Page 1: Influential Artists

Influential rock Artists often carry a rebel like attitude which portrays an intense music vibe. I have been looking at these characteristics so I can involve them in my music magazine,

‘RIOT!’. Before starting to go in to depth with my photo shoot, I need to make sure that I look at the fashion Trends

belonging to my target audience of: rockers, emos, goths and heavy metal lovers, so I can make sure that the people who

are going to model for me will have the right look.

Paramore

When looking at this image, you see that rocker vibe due to the intense facial expressions, with the narrowed eyes staring directly at the camera. The strong mid shot portrays an erect but careless body language as the boys slot their hands in to their pockets, this reflects a rebellious outlook which appeals to my target audience. The editing of the image, creates a dark cloud around the picture, demonstrating a mysterious and rough vibe.

The Dress Sense

When looking at Haley’s style of dress, you see a simple white T-shirt which suits her pale skin. However, her makeup consists of shadowed, eyes portraying a mysterious vibe which my target audience like, along with this, she has dark red lipstick which contrasts against her pale skin. She also has fiery red hair which makes her stand out and become unique. The males in the image have simple checked shirts or plain shirts in dark colours which contrasts against Haley and her look, making her stand out more in the group as she is the lead singer.

Marilyn Manson

When looking at this picture of Marilyn Manson, the close up focuses upon his unusual stare due to the abnormal eye. With his mouth open in disgust, and his eyes staring directly at the camera, he looks very curious but intimidating. His careless posture and strange outlook presents a highly anarchist appeal to my target audience of rockers and emos.

The Dress Sense

His formal clothing suggests his serious outlook on things, but with the continuous tattoos all over his arm, it reflects a careless view of peoples’, opinions. He also happens to have a chunky metal bracelet which has a dragon design on it, it looks cold and rough which reflects his taste as well as his attitude. Marilyn Manson has a ripped glove, this once again portrays his careless view of his own portrayal, this also demonstrates a rough side to him. Now, we come to his extreme outlook of make-up, the pale white face reflects his appeal to the gothic social tribe, this contrasts to his coal black lipstick, this looks deadly as does his ice cold blue eyes. When looking at his eye, there is that immediate thought of abnormality as it is definitely not human like, making him seem unique and original.

The Cure

This group shot of the cure is very dark and mysterious, this is due to the clear white background which contrasts against the band and their gothic look, enhancing their rough appeal to goths. With their awkward body language, having a variety of angles, the image looks abnormal and different, making the image stand out. With the lead singer’s hair puffed out dramatically, it looks really gothic and strange.

The Dress Sense

Having all the band members wear black, and only black, it empathises their gothic appeal, however, they also have a target audience of rockers because of their type of music, this is reflected through their drastic hair styles, hair puffing up with spiked ends. Having a numerous amount of tattoosportrays a rebellious view as well as an anarchist vibe which appeals to my target audience, of rockers and goths. Once again, this act also has a lot of make-up, with the pale faces, the stars look almost ghostly and fearsome, this contrasts against the bright lipstick and the dark eye liner worn by the deadly looking rock stars.

Slipknot

Here, we have a scary masquerade, with the numerous masked characters, we see no expression within their facial features, making them emotionless. This displays a hard, cool vibe because they are manly enough not to express their emotions. With the creative body language, we once again witness an awkward posture with different angles. Some, look as though they are mystical because their hands cast over the camera. The group also include a range of levels which makes the image look over crowded which empathises the trapped feeling of the picture.

The Dress Sense

When looking at this band, they look very original, this is because of their creative but horrific faces. Their access use of make-up make the rock group look over the top, and deadly. With some of the memberswearing a pale powder on their faces, we see that ghostly, gothic vibe which appeals to rockers and emos, who prefer Slipknot’s type of music. With all of the members of the group wearing coal black shirts, the band look deadly and lifeless, reinforcing that gothic appeal. Overall, this image is really sinister and dark due to its dark colour combinations.

Evanescence

Here, we have a strong stance of an independent rock star, Evanescence. However, the other edited features make the rock star seem dark and mysterious, for example, the black back ground blends into her hair, everything seems very dark and gothic. In addition to this, there is the electric thunder coming from the masthead, reinforcing that dominance we see in her, this contrasts perfectly with the background, making her name stand out more. The close up of Evanescence is very strong because the camera looks directly into her eyes which stare right back at the camera, once again showing her individual power.

The Dress Sense

When looking at what she is wearing, it is quite simple like most rock stars, in this case, wearing a black vest which portrays thatgothic vibe once again. They do this as the main focus is the face, she has clear light blue eyes which look as though she’s looking right through the camera. These eyes also look mysterious as they are very deep which forms curiosity. What seems to be different is that she doesn’t have a pale face, however, her intimidation factor is still there.

Linkin Park

This long shot of the rock group Linkin Park is very chilled because of the casual, but careless body language, for example, having their hands tucked into their pockets, this seems to be a popular pose among rock stars. The image is also a low shot, making the group seem as though they are more important, this creates an intimidation factor when looking at the image. The member at the end seems to put his body at an angle, looking away from the camera, reinforcing his powerful stance. However, most of the members look straight at the camera without fear, showing a form of dominance once again.

The Dress Sense

The group all seem to wear black clothing, from hoodies to leather jackets, these are very popular among teenagers, however, people wearing them are usually stereotyped as being trouble makers, concluding an anarchist audience. Their clothing also portrays a chilled outlook because of the casual jeans and the trainers, all of which are in dark depressing colours, reflecting a rocker rough vibe. The tone also seems to be mysterious with one of the members wearing a pair of sunglasses, so we are not able to see his expression, reflecting that chilled mood once again.

Conclusion

With this, I can show my models what way they can act, in order to portray the

right kind of vibe and attitude to represent an anarchist view as well as a rebellious vibe, they can also reflect this attitude through their fashion sense and what they wear, most likely wearing dark

and mysterious colours.
