Work at Height: “Work in any place, including a place at or below ground level; Obtaining access to or egress from such
a place while at work, except by a staircase in a permanent workplace, where, if measures required by the Regulations were not taken, a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury.”
WORK PERMIT In order ensure the innumerable hazardous jobs
to carried out safe it is require to take a permit as a work permit It is a legal document giving authority to the contractor to execute specific job in
specified condition under particular time
What is work at height? Work in any place from which a
person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury
Includes access and egress work at or below ground level
Does not include stairways or slips or trips on the level
Steps for safe working at height
Avoid work at height if you don’t have to go up there
DON’T! Prevent falls
use an existing place or means of access
Use the most suitable way of working
Select the most suitable equipment
Fall Protection and Fall Arrest Devices Safety Nets Airbags Safety Harness and lanyards Fall Arrester
LADDER Ladder is a structure access to a
platform., Types: General : 9mts Portable:5mt Extendable :15mt Monkey(Landing for every (6-9mts) Fixed ladder(min 40cm gap with vertical
object) Rope ladder(with aluminum rugs)
LADDER
ANTI SKIDS
Safe Procedure of LADDER ‘3 point contact’ -2 hands, 1 foot or
2 feet 1 hand when ascending or descending.
Ratio(1:4), safe angle-75˚(for supported) safe angle-45˚(for un-supported)
Safe Procedure of LADDER Distance b/w 2 rugs(25-35cm) Anti skids at bottom Last rung to be painted for wodden
ladder(rung thickness -28mm) Iron ladder should painted to
identify welding cracks(rung thickness-19mm)
SCAFFOLD MOVABLE PERMANENT HANGING WALL BASED
What Is A Scaffold? An elevated, temporary work platform
Two basic types: Supported scaffolds -- platforms
supported by rigid, load bearing members, such as poles, legs, frames, & outriggers
Suspended scaffolds -- platforms suspended by ropes or other non-rigid, overhead support
Scaffold? Scaffold means an temperorly
provided structure on or from which building workers perform work in connection with building or other construction work.
MODULAR SCAFFOLD
MOBILE SCAFFOLD
16
Install along open sides & ends
Front edge of platforms not more than 14 inches from the work, unless using guardrails and/or PFAS
Top rails - 38 to 45 inches tall
Mid rails halfway between top rail and platform
Toe boards at least 3-1/2 inches high
Guardrails
Work Safe Program
RAILING
Scaffold Support Examples
Good support Inadequate support – in danger of collapse?
Base plate
Mud sills
LOAD&HEIGHT OF SCAFFOLD Load is inversely proportional to the bay length Max height of scaffold is 4 timmes width of the scaffold Every 9 mt provide a landing
SAFETY HARNESSLANYARD:1.8mt

M.E.W.P (mobile elevated working platform)
Work Positioning
No access No railing

SCAFFOLD-TAG SYSTEM Tag system should be maintained
to know it’s fitness RED: danger not in use GREEN:ok ,all right YELLOW:work in progrees
Unsafe SCAFFOLD ERRECTION
NO Fall Protection
SAFE ANCHOR POINT
FULL BODY HARNESS
SAFETY DEVICES Full Body Harness Lanyard (regular or retractable) Shock Absorber Locking Snap Hooks (no single action) Lifeline (as needed) Anchorage
Must hold 5000 lbs.
Work at height includes: The use of Ladders, step-ladders, The use of Scaffolding, The use of Mobile Elevating Work
Platforms (MEWPs), The use of Scaffold towers; Roof work and access to roofs; Work in lift shafts; Rope access; Working near and access to Pits and
Excavations;
Target is zero accident “All accidents can be avoided”
In all circumstances, be careful, aware
and have a responsible behaviour.
Thank You
