1 WPHA Annual Meeting 2014 Influencing a Growing World 2

Despite the ongoing effects of an extreme drought, Cal-ifornia agriculture continues to lead the world in production and crop value. Much of this continued growth is directly tied to the technology and tool box of products and practices developed and provided to the West’s growers, nursery businesses, and consumer use sectors by WPHA member companies. Recognizing this import-ant fact, our Annual Meeting Planning Committee has selected as our theme “Influencing a Growing World." With drought and statewide elections being the driving topics of discussion this year, our business session will address those two important topics: How does water move in California and who makes those decisions, and what does the November election hold in store for California agriculture? Mr. John Powel Jr., president of the Coachella Valley Water District & Peter Rabbit Farms will welcome members to the business session. This year, WPHA will host a round-table discussion on California water supply and movement featuring Mr. Jason Peltier, chief deputy general manager, Westlands Water District; Mr. Ron Jacobsma, general manager, Friant Water Author-ity; and John Garner, Colusa County rice grower and a member of the Northern California Water Authority(NCWA) Board of Directors. Longtime political insider and columnist Mr. Dan Walters with the Sacramento Bee will provide a forecast to the November elections and what they mean to California. This year’s luncheon speaker will be Communications Consultant Ms. Joanna Schroeder, who will provide members valuable insight on how the organics industry has been successful in increasing market share. Her presentation, “Why Consumers Pay More for Organic Foods? Fear Sells and Marketers Know It,” should be an eye-opener for everyone. We encourage you to carefully review the meeting pack-et. In response to member feedback that more time would be appre-ciated by attendees to be able to meet with each other and plan for the future, and the positive feedback we received last year, WPHA is continuing its new annual meeting program format. More leisure time will be available, with activities that will include our traditional WPHA golf tournament, a hands-on gourmet cooking lesson with the JW Marriott Desert Spring head chefs, a tour of the Palm Springs Air Museum of Flying, and a tour of the late Elvis Presley's home – and of course our organized social events each evening. As always, we ask that WPHA members and guests refrain from planning or attending individual meetings during the official WPHA meeting events listed in the program. You will find ample free time for your important meetings.

Sincerely,

Scott Hushbeck, 2014 WPHA Chair
