Event Description: ISSDA, in association with Nickel Institute, conducted a workshop on “New Age Application of Stainless Steel in Architecture, Building and Construction” in Raintree hotel, Chennai . The current usage of SS in ABC sector in India is 6.7% of the total consumption and is estimated to reach 13% by 2022. The growth of the ABC sector in India will be much higher than the estimate because of the Government focus of the smart cities setting up across the country. As focus sector for increasing the consumption of SS in India is ABC segment, it is planned to conduct workshops in all the major cities to make all the stakeholders of ABC Industry aware of the usage and applications of SS in their domain. There was an overwhelming response from various organisations and participation were made by Architects, structural engineers, Government organizations, like Chennai Corporation, CMDA, PWD, ICF, Southern Railway, CMRC, AAI etc. Educational & Research institutes like, CSIR, IIT & School of Architecture & Planning. Stainless steel manufacturers like Jindal Stainless, SAIL SSP, Outokumpu and end product fabricators like L&T Construction, Salem Stainless Steel Suppliers Pvt Ltd, KONE elevators, Sreevatsa Stainless, Wittur Elevators were also present in this event. The response was more than expected with the number of participants exceeding 80.
