Romans 8:9-11
Dwell in you
Dwell = to occupy a house, reside, to inhabit
Indwelling of the Holy Spirit
Pt. 6
GodChristHoly Spirit
Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
2 commands = repent and be baptized2 promises = remission of sins and gift of Holy Spirit
Acts 3:19 “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,”
God Dwells in us 2 Cor. 6:16 “I will dwell in them” 1 John 4:12-15 “God abides in him”
Christ Dwells in us Eph. 3:16-17 “Christ may dwell in your hearts” Gal. 2:20 “Christ lives in me”
2 John 9 - “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.”
God and Christ do not dwell in us personally
God is in heavenChrist has ascended back to right hand of God
When the Holy Spirit dwells in Christians then God and Christ dwell in them.
1 Cor. 3:16-17 “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.”
Eph.5:19 “But be filled with the spirit: speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord:”
Col. 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
Indwelling of the Word is same as being filled with the sprit.
The Holy Spirit operates on our hearts through the word.
There is no direct operation of the Holy Spirit on anybody, whether saint or sinner !
The Holy Spirit dwells in us indirectly through the word!
Examples of conversion show that the Holy Spirit does not operate directly.
Acts 2 - Pentecost = they heard the word - Peter
Acts 8 - EunuchSpirit operated on the EunuchThrough the TruthPreached by Philip v. 35 “preached Jesus”
Not one example of conversion in which the sinner was directly touched by the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit always worked through the preaching of the word to men by men !
It is exactly the same way that He converts a sinner. It is through the truth - the word of God.
Not necessary for the Holy Spirit to operate directly for the sinner to be saved.
It is the blood of Christ which saves and not the Holy Spirit.
If the Holy Spirit worked independent of the word, then
there would be no need:
to have the Bible,
or to have missionaries go and preach the gospel,
because the Holy Spirit would reveal the message.
If the Holy Spirit indwells a Christian today and gives
him strength directly and apart from revelation then:
Either….
The doctrine of Impossibility of Apostasy is correct.
Or if the Christian sins the Holy Spirit has failed
A literal indwelling would mean INCARNATION:
Christ was deity in the flesh - that is “Incarnation” or
deity dwelling in a human body.
If the third person of the Godhead - the Holy Spirit -
dwells in us literally then He would be occupying a
human body and that would be Incarnation.

No ! Satan Quoted Scripture
Heb. 4:2 “For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.”
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” Gal.5:22-23
Jude 18 -19 “how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.”
The Holy Spirit dwells in us as we allow the work of the Holy Spirit - the truth in God’s word - to dwell in our life and influence us !
