“I honestly thank God for giving me the op-
portunity to be in the summer readiness
program. I had the chance to meet
amazing professors and classmates who
challenged me and believed in me.
Thanks to this program I made lots of
friends and I couldn’t imagine myself start-
ing off college without the program. I start-
ed off college with a 4.0 thanks to the clas-
ses and it gave me an edge over other
freshman that weren’t in the program. I
learned lots of values that I still apply
today. If you want to grow as a person and
meet amazing people then I highly encour-
age you to join an experience that can only
be felt once you have lived through it!”
- Joseph Oliveros - Gutierrez
SRP ‘17, Chaffey College Student Senator
“Joining the EOPS summer
readiness program helped me
become a better person by
experiencing college and being able to be
prepared for the future.”
- Rocio Castillo
SRP ‘17, Chaffey Student Government

Summer Readiness Program
The Summer Readiness Program (SRP) is
offered to EOPS eligible graduating high school
seniors from local high schools. The program’s
goal is to prepare underrepresented students
for the rigors of higher education through
participation in an instructional cohort
combined with motivational workshops.
Students enroll in two courses during
summer—Guidance 2: Essentials of Student
Success, and Sociology 33: Introduction to
Social Justice. SRP participants have a 94%
continuation rate in college for the fall
semester and 85%+ for the subsequent spring
semester.
The SRP benefits include text books, bus passes
or parking decals, food vouchers and
miscellaneous educational supplies. Students,
prior to the
beginning of their first semester, receive an
informational orientation and a Chaffey College
main campus tour.
Another purpose of the SRP is to familiarize
students with the college system and
encourage them to continue their education by
making use of the resources available at
Chaffey College.
SRP exposes these students to four- year
institutions by attending field trips to local
California State Universities (CSU), University of
California (UC) , as well as selected private
universities. Many of the SRP students are
excited after these trips, and motivated to
continue their education by transferring to a
university after Chaffey College.
"If you don't try then when will you
succeed?"
- Karen Aleman Bravo, SRP ‘17
