The Industry Mentoring Scheme at London College of Communication aims to encourage and support postgraduate students’ transition from education to industry. This voluntary scheme matches students of all disciplines with industry professionals to support their professional development as they enter the creative industries. Potential outcomes for mentees Work with your mentor to develop your future career pans Build contacts and professional relationships while studying Develop skills in presentation, applications and interviews, communication and teamwork Plan a practice, studio or business Build confidence Benefits for mentors Access to the LCC mentor network Skills development and CV enhancement Partnership with LCC Develop links with our vibrant community of students, alumni and staff Help students to reach their full potential Mentors and mentees will be eligible for one free evening training session designed to help you make the most of the scheme. Criteria for mentees A current LCC postgraduate student (taught or research) Able to create the necessary time in their schedule to meet a mentor face-to-face, or online via Skype, email or phone for one hour, once a month January – June 2020 Able to attend the training session on Wednesday 22 January 2020, 5.30 - 8.30pm at LCC. The Industry Mentoring Scheme at London College of Communication aims to encourage and support postgraduate students’ transition from education to industry. Tips for mentees• This is a unique opportunity to listen,

question, clarify, explore and act on careerideas and aspirations. Mentees should notrely on the mentor to make things happenfor them

• Mentees are proactive, take responsibilityand decide on actions to be taken duringthe mentoring relationship

• Matching is based on the industry thementee would like to work in with amentor that has relevant experience.However, the number of applicants forcertain career areas could be in highdemand therefore we cannot guarantee apreferred industry match

• Mentors do not have to be from the samepractice as the mentee but should besomeone that wants to know the mentee,offering time and knowledge of thecreative industries

• The mentoring process is different fromthat of schooling. Mentees should keepan open mind and seek to gain fromthe transferable skills of a mentor, theopportunity to use what the mentor knowsand has experience in order to helpthem grow and develop their practicethrough diversifying the application oftheir knowledge within a creative industrycontext

• Mentees should not limit themselves asgrowth often comes at the edge of thecomfort zone

• All mentees will be asked to feedbackon their experience of the scheme andprovide testimonials for use on thewebsite and intranet

Criteria for mentors• Be an UAL alumni or industry professional

working in the creative industries• Have an understanding of the issues

facing creative students entering theindustry

• Be able to create the necessary time intheir schedule to meet a mentee face-to-face, or online via Skype, email or phonefor one hour, once a month January – June2020

• Be able to attend a training session onTuesday 21 January 2020, 5.30 - 8.30pmat LCC.

• Sunday 2 December 2019 - Mentee applications close

• Sunday 2 December 2019 - Mentor applications close

• January 2020 - Successful applications announced

• Tuesday 21 January 2020 - Mentor Training (5.30pm-8.30pm at LCC)

• Wednesday 22 January 2020 - Mentee Training (6pm-8.30pm at LCC)

• Thursday 30 January 2020 - Meet your mentor Event (6pm-8pm at LCC)

• Scheme runs from January – June 2020• Thursday 30 April 2020 - Half way

review / round table event• Online evaluation – June 2020

The first meetings will be held in January 2020 and the scheme will be brought to a close in June 2020.
