– Primary hand hygiene agent
– Use multiple times between washingwith soap and water
– Located throughout the facility
• Soap and Water MUST be used:
– Before and after eating
– When your hands are visibly soiled(or contaminated with blood or body fluids)
– When caring for a patient with C.diff or diarrhea
– After personal toilet use

– Wash the exposed area immediately with soap and water.
– Identify the source of the exposure.
– Notify your supervisor immediately.

– HBV positive needle stick exposure: 6-30%
– HCV positive needle stick exposure: approximately 1.8%
– HIV exposure from a needle stick: 0.3% or 1 in 300
