Chapter 1: Installing SunSystems in a stand-aloneenvironment

This installation guide describes a stand-alone installation of SunSystems 6.4.

If you are installing SunSystems over multiple tiers, then refer to the SunSystems 6.4 Multitier InstallationGuide.

If you are upgrading SunSystems 6.2 or 6.3, then refer to the SunSystems 6.4 Upgrade Guide.

Note: If you are upgrading SunSystems 6.4 to the latest patch set, then refer to the SunSystems 6.4Patch Set Installation Note. This is available with the patch set. The Installation Note contains importantinstructions which are not included in this Installation Guide.Note: The SunSystems 6.4 installer is English language only. Use the Language Deployer to addlanguages to, or to remove languages from a SunSystems installation.

Installing SunSystems for the first timeIf you are installing SunSystems for the first time, note that the servers on which Infor applications areinstalled should be member servers in a domain. They should be dedicated to the Infor applications. If not, then performance may be affected. The servers should not be:

• a primary or back-up domain controller, running Active Directory• a mail server running Exchange or other mail• a file or print server other than for SunSystems• a virtualization host server running Hyper-V, VMware, ESXi, or Citrix XenServer• an Intranet or Internet server, running Internet Information Server, Apache or similar, other than

for SunSystems• a Microsoft Small Business Server.

Note: If deploying on Microsoft Small Business Server, Infor software must be installed in dedicatedvirtual images and not on the host operating system. This is subject to the supporting softwareenvironment meeting the minimum software requirements. If performance issues arise, separationonto dedicated hardware may be necessary.

If a SunSystems component is installed on a computer (physical or virtual) included in the list, theinstallation cannot be supported. If you are unsure, check with your local support region for furtherclarification before deploying the configuration.

Download Microsoft ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server for Windows x64, for example x64\msodbcsql.msi. We recommend that you install this version or higher to ensure that security protocol TLS 1.2 issupported. SunSystems DeployAgent detects the highest version of ODBC driver installed and configuresSunSystems to use it.

Note: TLS 1.2 is supported by SunSystems. For security reasons, it is your responsibility to disablesecurity protocols TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 and earlier.

1 Open https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=50420

7 Specify details for the service account.

Note: Using the Local System as the service account is not recommended for normal stand-aloneenvironments. If it must be used, it should be used in a test environment or for demonstrationpurposes. We recommend that a single tier environment is configured using local, or domain, accounts for secure access.

Note: We do not recommend that Local System is used as the service account for productiondeployments. Instead, we recommend that you use local or domain accounts for secure access. There are limitations as to how Local System can be added to groups so you must disable trustedgroup membership. The special **UNPROTECTED** string is specified instead of a group name. This enables any process to act like a trusted SunSystems service. It exposes the possibility thata user with network access could change data using the identity and permissions of another user. Therefore, production systems must never be deployed this way. Local System must only be usedto test an installation, or for demonstration purposes.

8 Accept the default settings for SunSystems Application Tier Ports.

• Do not assume too much about the possible cause of the problem, or you might overlook anyevidence.

• Work carefully through the problem and ensure that you can duplicate it. Assemble the evidencein readiness to pass it on to a member of the technical support staff.

• Confirm if the problem happens in other applications, on other user’s machines, or only on onemachine.

• Do not assume anything; check plugs, connections and cables.

Support Knowledgebase on the Infor Support PortalThis knowledgebase is maintained by Infor Technical Support and contains helpful information regardingproblems that may be encountered by customers implementing SunSystems. It is important to searchby the SunSystems version number.

General installation problemsAn error message or unexpected software behaviour are indicators of an installation problem. Themost likely causes are:

• Insufficient user credentials• Prerequisites not complete or correctly installed• Incorrect installation settings• Incorrect access control such as network settings or folder permissions• Incorrectly set IP address• Changes made to the registry settings that are used by SunSystems• Insufficient account permissions for database access• Insufficient service account where the Log on as a service role is not set.

About the setup program

Background settings are specified by the user and validated by the setup program, during installation.Changing a setting after installation will cause errors and unexpected behaviour in SunSystems.

The condition of an error, or unexpected response to a request, is described in an error message. Tosave the error message text to a file, click Save As. A member of technical support can then analyzethee contents of the file.

After saving an error message, you are given the option to continue working in SunSystems, or toabort. If you choose to continue, SunSystems operates normally as far as possible; if the error is toosevere, it aborts automatically.
