17agriculturalcooperatives.Thereisagreatvarietyinbusinesseswithinthemembers.

CS2: Green Care («Inn på Tunet»)Originally,differenttermswereusedforthefarm'swelfareservices,suchasGreencare,Thefarmasapedagogicalresource,andLivingschool.“Intothecourtyard”(Innpåtunet)isnowbecomingthetermofchoiceinNorway,whileitstillwillbetermed“Greencare”inEnglish.“Greencare”referstoindividuallyadaptedandquality-assuredwelfareservicesonfarms.Theservicesshallstimulatecopingskills,developmentandwell-being.Farmsarepropertiesthatareusedforfarming,forestryorgardens.TheactivitiesofferedintheGreencareservicerelatetothefarmanditsdailylifeandoperations.TheuniqueaspectofGreencareisthatitusesthefarmasanarenaforwelfareservices.Thefarmshavephysicalfacilitiesthatlendthemselvestoadiversityofactivities,andalsohavesurroundingsthatcanprovidetheuserswithpositivestimuliandexperiences.InnpåtunetNorgeSA:Est.2015InnpåtunetNorgeSArepresentsGreencarefarmsalloverNorway.Theirgoalistoensurethememberseconomicsinterest,andensurethemembers’commoninterestsuchasdevelopmentofmaterials,strategy,billingsystemsandcontractswiththelocalauthorities.Theservicesthatthemembersprovidetargetawidespectrumofsectors,includingeducation,after-schoolcare,occupationaltraining,adaptedservicesformentalhealth.Themembersarerequiredtofollowthenationalregulationsfor“Innpåtunet”.
CS3: TINEEst.1881TINESAisNorway'slargestproducer,distributorandexporterofdairyproductswith11,400members(owners).TINE’spurposeistooperatefoodactivitiesonacooperativebasisandworktoensurethattheownersreceivethebestpossiblefinancialresultfromtheirmilkproduction,inadditiontosafeguardingtheowners’otherjointinterests.ThemilkfarmerswhoaremembersandsupplythemilkalsoownTINE.Infact,TINEhasatotalof11,400owners.Milkproducers,whoaremembersanddelivermilk,areTINE’sowners.Inacooperative,theownersreceivetheirshareoftheprofitsthroughthepaymentforthemilktheydeliver.EachmemberhasastakeinTINE.TINE’slong-termresultsandcompetitivenessarewhyTINEhasthesupportofthemilkproducers.TINErootsbacktothemid1800’swhenthefoundationwaslaidforamoderndairycompany.Atthestartofthecentury,anumberofcattlemenandcheesemakerswerebroughtfromSwitzerlandtoNorway.From1860increasedinterestindairyoperations,productionofbutterandclovecheese.Inthe1880s,severallocaldairyassociationswereorganised.Thetimebetweenthefirstandsecondworldwarwasdifficultforthedairyindustry.Profitabilitywaspoorandthefarmerscouldbarelycovertheirproductioncosts.Thedairiescompetedagainsteachotherinadestructiveway.Exportorganisationturnedouttobethesolution.HardfinancialtimesandsquabblesbetweentheproducersledtheNorwegianFarmers’Uniontoprepareaplanfororganisingthecountry’smilkproducers.Newlawswereadopted,makingcompetitionillegal,anddairyoperationsbecamemoretechnical.DuringWW2dairydeliveriesdeclined,buttherebuildingofthemilkproductionprogressedquickly.In1960,therewasanoverproductionofmilk.Theproducersinstalledcoolingfacilitiesandmilkwascollectedregularly.Thecartonreplacedglassbottles.Inthe1960sand1970s,thedairiesweremodernisedandstreamlined.Inthe1980s,thedairycooperativestartedorganisingitselftomeetthefuture.NorskeMeierier’sbylawswerechangedin1984.Previously,eachdairywasaseparatelegalentity.Now,theybecame18districtcompanies.Theyhad110productionfacilitiesbetweenthem.In2004TINEisdividedintotwodivisions.TINERåvarebecomesaseparatedepartmentinTINEBA,separatedfinanciallyandwithitsownadministrationinrelationtoTINEIndustri.TINERåvarewasestablishedin2004tocreateaclearadministrativeandfinancialdivisionbetweenrawmaterialshandlingandfurtherrefininginTINE.In2010theGeneralassemblyadoptsanewgroupstructure–onelegalentity.
CS4: NorsvinEst.1958Norsvinisaco-operativeownedbyNorwegianpigproducers.Norsvinisabreedingcompanywithresearch,innovationanddisseminationofgeneticimprovementasthecornerstonesofthecompany.NorsvinislocatedatHamarinNorwayandhasabout70employees.Norsvinisrenownedforitsinnovativeapproachtoimplementingnewtechnologiesandacontinuousfocusoncost-efficientpigproduction.Continuousandstrongproductimprovementwillenableclientstoachievesignificantaddedvalueintheirproduction.ThebreedingprogrammeofNorsvinisunique.Thecombinationofhigh-throughputphenotyping,large-scalecomputertomographyofboars,globalnucleusbreeding,massivegatheringofproductiondataandgenomicselectionwillaccelerategeneticprogressleadingtoinnovativeproductsandsolutionsthatbenefitthewholechainofporkproduction.ThroughtheirinternationalcompanyTopigsNorsvin,Norsvinhasbecomethe2ndlargestswinegeneticscompanyintheworld.

TheFarmersMarketNorway(Norwegian:BondensmarkedNorge)isanumbrellaorganisationforlocalunitsthatorganizesfarmer’smarketsinNorway.Farmer’sMarketNorwaywasestablishedin2010.Beforethis,itwasownedbyNorwegianAgriculturalCo-operatives,Hanen,Oikos–ØkologiskNorge,theNorwegianFarmersUnionandtheNorwegianFarmersandSmallholdersUnion.
